Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

Personally I'd take natural weight loss over the expense, side effects and potential longer term health risks of jabs all day long. It's by far the easier option if you can do it imo. Which luckily, like you, I could.
I genuinely don't get all this bickering and my weight loss 'journey' was harder than yours competitive nonsense. Weight loss is personal. What other people are doing has no impact on your weight or life, and vice versa.
I think people would do a lot better to concentrate on their own bodies and choices and stop having conversations about weight loss that annoy them.

ginislife · 07/11/2025 10:46

@MinnilisciousI'm with you. I lost 20lbs with barely no effort on MJ. I was within 3lbs of target when the price went up. I’m eating no differently now without it yet the 3lbs won’t go. There’s something in MJ that melts fat 😂😂

So people taking prescribed medication to lower their weight, improve their diabetes, cancer, heart risk and ease pressure on joints - cheating and open for judgement and criticism for not trying hard enough

Having general anaesthetic for a purely cosmetic procedure with no health benefits whatsoever- totally fine.

Love that for you.

lol, right?

Taking a medication prescribed for obesity? NO WAY

Putting yourself at risk (no doubt in turkey) and risking your children growing up without a mum? Fine

Crikeyalmighty · 07/11/2025 10:31

I do think each to their own having used them for 6 weeks and then lost reasonably well without - I’m not convinced myself That being suppressed to the level of eating like a toddler is very good for you in the long term in the cases of those people who do eat like this because of suppression - although I appreciate it will help with any ‘weigh related’ health issues . in my case as I never got above 2.5 that wasn’t the case. I think it’s more about changing your habits and ideally finding the level that works ‘for you’ - yes it’s great for weight loss to think ‘I can’t eat much’ but can you sustain that long term? Unless you plan on taking forever more of course. In my case mounjaro gave me a very good kick start , as although I could have probably eaten around the same if a little less , spending so much focussed me and I changed to Greek yoghurt and berries or ham and hard boiled eggs for breakfast, soup and a banana or a John west fish lunch grabber type thing at lunch and a slightly smaller portion of something home made and protein based at night, chicken stroganoff with green beans and cauliflower rice etc

before I would have had a ham and cheese toastie for breakfast, or a croissant and some toast, sandwich plus a banana and maybe crisps at lunch and a bigger dinner of the same with ‘proper rice’ ( and lots of it)

I also massively upped water, green tea and only drink americanos with oat milk once a day - and I don’t snack at all. No cakes, no biscuits, no crisps

I have lost weight, haven’t lost muscle or hair - and I’m 63 - I had convinced myself I couldn’t lose weight and was probably only eating around 1600 to 1800 cals a day - sadly I needed to go lower, quite a bit lower and it was about finding out what I could eat to regularly keep me around 1200 to 1400 cals a day( maybe 1800 at weekend to allow for some wine )

I'm afraid to say I do agree with you. Everyone always says it stops the food noise. On the rare day when I don't think about food all day long, I find it very easy not to overeat. If I felt that way daily, I'd find it much easier to say no to biscuits, chocolates and second helpings. I think it's great that they exist, and I'm happy for people who are losing weight on them, but let's not beat around the bush, it's removing the most difficult element of weight loss. I'm only slightly overweight, so cannot qualify for them but my weight has been a constant battle for my entire life. I'd love to be able to use weight loss injections and shut out the constant desire for food.

Same. I weigh and log all of my food. Exercise 5x per week (yoga, Pilates, HIIT, 2x weight training). I’m fighting menopausal weight gain and I am always hungry and always thinking about food. I’ve tried Juniper and another site, but I don’t qualify.

Ah but it does affect them… it means they lose the perceived competitive advantage that they’ve had over fat people for all these years, and reduces their opportunities to feel smug and superior!

Yep!

This isn't the reason for all the nonsense around them, but it's the reason for some of it. Happened to me just a few posts ago, with someone grandly assuring me I couldn't possibly be on them for life. No reason was offered, obviously, but then it subsequently became clear that it was simply her not wanting it to be possible.

