The BBC should lose the license fee and be forced to operate like any other streaming service after the complete destruction of trust this week

Thats it really, the BBC lied to us, all of us.

They edited a Trump speech to make him look like he said something he did not.

They pushed one side of the transgender debate relentlessly, deliberately hiding negative stories on detransitioners, the US WPATH file and thousands of more cases

https://archive.ph/wWdMS

https://archive.ph/uiEKW

They have cancelled people for wrong-think at every opportunity, pushed drag queens over women, turned woman hours into mens hour, constantly attacked anyone who does not share their extreme liberal left wing views and kept them off the news cycle

They have utterly and completely lost all trust, they ARE biased they DON'T give balance in the news

Everyone thought it was a conspiracy, now we know it's actually true and we have PROOF

Today the BBC Director and News Director have both quit in absolute disgrace.

It is time the BBC was consigned to the dustbin because we are never getting back to the BBC I loved and trusted, the one that ran programmes to inform and entertain and educate, that BBC is long gone.

Replace it, completely.

A lot of the younger people I work with barely know what it is

Really??

My 20 year old son hardly ever watches live TV but loves R4’s Dead Ringers, Have I Got News For You, Just a Minute and I’m sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Can also be drawn into University Challenge even though it makes us feel a bit thick.

I have written complaints re news coverage bias and even considered not paying but when I realised the sources and schematic attacks of its real haters and enemies, I checked myself.

You may not, but the BBC may have decided in their editorial policy that they do not wish to deliberately exclude any identity. And what’s with the phrase “some things should not be included”? That’s a bit dehumanising.

They excluded women. Adult human females (to avoid doubt - i mean the 50% of the population )

@Puzzledandpissedoff What on earth are you looking at or listening to? Or are you so biased yourself you just want an echo chamber? I see little bias. I do see a few programmes that should have been checked more closely but they weren’t made by the BBC.

Generally I think journalists are not biased. It’s incredibly difficult to report from Gaza for example. Who really can verify anything? We can see destruction though - maybe pictures paint a thousand words? We also saw pictures of Nazi concentration camps and we all can see both sides which is driven by history, and that’s what reported. Most people want to see non judgemental reporting. I think that’s what we get.

Journalists can absolutely have a strong position.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/11/2025 17:54

Decent summery here if anyone's interested, and this time from a source which - while certainly not perfect - is a damned sight better than many:

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/11/2025 17:47

An echo chamber is the very last thing I want, @OhDear111; what I'd prefer is to see all sides of a story presented and the consumer left to make their own minds up, but if you honestly think that's what the BBC does I'd be here until Christmas if I was to try refuting it

Even I was surprised at this one though, and this from their sainted "Verify" section:

Oh my sweet summer child.

EdithStourton · 11/11/2025 17:38

@OhDear111 have you read the full dossier?

It provides evidence of ingrained bias.

It is allowed to portray differing points of view

Yes, and wouldn't it be nice if they did, instead of adopting a corporate rightthink and broadcasting mainly what suits their own narrative?

Balanced?? Don't make me laugh ...

OctaviaC74 · 11/11/2025 16:02

Yes 100% this debacle suits the Tories and the right wing and i'd bet they saw an error and then set about engineering a crisis.

It's not 'an error'.
It's literally pages of inconsistencies, bias and related cock-ups. The BBC managers were warned about many of them, but chose to put their fingers in their ears and shout LALALALA.

As I've said before, I'm politically pretty much in the middle. I left the LibDems in disgust over their adherence to the trans mantras. I think have a public broadcaster is a good thing.

But the BBC needs massive reform.

OctaviaC74 · 11/11/2025 16:56

How would you make Radio broadcasting a subs model?

Without the fee, the BBC wouldn't be able to produce/fund these programs and many others.

the right wing don't want the BBC simply because they don't want to be critiqued, see how Trump controls broadcasting in the US.

They would have to use adverts like other radio stations.

OctaviaC74 · 11/11/2025 16:56

MissMoneyFairy · 11/11/2025 16:30

They can go subscription, other streaming services cost half of the license fee

Or they simply just don't enjoy eastenders, repeats and edited/fake news 🤷‍♂️

Agree. There is a move away from the BBC as you go to younger age groups. It’s more streaming and other content.

MissMoneyFairy · 11/11/2025 16:30

OctaviaC74 · 11/11/2025 16:00

Or Strictly, Traitors, Attenborough, numerous crime dramas, kids TV and of course the licence fee funds radio and partly the world service.

OhDear111 · 11/11/2025 16:18

Is there a drag queen reading the news then? How many do I see? One on Strictly. None elsewhere - but sex changers on uni challenge occasionally. So what? It’s a very very minuscule thing at the bbc. Did other broadcasters fully engage with your views? What did they do? As for left wing? Really? Farage supporters are never off radio 5. There are no Liberal voices.

Floisme · 11/11/2025 16:09

I think the BBC have two choices:

  1. Acknowledge they’ve fucked up on a number of issues and show a bit of humility and willingness to sort out this debacle themselves.
  2. Double down and adopt a siege mentality.

I’m still hoping they will choose the first.

StandFirm · 11/11/2025 16:09

ParmaVioletTea · 10/11/2025 19:36

This.

If you've spent any considerable time in a country without a public service broadcaster (Germany, USA, for example) you'll know how much of a priceless jewel the BBC is.

Yes, it needs reform, but then Boris Johnson shouldn't have tried to stack the board and any appointment over which he had influence.

Do you really really want the UK (and UK politics) to be run by Donald Trump and his cronies?? Really??????

Germany? How about ARD and ZDF? (+ Arte)
You are right about the US and it's been a disaster.

Floisme · 11/11/2025 16:04

If the situation suits the right then all I can say is the BBC have played right into their hands.

OctaviaC74 · 11/11/2025 16:02

OhDear111 · 11/11/2025 15:41

Laura Kuenssberg dished it up to the Tories! Right wing and isn’t. I can barely believe the rubbish on here! Of course it offends in equal measure. Of course left and right csn both be offended. That probably means it’s not biased. It is allowed to portray differing points of view.

I also think the big issue is too complex management structures and not owning up. The Tory board was put there to destroy it! That’s what some journalists are trying to tell us. That’s the dangerous position we are in and the news journalists know it. Why did Emily Maitless really leave? The politicians have interfered with it so it fails.

It's the fallacy of arguing to moderation; the idea that if two sides disagree, the correct answer must be somewhere in the middle. But as the classic counterpoint goes: if Alan says the sky is yellow and Bill says the sky is blue, it does not follow that the sky must be green.
