Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

I have to say, I don't know anyone on them who says they're 'putting in the work'. The whole point is that they make it easy. For many people weight loss is incredibly hard, maintaining it even harder. Yes of course you might put the weight back on when you come off, but 1) you don't have to come off, and 2) the same is true of any diet. I'm 44 and I couldn't even count how many times I've worked really, really hard to lose weight in my life... only for it to go back on as soon as I stop obsessing over food.

AmythestBangle · 06/11/2025 16:19

"Weight loss jabs are fairly new".

The drugs now being called "weight loss drugs" aren't new, they have just been given a new condition they can be prescribed for.

"Daily calorie deficit will be better for your health".

That's literally how they work.

I came off it 13 months and 11 days ago, to be precise. Currently 2lbs lighter than when I took my last dose.

AmythestBangle · 06/11/2025 16:16

I have not really "put in the work" and I have lost 2.5 stone on MJ, without much effort at all. In my case it does prevent me from wanting certain foods at all, and pretty much stops me thinking about food (I never really had the "food noise" but on MJ I often forget to eat at all, and of course feel full much sooner). So yes, it has made weight loss easier even without trying. I wouldn't call it a "cheat" as that sounds to pejorative, but it's a tool to make something very difficult, much much easier.

And so what, what's wrong with that? I'm not defensive about it. I fully own it. We use hundreds of things every day to make hard things easier. Why should weight loss be the only thing that people won't admit has been made easier? Should we be using slide rules because calculators make arithmetic too easy? Do we judge people who get grocery deliveries because they haven't "put in the work" to get their shopping? I am perfectly happy to make my life easier, I'm not going to pretend MJ has not done that. If someone was to say to me "you haven't put in the work" I'd say, no, I haven't, that's the magic of MJ, even a lazy arse like me can lose weight, isn't it great!

Pricelessadvice · 06/11/2025 16:16

Weight loss jabs must take over a lot of the work because many people who have tried to diet multiple times and failed have found they can on the jabs. I know several people like this and they all admit that it almost completely removes the food noise and hunger.

vitalityvix · 06/11/2025 16:14

I’ve never been on them, but know tonnes of people who have, including DH. For all of them, it removed the food noise. For most people, that’s the biggest barrier to weight loss.

However, I also know lots of them struggled with side effects. My DH was only on them for 4 weeks before coming off because he was absolutely miserable. Nausea, headaches, tiredness etc. It also made him pretty anti-social.

My point is they aren’t a miracle cure. There are still issues to overcome; they’re just different ones.

You honestly do have to put in work with the weight loss jabs tbh 🥺, its no miracle cure

This is so true . I am on them and still snacking on sweet stuff - its a comfort/habit thing 4 me.

Probably. Just as I did when I lost it the hard way … not once either, many times. I’ve weighed everything between 9 and a half and seventeen and a half stone as an adult. I’ve lost, gained, lost more, gained more, many many times.

Why? Because it’s only an achievement if you do it the ‘hard’ way? Because fat people should be punished for having got fat in the first place?

That’s exactly what it is and that’s why people do get eye rolly about these sorts of threads.

You are a fatty and therefore in the process of not being a fatty should feel maximum discomfort. If not, you should be a fatty forever!

DingDongJingle · 06/11/2025 16:11

GummyBearette · 06/11/2025 16:08

I think what’s interesting is that we equate what you’re calling ‘hard work’ - ie exerting willpower over cravings - with good, virtuous values, and that by doing it via medication as therefore not virtuous, good or worthy.

I can see why you might think it’s easier on the weight loss jabs (although there can be tricky side effects that make it not a walk in the park) and so roll your eyes a bit at the comments, I do too, but what’s the actual point to me is, why does it matter to us now? Why do we think the perceived ‘hard way’ makes us somehow more worthy?

Exactly this. And why is ‘having willpower’ considered a virtue more worthy than any others?

HankyP · 06/11/2025 16:10

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:43

But it suppresses your appetite which 99% of the issue…

Im not claiming you can stuff your face and still lose weight but it stops the food cravings

That isn't totally true OP. I realised pretty quickly when trying them they only suppress a bit for some people and most certainly do not stop emotional eating, the kind where you eat even when not hungry (yes that's me) sadly.

Misla · 06/11/2025 16:09

DarkPassenger1 · 06/11/2025 16:02

As someone on them, it's utter nonsense anyway lol. I did literally NOTHING other than jab myself weekly and three stone melted away in less than four months. I would never insult the hard work of people who lose weight the usual way by pretending my way was anything other than a doddle!

Same for DH. He has had to put no effort at all in to losing many kilos on Mounjaro.

OP, I agree with you! The whole point of WLI is that they don't require the usual effort.

Weight loss jabs are fairly new.. I wonder what long term effects they have over time. (Like people who say the covid jabs cause death ect..)
Also, what happens when you have to come off them, you’ll feel ravenous again and pile the weight back on. It won’t be a long term fix. Daily calorie deficit will be better for your health.

The Covid jabs were far newer than WLI at the point of use for each.

Also, a daily calorie defect is exactly how you lose weight on WLI

One, you don't have to come off them. Two, on a population level most people who were previously obese and lose weight through diet will put the weight back on.

Most people don’t feel ravenous. Fat people aren’t devouring food all the time. In fact, I think a lot of very overweight people become so because they restrict food or try to then succumb and massively overeat. That’s what I did most of last year. Kept starting diets then bingeing and ultimately ended up gaining weight.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 06/11/2025 15:59

It’s a hell if a lot easier to eat less when they’re is no food noise. I’ve lost over a stone and am pretty much maintaining now and I never think about food. Zero will power required so I think you’re right to feel very proud of yourself OP.

But @Plind, do you not see that’s 99% of YOUR issue. YOURS. Not everyone else’s.
Everyone’s on their own journey. You’re not a WL hero or working harder than people using WLIs, sorry to inform you. No point getting annoyed with people using them.

Scottishskifun · 06/11/2025 15:55

I think your view is too simplistic OP and doesn't recognise that work absolutely has to done even with WL jabs. It might not be in the initial stages for losing weight but it has to be done somewhere or in the maintenance stage otherwise it all just piles back on.

Part of the point of the jabs is to switch off the food noise in order to give time and space to address it which is needed alongside.

I don't take WL jabs BTW also lost 3 stone "the original way" won't call it the harder as all lifestyle and weight loss ways are hard just in different ways!
I certainly don't fancy the side effects that comes with WL jabs!

DiscoBob · 06/11/2025 15:55

Just try them and see if it helps. It's just medicine. Use it or don't but there's no point getting judgemental about what other people say or do or how easy they find it to lose weight.

ForFunnyOliveEagle · 06/11/2025 15:55

The mechanism by which you lose weight with WLI is by a daily calorie deficit.

Do it naturally then…
