What, the whole situation?

I’m begging you @JeffTheSquirrel start your own thread - I need you highlighted and filtered!

It would appear so.

But who thinks like that? If you can longer attend an event that someone else has kindly covered the cost of, it's ridiculous to think that you're entitled to be given the cash equivalent to do something else.

I'm reminded of a thread not so long ago where someone had offered to take a friend on holiday and they had asked for the money instead!

Edited

That's so cheeky! I agree, and by gift I meant maybe for Birthday or Christmas? It's such a very peculiar situation.

I always thought CF was "cunt face".

OMG.....much prefer this version 😆

I'm thinking that she took it to be a gift for the DD? The girl couldn't go, so she wants the money instead?

Oh phew the thread wasn’t deleted - I save CF situations like this to discuss/debate at length with DP, it’s like moral philosophy but better.

Yes I do really feel for X. Whenever I’ve even slightly bashed my shin I act like a wounded puppy, but to actually fracture the bone is bloody horrific. I had already thought about buying her some merch & taking it round, before DD suggested it. I think we’ll still do it, but through gritted teeth as we’ll have to go past CF.

Ask her for money for the merch.... I dare you!

JeffTheSquirrel · 07/11/2025 16:48

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 07/11/2025 15:58

Given the injury the CF’sDD is suffering, I am slightly more understanding. I imagine people- family- have been falling over themselves with kindness- get well soon cards, presents to stop her being bored… she may have been in the mindset ‘poor dd, everyone needs to spoil her to make up for her awful injury!’.

Nutty obviously. But I can see where her brain may have short circuited.

Thread is full

Opl just needed to reply

"I was happy to treat x to the ticket to join us at x place, but there is no cash alternative on offer "

Insert laughing emoji

Yes this is good! I hope OP sees this and can emphasise further if needed, that ‘‘there never was a promise that if X couldn’t make it she’d receive a cash equivalent”.

Honestly the entitlement score is off the chart with this one and I don’t think any other school moms disagreement will ever top this. If she complains about OP to the others, surely they’ll think she’s a bit nutty also.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/11/2025 16:12

I’ve just checked for an update, so thanks @JeffTheSquirrel for that.

I haven’t been whiling away the hours much recently on Mumsnet, what’s the chicken fucker joke about please? I appear to have missed some antics…

Best thread since the Dyson hair dryer saga!

I have nothing to update! If I get any response I could possibly start a new thread, but not warranted at the moment. I’ve never met the mum of new invitee so who knows if there is drama there. I very much doubt it though, sorry to disappoint. My DD mentioned this morning about buying some merch from the show and taking it round to X, so there’s obviously no falling out there.

Also genuinely couldn’t believe the thread filled up. We all love a CF, clearly.

And an OP who updates said CF thread.
They are rarer than you might think!

HappyHunting101 · 07/11/2025 15:20

Is she thinking you should all have cancelled and not gone at all, just because her dd can't go? Just with her saying about "making amends" and "going back on a promise"?

Like you promised to take her so you should be cancelling and all going later when her dd is able?

I don't agree with that line of thinking btw. I think she's absolutely crazy, but just trying to understand her weird perspective.
