My work colleague is bonkers, isn’t she!?

My long term and close colleague told me today she sometimes makes a 40 minute round trip home on lunch to avoid having to ‘do the deed’ using the only loo in our office. Is this not the most ridiculous thing ever 😂

Edited to say I’m not the P troll before anyone says haha

I totally get it, I would come home too as it's only a 10 minute drive in the middle of the day. I used to regularly hold it all day (meaning an 8 hr shift) as it would come on just as i was starting work. I would feel pretty rotten by the time I got home. In a bit more of a routine now thankfully.

Just to add i once had a weekend away with a new bf and the loo was separate to the bathroom after 3cdays I was ready to explode! Couldn't get home quick enough 😓

ThatCyanCat · 06/11/2025 20:37

I once worked somewhere where most toilets were in the usual place but there was one unisex cubicle tucked away... and my office was right next to it (it wasn't my personal toilet). It was where everyone went to shit. I do honestly think it was because it was the most secluded toilet rather than because they all hated me...

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 06/11/2025 20:37

I work in a school.
Staff toilet is in the middle of busy staffroom. Does feel a little exposed.
No problem with number ones in there, but if I ever need a number 2 at work I prefer to go into the kids toilets. 😅

Cucy · 06/11/2025 20:35

YABU

We have 1 toilet for at least 20 staff and 95% of us can only go during set breaks.
Theres always at least 2 people waiting in the queue during the breaks.

When I had surgery i needed to spend a long time on the toilet and then needed to use a bottle to wash etc and there’s no way I could have done all that with multiple people waiting outside.

She may have something that causes her to need to take her time and so I can completely see why she’d choose to do it at home.

I got confused for a bit, going home to avoid “doing the deed”.

Was beginning to wonder what goes on in your place at lunchtime. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, me too!

Supergirl1958 · 06/11/2025 20:28

Sorry but I’m with your colleague! Luckily my bowel habits mean that I use the loo before/after work and rarely need it during! I once had to mad dash to the loo but had eaten something dodgy!!

Bunnycat101 · 06/11/2025 20:26

I’m fascinated by this as toilets are surely for using. I don’t understand why people are so squeamish about the fact.

I am a bit baffled about how you actually train yourself to have a poo at a certain time or hold one in without feeling very uncomfortable. One of my children doesn’t like the school toilets and often holds it until home but you can see her belly is really bloated when she does it and she complains of her tummy hurting. I really don’t think it is healthy to be ignoring the urge to go and we’ve been trying hard to get her to use the loo at school.

Are you drunk, OP?

I’m not sure who think is going to laugh with you on this thread. Before my grandparents achieved custody of me, my father would absolutely scream at me for taking too long in the loo. This made it 100 times worse and I’ve dealt with constipation and other bathroom issues on and off for my entire life as a result. “BUT OMG IT’S SO HILARIOUS AND SO BONKERS ADULT PEOPLE HAVE TOILETING ISSUES.” OP, you sound a real gem of empathy. Grow the fuck up.

You sound like you need to unclench. Literally 😂💩

Hahaha it absolutely isn’t the same as being scared of flying. Hahaha

I think you'll find phobias and physical reactions to things are the same regardless of the "thing" and how YOU feel about it.

I have zero issues flying. I don't think people who do are "bonkers". I much prefer not to poo at work, and only if it's an absolute emergency would I do it. It's not "bonkers" to physically need to be comfortable to literally relax your bowels.

It is bonkers to think you're the authority on sanity.

MidnightMusing5 · 06/11/2025 20:24

I’ve heard if you’re menopausal it can make the smell horrendous. Maybe that’s why she does it?

Starlin · 06/11/2025 20:22

Nope. Cannot poop at work or friends houses when I stay there. I've done several weekends away where I've not pooped for 3-4 days and been in significant discomfort. I just couldn't... Even if i wanted to.

At home? Absolute clockwork. First thing in the morning.

BookSmith · 06/11/2025 20:18

I’d never poo at work in a million years. I know some people have problems and can’t help it, but I’m not one of them. In fact, my bowels are so well-trained, I simply would never need to take a shit at work or when I’m out.

MidnightMeltdown · 06/11/2025 20:17

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/11/2025 17:28

She should have trained herself? She’s not a Labrador !!

If a dog can wait for an appropriate time to eliminate then surely a human can? Shitting in the work toilets should be for emergencies only.

LalaSarah · 06/11/2025 20:16

AlexisP90 · 06/11/2025 18:32

Bit harsh to use the words bonkers and ridiculous. Would you use those words for people afraid of flying so they never go abroad?

Its pretty much the same thing.

I am one of those people. Well, not too extreme these days but I generally wouldnt poo at work unless I absolutely have to. Sort of trained myself to go first thing in the morning.

I remember I used to go home from a night out if I needed a poo - was about a 15 minute walk home from town. Quick do my business and back out for the night!

Hahaha it absolutely isn’t the same as being scared of flying. Hahaha

I’ve never understood why people wait until they get to work to have a shit! Why not just go before work like most people do?! Or at least wait until you get home. Unless you’ve got diarrhoea you shouldn’t need to go that urgently. Maybe she needs to look at her diet.

Greygirl2019 · 06/11/2025 20:11

I prefer being in the privacy of my own home, but have a bowel disorder, so have no choice 😂 I envy people who can pick and choose when they go!

TroysMammy · 06/11/2025 20:09

I'm first in and start work half an hour before my colleagues. If I have to go then I use the customer toilet instead of the staff one just in case of lingering smells. I have trained myself to go first thing in the morning when I get up and my cat races into the bathroom to watch me take my morning dump.

Hi sis! 😁

Koolandorthegang · 06/11/2025 16:43

I know loads of people that won’t poo anywhere other than in their own home.

That's me!

NoodleHorses · 06/11/2025 20:03

Until recently, I had a colleague who did the same thing. She drove 20 minutes back home for lunch, used the facilities, grabbed a quick lunch, then drove back to the office.
She said she had ‘shy bladder syndrome’. I had to look that up.
Pretty sure she still does it but we don’t work together any longer.

mjf981 · 06/11/2025 20:01

My partner is like this.
It drives me mad. We can go out for brunch and then have plans for a walk, shopping etc....but if he needs to 'go' then we have to go home first and then back out again. He just hates using the public bathrooms for #2s. And can't articulate why.
It has caused some very tense moments!

JohnTheRevelator · 06/11/2025 20:01

When you said 'do the deed',at first I thought you were talking about having sex!

Pebbles16 · 06/11/2025 19:56

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/11/2025 17:47

I’ve got a bucket tonne of bowel missing. When my body says “go for a shit now!”, it doesn’t matter where I am, I’m in the nearest toilet.

Me too. These people who can "train themselves". Complete anathema to me

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/11/2025 17:28

It's not that difficult. Most south Asians are trained as kids to poo in the morning before their shower. Once you have established that habit it's brilliant. You are never caught out during the day when it is not convenient and dont need to use dirty public toilets.
