Oh give over.
So its lies, is it?
Knife crime isn't a problem, its not happening, right ok.

Actually on reflection. I read of fewer stabbings but shootings are increasing. I’m not sure where you live OP, but in my city knife and gun crime dominate our local news headlines. Statistics may reveal fewer crimes but for some of us in high crime areas, it doesn’t appear that way.

HRTQueen · 08/11/2025 13:22

There needs to be more police presence, there needs to be more positive involvement with teens (there is no where for them to go), there needs to be more involvement with young people who are not engaging in education/have mh issues/SEND

so much is breaking down as public services have consistently have their funds reduced

soddingspiderseason · 08/11/2025 13:21

Oh for goodness sake.

CranfordScones · 08/11/2025 13:21

Complete alarmist nonsense. Look at the trendlines, not the headlines.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/record-number-of-knives-taken-off-streets-as-knife-murders-plummet

...knife crime overall has fallen for the first time in 4 years, dropping by 5%. The latest admissions data for NHS hospitals in England and Wales also show a 10% fall in admissions for knife assaults.

Record number of knives taken off streets as knife murders plummet

An unprecedented number of deadly knives have been taken off the streets as knife murders plummet after the government’s first year in office.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/11/2025 13:21

Which time was this, OP? When you never heard about stabbing. Razors were the weapon of choice for gangs of thugs when I was a kiddie in the 60s. My own brother stabbed another teenager when he was 14. Our son went to a good, independent school. When he was in year 5, a very disturbed young boy had to be disarmed by staff when he showed classmates a kitchen knife in his sports bag (our son is now 22).
That time has never existed.
Why are you so determined to ignore the stats? Are you not pleased that knife crime is falling?

Redpeach · 08/11/2025 13:20

1600 deaths on uk roads a year, perhaps thats more of an emergency

EsmaCannonball · 08/11/2025 13:19

Gang members and criminals have street doctors; they don't go to hospital unless it's absolutely critical or a third party has called the emergency services. Also, people don't bother calling the police any more, even for serious crime. I know people, all young men, who've been mugged at knifepoint and who think the idea of even calling the police is a complete joke. The man who thinks he may have been stabbed by the Huntingdon attacker back in September said the police dropped the investigation after two days and he was informed by text. Did they even turn up to that barbershop when he was waving a great big knife around?

I know people who have burgled, mugged, had their cars stolen, their businesses raided, and they just get a crime number, even when they can provide the police with CCTV footage. It feels like we are living in some kind of frontier town with no law enforcement and people just have to fend for themselves.

19 year old Lily Whitehouse was found murdered on the streets in Birmingham on Wednesday. 41 year Mohammed Azim has been charged with her murder. Apparently he was known to her. The age disparity makes me question exactly how he was known to her.

I imagine Labour will be feeling a personal state of emergency as the Red Wall they took for granted is going Reform and their studenty-metropolitan back-up plan is turning to Green-Red-Green parties. All that sucking up to a lunatic fringe at the expense of their heartland and they can't even rely on that vote any more. Great, we're going to be landed with Nigel Farage in charge of the NHS.

Whatwerewetalkingabout · 08/11/2025 13:18

Is this Reform HQ cosplaying at a a mumsnetter? Don't be so fucking ridiculous. 😅

Well yes it would be a lie to say knife crime has increased

A day or two dosent go past without hearing about a stabbing.

You hear about stabbings in schools, maybe only occasionally but at one time it would have been unheard of for a pupil or teacher to be stabbed in school.

TheDreamCrusher · 08/11/2025 13:16

No need to panic, look at the falling stats.

Knife crime is down from fcking unacceptable levels of violence to slightly less fcking unacceptable levels of violence.

Mt563 · 08/11/2025 13:08

Hearing is different to fact. Just because papers publish more stories on stabbings because they get clicks and then social media amplifies this, doesn't mean there's been an actual increase

Randomesttnought · 08/11/2025 13:15

I just found this. I hope someone is looking at the categories of data.

It seems from news that dissociated knife crime is up. It feels that way to me too.

It could just be wrong perception for all the reasons others have said but without the data I do think it’s a bit quite to say ‘nope - no problem here!’

To think a National Emergency should be called by Starmer?
Alpacajigsaw · 08/11/2025 13:13

School stabbings are not new. I remember one where a girl was murdered by another girl in Glasgow around 35 years ago

PeonyPatch · 08/11/2025 13:12

I don’t think it’s an emergency. Sadly stabbing a do occur a lot. It might be reported more in mainstream news.

Does this not suggest that these crimes are being reported in the media more rather than actually happening more. Particularly as others have shown stats to suggest knife crime hasn’t increased?

Flipthrfhxsd · 08/11/2025 13:11

Well I don’t know how much I can add

but I do know that last week my husband who works late in a town centre , saw someone being stabbed, then everyone run off from a short distance.

nothing has been reported in the local paper or (shockingly lol) on the local facebook, and the police haven’t rang/ called or dropped in at his work for a statement, even though they had details and cctv passed on.

it make me wonder how much is reported/ followed up on

Randomesttnought · 08/11/2025 13:07

Interesting the overall knife stats have fallen. This is why data is so important.

Is this indicating what is going on though? Most knife crime is historically gang related I thought?

The stuff we are seeing online is people minding their own business getting stabbed by randomers. That is different to gang crime.

Is there an uptick in that? Has gang crime fallen that much? Or was this always happening but not reported?

I have no idea but the answers are important. It is starting to feel risky outside and I am avoiding people I would previously engaged with.

But knives became or have become more freely available. look at the Southport killer story. Its become a 'thing' if you read the news that boys are carrying knives but I remember as a student in Mcr in the 80s of machete wielding villains taking students to cash points to steal from them. that was a city centre and was prob replicated in all the big cities. What about guns? They seem to be available to those who seek them and drug use, should that not be a National Emergency? Bet there are more drug users in your community than knife carriers

You've just said it. "A day or 2 doesn't go past without hearing about a stabbing", "at one time it would've been unheard of"...
Ask yourself why all of a sudden "we hear about it". What agenda do you think the "storytellers" are pushing?

Another Stabbing, its daily now.

Country's been allowed to get out of hand.
Should Starmer address it?

What would a National Emergency entail, regarding knife crime?

What practical steps would you advise?

Jesus. This is the huge flaw in a system
of representative democracy.
