Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

Yes it gives you a push, a helping hand which is easier than going alone.

What’s your point? Do you still wash your laundry on a washboard and brag that somehow those using a washing machine are cheating?

And anyone who uses the phrase ‘mummy makeover’ is cringe central.

Blusteryskies · 06/11/2025 15:10

I'm afraid to say I do agree with you. Everyone always says it stops the food noise. On the rare day when I don't think about food all day long, I find it very easy not to overeat. If I felt that way daily, I'd find it much easier to say no to biscuits, chocolates and second helpings. I think it's great that they exist, and I'm happy for people who are losing weight on them, but let's not beat around the bush, it's removing the most difficult element of weight loss. I'm only slightly overweight, so cannot qualify for them but my weight has been a constant battle for my entire life. I'd love to be able to use weight loss injections and shut out the constant desire for food.

Ladybridgerton25 · 06/11/2025 15:10

I’ve lost 120lbs, don’t be too impressed though it’s taken nearly 2 years. I use Team RH to track everything I eat and drink, I do weight lifting at the gym 3x week, reformer Pilates and I hit my step goal. I’ve had therapy for my disordered eating too.

Now I get asked repeatedly by people if I’m on the jab. They know I do all of the above btw, they have seen me doing it or talked to me about it.

my answer is always, if I said yes does that discredit all the work I’ve done over the last two years? Because it is always people who are struggling to lose weight and they don’t ask me for my gym routine, or which Pilates I go to, they say they don’t want the app details as they can’t deal with tracking etc. which is fine it’s not for everyone. But if I said yes I’ve used the jab I know I’d instantly have all my efforts downgraded and that’s all anyone would focus on. My BMI is now 21 and I have muscles and I’ve worked so hard. Whether or not I used Mounjaro shouldn’t affect how people see that, but they will sadly. There will be people who use it and do none of the above and lose weight effortlessly and there will be people who do all of the above and more who may or may not use it. I don’t feel like that effort should be downgraded if they do personally but that’s just my 2pence.

Weight loss is hard, let’s not make it a competition too ❤️ (not directed at you op just in general)

But it suppresses your appetite which 99% of the issue…

Im not claiming you can stuff your face and still lose weight but it stops the food cravings

Appetite isn't 99% isnt the issue for some people, why do you think all people over eat for the same reason?

I have no issue being hungry, I couldn't not lose weight because I didnt want to be hungry.

Youve done very well losing weight without the jabs - you are far superior to those who have used the jab (big clap) - is that better??

Nothankyov · 06/11/2025 15:09

@Plind i think the way you need to look at it is - for you it feels like it solves 99% of the problem. But you don’t know about how it feels for the people on the jabs. I’m sure that there is a wide range of different experiences and struggles. We don’t know how it feels in other people’s lives. And I’m speaking from someone who has lost 45 pounds without any jabs.

TerrierSlave · 06/11/2025 15:07

TriggeredNameChanger · 06/11/2025 15:03

why can’t some people on the jabs just acknowledge that the hardest part of weight loss (food cravings as a result of deprivation? Is basically taken out of the equation.

Because a lot of people on them aren’t fat due to overeating because their body was physically hungry. A lot of people (me included) are fat due to an emotional dependency on food i.e. it’s a crutch.

I’m fat because I’m a comfort eater, that meant I ate when I wasn’t hungry; yes the jabs stops you feeling hungry and takes away food noise BUT as my problem is eating when I’m not hungry, what exactly do you think the jab is doing to curb that?

If you’re someone like me, who reaches for the ice cream and chocolate because they get comfort from it and are psychologically reliant on it then yes, you do have to put the work in as those emotional and psychological triggers are still there.

If people don’t have mental triggers with food then they will absolutely find the jabs make losing weight a breeze and that’s great. For others like myself though, who have an emotional connection with food and basically gets a dopamine hit every time they eat, you do have to put the work in as you’re still fighting those mental triggers; the jabs don’t magically take them away.

I hope that helps.

The thing is, I was an emotional eater, and I did have mental triggers to eat. Most of the time, when I was eating, I wasn't enjoying it at all. The jabs still worked for me. They've taken away my emotional reliance on food. I don't know how or why, but they have.