But the best way to deal with this sort of thing is to laugh at it.

Here for the intrigue of a "mummy makeover" ...
perhaps you should do the work yourself OP, fairly sure you can paint your own nails/ cut your own hair/ make your own clothes.
You should really do it the "proper" way so you can remain on your high horse.

Oh @Dissappearedupmyownarsethrough losing all the weight on MJ I have constantly counted calories, watched what I eat and exercised! For the reason I posted above. If you don’t do those things then what is the point - it’s a tool to help you improve your health and for me that is gaining an understanding of nutrition and improving my fitness too.

All I know is I’ve overheard obese mums at school discussing using them and now they’re actually losing shed loads of weight very rapidly. Same for celebs like Gemma Collins who has never ever been able to lose weight ‘naturally’. They must be an easy fix in that sense, the weight seems to fly off everyone in no time at all.

For some. Not for me. I have chosen a sustainable level. For the first 3 ish stone I lost around 2lb a week, occasionally more. Now I am losing around 0.5-1lb a week and have been at that rate for months now. Losing the first 4 stone wasn’t even noticeable to others so when they did see it of course they tho it hit it had been fast, but I had actually been working at it for bloody ages

OrlandointheWilderness · 07/11/2025 10:02

I’ve lost 9 stone on MJ. I’m 41, I’ve struggled my entire life with it. Lost 6 stone through lockdown and put it back on. The last year I’ve constantly been thinking about food on MJ - but in a completely different way. I’m training for ultra marathons and running 5 times a week - I have to plan food, think about fuelling constantly. What I’m eating day to day, what calorie requirements I have today and the quality of those calories.
but yes - it made losing the weight a fuck ton easier FOR ME. That’s sort of the point! Financially it isn’t cheap, but then the regular takeaways and wine/shit food I was wasting money on wasn’t either.
I’ve done it the hard way for decades. I’ll take an easier route happily!

outofofficeagain · 07/11/2025 10:01

Genuinely what are you sick of? You lost weight and it was a struggle? You would take WLI if they weren’t so expensive?

You say you don’t have an issue with them but clearly you want some special badge to separate yourself from the ‘cheaters’

very defensive comments imo

Right exactly. Isn’t it great that the percentage of the population who have always been unable to lose weight, are now succeeding? :)

You honestly do have to put in work with the weight loss jabs tbh 🥺, its no miracle cure

That's nonsense.

Friend of mine is on them. At dinner she ate one spoon of rice and ate the falafel out of the middle of her wrap and left the rest. I polished all of mine off and could have eaten more.

Before the jabs she would have eaten the lot and got dessert. The jabs do the work for you to the extent she couldnt eat half of what was on her plate.

But that’s nonsense, and just comes across as bitter. You can’t just eat whay you want and lose weight, the vast majority of people are actively dieting, counting cals, look at any thread on it. People have to focus on macros, ensure they eat protein, and where feasible work out. To ensure they lose fat and not muscle. Of course it’s easier, that’s the whole point, but that doesn’t mean it’s effortless and the fat melts off. There is a whole spectrum between hard and effortless.

At what point did my post say it was effortless??
It's far easier to use weight loss injections rather than try and lose weight the traditional way of diet and exercise alone - simple as that. If it wasn't, they wouldnt be in such high demand and nobody would use them! Nobody actually likes to count calories, watch what they eat, exercise etc - its shit and hard bloody work
Why on earth would I be bitter? If i wanted to use weight loss injections I could just go and pay for them like most people have done if they decide that this is the route for them.

"I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs"

Think you do!! And that is fine, we can't all like everything people say or do, but don't pretend you don't have a problem.

Yeah, you do OP. They don’t melt fat. They don’t disappear calories from food or alcohol.
They do require a complete lifestyle and habit change… don’t know why YOU’RE so bothered though. If you have found methods that work - good for you.
If others are using different methods, good for them .

Summerbay23 · 07/11/2025 08:32

I think this nails it for me.

