How ridiculous.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 08/11/2025 16:19

I don’t think a National Emergency will be called OP.
We are used to hearing about knife deaths but it used to be more related to gang and drug violence.
Most people think it goes with the territory so you know.
It does appear that there has been a spate of totally innocent people randomly being stabbed and or killed by knife.
The three last year around I think Birmingham, the man in the bank, the dog walker, the people on the train, and now this lass in Birmingham.
I think that is what is causing alarm.
Not government figures claiming knife crime is going down.
Just ordinary people going about their life being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Pedallleur · 08/11/2025 12:38

There is a common denominator in all this - men! maybe men/boys are the National Emergency. just an observation.

I haven’t RTFT, in fact still on page 1. I totally agree with you. Not sure how we solve the problem though.

We have enough issues with VAWG in general without accepting hundreds of thousands of undocumented young males from countries who think women are second class citizens.

Not to mention m t m violence with knives.

Or even just senseless knife violence like we saw on the Cambridge train.

What can we do. Baby steps. Stop undocumented migrants being allowed into the country, ban the sale of knives over a certain size? Provide youth clubs again so young people have something to do, release all low level crime women from prison to make room for the raping and or stabbing men? What else?

I doubt many even report crimes now as nothing will be done, especially if its a gang related incident so i dont believe the stats...a lot of towns and cities in the uk really need curfews or some sort of martial law, its awful compared to civilised countries such as poland, lithuania, latvia...you dont see any of this sort of behaviour.

Yes, yes, good luck with all this.

And you know this how?
But we will start with your town and impose a curfew tonight. Are you ok with that? Are you saying the UK is uncivilised compared to those former Eastern Bloc countries and what do you base this comparison on?

I’d rather rely on statistical data than the memory of someone who clearly has an agenda.

I don't know what agenda you think I have and I'd far rather rely on statistics too, I'm a very data rational person.

But in between that post and now I've both had a lovely snooze and researched victim statistics and although I've found anecdotal references to an increase in stranger- victim stabbings, the hard data isn't collected when it should be and isn't available that I or an AI search can find.

Another Stabbing, its daily now.

Country's been allowed to get out of hand.
Should Starmer address it?

What would this achieve?

A day or two dosent go past without hearing about a stabbing.

You hear about stabbings in schools, maybe only occasionally but at one time it would have been unheard of for a pupil or teacher to be stabbed in school.

I'd like to know when, seeing as my uncle was stabbed in school in 1953.

barskits · 08/11/2025 16:03

Stabbings and other violent crimes happen every day. They always have done. What's happening now is that they are receiving much greater publicity - quite often from media sources with a political agenda.

You hear alot more now though.

OP are you just deliberately ignoring people telling you the literal statistics that knife crime is down?

It's got worse.

I’m not being goady op but can you link your statistics for this please

Bumblebee72 · 08/11/2025 15:58

There is generally an inverse correlation between the risk of something happening and the likelihood it makes the national news. When things are in the news it normally a sign that they are rare. E.g. people die in car crashes everyday, they would barely make the local news in passing. If someone was to die in a freak accident in a hot air balloon hitting Nelsons Column. It would be national news. Its human nature but does create incorrect views of risk for people.

You hear alot more now though.

And you've explained it yourself. We have far more information sources, immediately at our fingertips than even 5 years ago.

Crime rates, especially violent crime, have fallen. That’s certain, and evidenced.

The emergency faces us in future, with the awful risk of the extreme right getting into power. Let that not happen.

Let's worry about what we're facing right now and focus on getting rid of Labour.

How is the number of people being treated in hospital for knife wounds being “tweaked”?

I remember during Covid how any government statistic that at first sight might have apparently showed that vaccines didn't work or were killing people en masse, or that Covid was less of a problem than previously thought, was hugely bigged up by the anti-lockdown agitators - "Look, the government admits it, it's right here, wake up sheeple!".

And then someone would patiently explain the fallacy that they had fallen into (e.g., yes, more people who died from Covid after vaccines came out were vaccinated than not, just as more people who die in car crashes are wearing seat belts than not, because of base rates), and they would either harrumph, or ignore you, or double down - it didn't really matter, they declared that they had either won, or "could of" won, anyway.

Meanwhile, any government statistic that showed that Covid was actually a big problem was dismissed as entirely fabricated, just more lies and machinations by Bill Gates/the WEF/George Soros as part of the New World Order. Heads I win, tails you lose. There is no point in arguing with these people because they are not interested in facts. Everything is part of the conspiracy, even us having this discussion here ("The 77th Brigade are on form today, I see, hur hur hur").

Either these people are extremely hard of thinking, or they are bots designed to wear rational argument down by just repeating bollocks until sane people give up.

Gosh no. He’ll be making unsuccessful attempts to microchip the entire population. He is the emergency.

That's just silly.

Bethany83 · 08/11/2025 15:50

Stabbings have been daily in London for many years now. Many not reported but its a fact. It's just horrendous.

StrongLikeMamma · 08/11/2025 15:50

Why do you think the press are suddenly reporting stabbing? Why don’t you think about who is manipulating you?

HRTQueen · 08/11/2025 15:46

Crinkle77 · 08/11/2025 15:41

Yes this! As I said in my previous post. Even official statistics need to be treated with caution because the way crimes are categorised, recorded and reported can all have an influence. It's worrying that people are so willing to trust the statistics without applying a little critical thinking.

Edited

Absolutely

it’s shocking the police responses now (in London) and how stretched they are along with prisons/probation and other services who are working alongside them

I have no agenda to support right wing parties but I do want honesty and I woudl be extremely surprised if you asked 100 people working in these areas would support the positive slant on crime statistics

I don’t disagree that all facts require critical
thinking, but IMO there are far more people failing to apply critical thinking to poorly written sensationalised “news” and posts on social media (often written for the purpose of clickbait and following agendas of disruption and disinformation and not objective reporting with fully researched content).

Ok, so not quite every day but more than every other day in 2023 there was a stabbing

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce7r36rrezjo

in 2024 knife crime fell by 6%

although a staggering 3000plus “knife crimes” a year in Birmingham

Birmingham records 3,215 knife crimes yearly, with a VCR of 12.9 per 1,000. Areas like Handsworth (VCR 17.6) and Aston (VCR 16.9) remain persistent trouble spots.
The city's PCR of 26.8 includes growing knife-enabled burglaries. Police note increasing incidents near transport hubs during rush hours.

but this is not new

PCSO holds a zombie knife

West Midlands Police force area has highest knife crime rate

The West Midlands area saw 180 crimes in 2023, compared to 165 for the Met Police, figures show.