Im not jealous. I’d be on them in a heartbeat but im a SAHM and have chosen to spend my disposable income elsewhere

Wow, your posts are dripping with contempt and jealousy. You still have to make healthy choices on WLI.

I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

WTF is that?

Very defensive comments imo!

Probably because they know your contempt for them.

lljkk · 06/11/2025 15:03

I presume this entire thread has subtext of discussing these ideas: "People using WLIs are doing something immoral" or "lazy". Which is a stupid set of things to believe, imho.

Can't imagine why people are so engaged with the things OP said, otherwise.

Corknut · 06/11/2025 15:02

This topic is always going to be divisive. I agree with others, if you haven’t tried them it’s not really fair to comment. There are some people out there who don’t need to put any work in but the same can be said for ‘traditional’ weight loss methods. I can tell you for certain that many people on WLI still definitely do have to work at it! I’m on WLI (wegovy) and it can be hard. Side effects are just one of the challenges. I still have to think about what I eat, for some it might me magic but I suspect it’s not for most.

Also those on WL jabs put all the weight back on within a year to 20 months of coming off them, whereas those who lose weight by diet take five years to.regain. So you're on them forever.

BashfulClam · 06/11/2025 15:00

They Mrs. You still have to be in a calorie deficit. There is no point going on the jab and eating the same as usual. Yes it decreases your appetite but if you eat crap it won’t work. I know one bloke who has put on weight on them because he’s not actually changing his eating. He’s still emotionally reliant on comfort food. His wife is raging as it’s a waste of money unless you put some effort into using the advantage of reduced appetite.

TorroFerney · 06/11/2025 15:00

AmberRose86 · 06/11/2025 13:52

I dunno but the pancreas is not to be fucked with. That’s my view on WLI.

That, and I think there is a lot of defensiveness from users who don’t like to be seen as taking a short cut.

Agree with this. I think people do feel some shame perhaps subconsciously which is why they can tend to play down the help they do give.

TorroFerney · 06/11/2025 14:58

MakeMineADietCoke · 06/11/2025 13:44

It definitely doesn’t stop food cravings. It makes you physically ill if you eat the wrong things but it doesn’t stop you wanting them in the first place.

interesting as I thought they did (lots of people say they do on here and in other social media). So all they do is make you ill after? No effect on how much you want to eat at all it’s just the thought of the carnage after. I wouldn’t have thought that would have worked for a lot of people.

thats not what the medical people suggest they do, they suggest it reduces appetite and makes you feel fuller. Also that it dulls the high you get from other stuff like too much shopping or gambling.

Glowingup · 06/11/2025 14:58

Mounjaro doesn’t control my appetite at all. Sorry to disappoint. I need to get back on track but it’s basically not doing much for me at the moment. I am taking a low dose though.

ACR7 · 06/11/2025 14:56

I actually agree with you in a sense. I’m on them and I bloody love them. It takes away the noise and I am not so ravenous all the time. I must say it’s been quite easy to loose 5stone on them. What I think people mean sometimes is I’ve used this as an opportunity to make better choices as I’ve been weaning myself off them with a view to not being in them at all after Christmas. It doesn’t make you enjoy crap less so I’ve actively been trying to use this as a reset to make healthier choices which will help me keep it off. I could just eat crap but not much of it and loose weight but I’ve made the effort to not do that. You are right it’s been miles easier for me on the jabs but there is work involved in changing your lifestyle for when you come off them.

TicklishReader · 06/11/2025 14:54

What is it with us women and competeive suffering?

Who the fuck cares?

Catonacoldfridgefreezer · 06/11/2025 14:48

I’m surprised that some posters have voted that YABU. You’re absolutely right, they stop the food noise and allow people to consume less
calories and if they didn’t, and as hard as some posters would have you believe to still
lose weight then why take them?

OnARainyDay2012 · 06/11/2025 14:47

It really doesn't matter, does it? You've chosen the strategy that works for you, others have chosen a different one. It's not a competition!!

VQ1970 · 06/11/2025 14:47

I've been taking the WLI for a year and am stopping after this injection.