Why does there seem to be so much judgement around people that take a legitimate drug to aid weight loss, and greatly improve overall health? Why do other people have so much negativity towards it when in most cases our own doctors are totally supportive? Why are they so concerned about side effects we may experience and yet not concerned about the side effects of millions of other drugs. It honestly baffles me that people are so openly negative about something that presumably doesn’t effect them if they don’t take it.

Yep it's bullshit - tied up in fat phobia and ableism. There is so much of a moral judgement attached to being overweight, it's almost like losing weight has to feel like punishment - you do the crime, you do the time.

Never mind that if you do insist on looking at it like a competition, the playing field is not at all level. My female partner has always eaten way more than me, sometimes double. I give her huge portions of pasta as it's impossible to fill her up, and she has always been naturally slim. We do roughly the same amount of exercise too. I take after my mum, who has maintained her weight since I've been alive by basically eating one meal a day.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 07/11/2025 09:52

Definitely seems like an easy head start.
I lost the weight by myself because I couldn't afford the jabs 😂 if I could have I would have

CuriousKangaroo · 07/11/2025 09:43

Of course it’s easier, OP. If it wasn’t then those on the injections would have lost weight without them.

But I also understand why people on WLJ feel the need to say it’s not and some have probably even convinced themselves it isn’t. There is so much false morality and judgement around weight and weight loss imposed by society, it’s probably a coping mechanism in the face of years of being treated poorly for being overweight. So I’d just let that chat wash over me.

MargoLivebetter · 07/11/2025 09:38

As so many other posters have said, it doesn't have to be a competition. There are no medals for losing weight the hardest and most hellish way.

All diets work, because you are eating less regardless of whether it is paleo, atkins, weight watchers, slimplan or WLI. The real work is actually addressing all the causes of what drove you to put too much food in your mouth in the first place. For so many of us there are multiple reasons and if you don't sort that out, then the pounds will go back on. @Plind maybe that is what people mean when they say "you still have to put the work in".

Rumpledandcrumpled · 07/11/2025 09:36

weericky · 07/11/2025 09:16

Perhaps the issue is really that nobody on WLI is suggesting it’s as hard as not being on WLI, because surely if that were the case none of us would take them. What we are saying is that for many, it’s is still not easy. So it may be easier whilst also still meaning we have to put in some hard work.

I don’t really understand why anyone cares what other people do to lose weight or why anyone gives a flying fuck how someone else feels about the effort they have made. It’s weird and resentful and aggressive to be ranting that people have it ‘easy’ when you have done the hard work. So fucking what? It doesn’t make you a better person (perhaps worse given the attitude) and it didn’t affect your life, so how about people just pipe down and focus on their own?

My weight loss on WLI has certainly been easier than other attempts; but still very hard to achieve.

Edited

I don’t understand the whole obsession people not on them with folks who are on them. And then the whole bingo card, Sharon osbourne, you will regain it if you stop, and no no no don’t stay on for life, it’s so ageing, what about your pancreas, and now the bizzare it’s easy.

Effortless weightloss is the utopia. The dream. Imagine being the person who writes that like it’s a bad thing. 👀

the fact remains for many it’s not effortless. You do need to do the work, but of course doing that work is much easier and achievable when on the meds. It’s the whole point. Otherwise why would anyone take them.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 07/11/2025 09:29

Dissappearedupmyownarse · 07/11/2025 08:57

Think about it logically OP. If weight loss jabs didn't make weight loss easier than doing it the traditional way of eating less and exercising, then nobody would bother using them especially as they are so expensive! The NHS wouldn't prescribe them either! Let's face it, if weight loss was easy then nobody would be fat other than for medical reasons. I yo yo with my weight because eating healthy consistently is fucking hard work!!!
People who say that they have to put the effort in are trying to justify their weight loss with some form of self commitment rather than just saying, 'yeah, I've finally found an easier way of losing weight and I'm loving that I don't have to really put much effort in!'