I have had very, very minimal side effects - no diarrhea, no sickness, no constipation, no headaches. The only thing I have experienced is indigestion if I eat too much.

It hasn't stopped me from overeating - I can easily eat the same as before and stuff my face. I can't stop myself even though I know I'll be waking up in the early hours with indigestion.

It hasn't taken away the food noise - I wake up thinking about food and what I can eat today, what have I got in the house to eat and I think about food constantly.

I have continued buying it because I'd started the programme (through my surgery, agreed to 12 months) but it's been costing me nearly £300 per month (not nhs) and that's why I've decided to now stop it.

I have lost weight by being careful to burn off more than I consume most days. I walk miles, I carry weights, I swim, I have weighed food, I have calorie counted, I have stopped myself from eating bad things because I'm spending so much money on this bloody injection even though I don't think it's working.

I defy anyone to tell me that you don't need to put any effort in because that's certainly not been my experience. If I'd just been injecting and carrying on as I was before, I'd be even heavier than when I started.

TokenGinger · 06/11/2025 14:46

For me, I’d say it’s doing 50% of the job for me. Reducing the hunger really does help. I do still experience hunger, and I can get ravenous, it’s just that once I’ve eaten, I’m satisfied for longer. So that definitely helps.

What is hasn’t done for me, which is the thing I struggle mostly with, is taken away the cravings. I still have to practice restraint when it comes to choosing the delicious foods I love - chocolate, pizzas, desserts. I had salmon a few weeks ago and was violently sick afterwards and felt unwell for days. My stomach just couldn’t handle the oil in it. Last week, I had a night away with a friend and had a chicken gyros and again, spent all night in the toilet being sick and had diarrhoea.

I could quite easily eat a family sized pack of crisps in place of dinner though without being sick if I wanted to, which is where there needs to be some self restraint.

I think it’s all very individual. If your reason for being overweight is due to hunger and you just eat excessive amounts of good, clean food and don’t have to worry about food cravings for “bad” things (by bad, I mean things that might trigger a bad tummy), then I can see how it would do 99% of the work for you. But if you have any issues with making poor choices and needing to undo many years of poor eating choices, then there still remains work to do on stepping away from those choices and making better decisions.

BadLuckNameChange · 06/11/2025 14:45

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:43

But it suppresses your appetite which 99% of the issue…

You make no sense. You say you have an emotional eating problem yourself and then immediately turn around and say that as long as a weight loss jab cures your hunger, there’s no hard work. Um, isn’t that the issue with emotional eating???? You’re eating when you’re not hungry, or your psyche has turned some other kind of distress into hunger? So in your case, weight loss jabs would still require all the emotional work you’ve put in to stop comfort eating. There are plenty of people who “out-eat” the jabs and lose no weight, and I would bet most (or all) of them are emotional eaters.

goforadrive · 06/11/2025 14:41

Well, luckily forcing people to take medication they don’t want to isn’t legal!

Obesity is also taking a chance with the pancreas in any case. The reality is that an obese person is already fucking about with their pancreas. And formerly obese bodies don't behave like people want them to. They try to become obese again!

weericky · 06/11/2025 14:44

lola243 · 06/11/2025 14:38

I know a lot of people on these drugs who are not morbidly obese, some barely overweight. Not enough research has been done yet. They’ve already linked the jabs to a couple of cancers - wait a decade or two and let’s see what happens. As previous poster said, don’t f with the pancreas. Pancreatic cancer is one of the fastest killers.

A lot of people using WLI are though, or were at the starting point. For us the risks were much higher due to the weight and that cannot be ignored because other people have a different starting point.

usedtobeaylis · 06/11/2025 14:44

NextOneb · 06/11/2025 14:41

To be honest I do agree with you @Plind

I do feel like people on weight loss injections can be strangely defensive. It’s hypocritical cause you get people in that camp adamant that their excess weight can’t be addressed through diet/exercise alone (ie hatred of the phrase “eat less, move more”); whilst simultaneously saying “you have to put the work in” - as if to admit that actually, diet & exercise is important after all.

Oh is it like fat people being defensive in general by any chance? Because no matter what we do people will still criticise? All that's happening now is that other fat and formerly fat people have finally got something superior to feel about themselves.
