‘Just the meat for me please’ Sunday Lunch issue ’

SIS and BIL coming for Sunday Lunch, bringing DN and her BF- recently engaged.
Got a little gift for them and card etc, my parents were coming any way so invited Sunday for food as makes sense.

SIS has just WhatsApped to say jokingly that the BF -mega gym bunny - ‘doesn’t do potatoes and trimmings- but don’t worry he’ll just pile his plate high with meat’
Im doing a couple chickens and a gammon between us all so plenty for everyone alongside stuffing, veg, Yorkies , gravey, cauliflower cheese etc but definitely not for a huge piled up plate of just meat!

I replied lightheartedly to SIS to this effect and she’s not a happy camper at all.
Just texted to say wants him to feel welcome so will bring him a couple of raw pork chops or similar to fry - I’ve said bring them cooked and sliced already in a Tupperware as I won’t be frying chops with all the carnage of the roast going on and my parents milling about under my feet ‘helping’

Shes voice noting at the moment can see the symbol
honestly am I just old or a shit hostess or is this how guests who barely know their hosts I might add expect to be catered for ???

I mean veggie/vegan all power to you
but a plate piled up of meat for lunch seems a bit full on to me ??

He'd get his food plated up like everybody else and he can leave what he doesn't want but he certainly wouldn't be getting anymore meat than anybody else. What an absolute CF. He's a guest and doesn't get to dictate what he wants unless it's a serious dietary requirement and in my opinion being a gym bunny is certainly not that!

I hate food being plated up for me. Why do people need everything on offer being dumped on a plate even if they don't like it? What is the point? Sure I get the meat aspect of it if it's been carved but the veg and trimmings it just wasteful.

He’s not being unreasonable to eat what he wants. No one should have to eat something that’s not in their diet.

BUT he should bring his own thing to eat. All it takes is FYI bf is doing this diet that’s really important to him at the moment so he’ll bring his own meal.

I've never had someone bring their own meal, but that sounds like a PITA because they would have to muscle in on the kitchen to cook it. JUST what you need when hosting - a fucking randomer in your space trying to cook alongside you and not knowing where anything is! And to bring their own meat, they'd have to live relatively close to avoid the meat going bad.

People who have weird diets should eat before they get there or after they leave. Or bring something that doesn't involve a kitchen, like protein bars.

There are lots of dietary requirements these days - which honestly, makes me think it's better to eat out.

That might be taking it a bit far lol
but I will give a full description lol

Have you actually met him before given they have just got engaged? Did you not know this before?

landlordhell · 05/11/2025 19:22

SwirlyShirly · 05/11/2025 17:37

I don’t think they would take it lying down at a Toby carvery so, to that end, YANBU.

Exactly! Because the cost is prohibitive. He should know how much meat costs and bring a contribution himself.

Kerrie1973 · 05/11/2025 19:21

Hm...how does 'eat what you're given and say THANK YOU' sound?

So rude!

ChikinLikin · 05/11/2025 19:07

Now I want to see this BF. I don't suppose you would post a pic on Sunday?
I'm hoping he looks like Desperate Dan, but he used to eat cow pie, whereas this guy would just have neat cow.

That might be taking it a bit far lol

Late to the thread but sorry… this is going to be gross…all I keep thinking (as a lifelong veggie) is God, I bet his morning shit absolutely stinks.

You mean his weekly shit. I bet he blocks the toilet with his decomposing depth chargers and has chalfonts like pulsating snooker balls

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 05/11/2025 19:20

Can't help wondering if this is SIS talking & he might actually be a normal person?

Olivebranch123 · 05/11/2025 19:19

OP, you must make the most delectable pudding/s,carb heavy of course. Thinking apple pie,the aroma of spices as you take it out of the oven or a decadent trifle.
Gym bunny can chow down artfully arranged plate of melon.

Plenty of people are gluten free for lifestyle reasons, I know several.

What do you mean by lifestyle reasons? I have no diagnosed gluten allergy but if I eat it I have stomach pain, diarrhoea and I ache all over and feel ill for a week, so I choose to avoid it. That’s not the same as choosing to eat nothing but expensive meat for vanity reasons.

diddl · 05/11/2025 19:08

He'd rather like to eat a whole chicken but his contribution is an avocado?😂

Sounds a great chap!

Promise promise I won’t
Sun evening watch this space !

Please please @Mondaytuesdayhappydays report back on what receptacles he brings the sliced avocado and the homemade mayo in. I really want to know.

londongirl12 · 05/11/2025 19:03

That’s just rude. You don’t accept lunch at someone’s house and then dictate how much of their food you want to eat. Why should you have to pay extra just because of the way he eats.

Anonymouseposter · 05/11/2025 19:03

Thanks for explaining.

Okay, I might have missed it but I have to ask what "on a cut" means. Never heard of it, looked it up and couldn't see an explanation, but people are posting as if everyone would be familiar with it.

Pretty much just means cutting calories, carbs, and fat from your diet to reduce body fat after a bulk (gaining weight - the aim is to build muscle rather than fat which demands an excess of calories, but some fat gain is inevitable, hence the cut after the bulk)

Pork would be a no-no during a cut and limited during a bulk because of the high fat content, so he is not cutting or bulking, and if he is, he is doing it wrong.

Is bulking and cutting the ultimate way to build muscle?

Is bulking and cutting the ultimate way to build muscle?

It's frequently talked about on social media, but will it lead to long term muscle gain?

I think you win the prize for longest reach of the week

No she doesn't, the BF sounds like a selfish, greedy, self centered pig with an exercise and muscle-building fetish. I certainly wouldn't be pandering to this sort of nonsense and I also wouldn't be allowing him anywhere near my toilet either! He sounds deeply unattractive on every level. And OPs sister is a king sized CF for even suggesting that OP caters to the BF's disgusting dietary demands.

It just means being in a calorie deficit to lose body fat. Bodybuilders go through cycles of bulking (eating in a calorie surplus to gain muscle mass) and then cutting to drop body fat to expose the muscle, sometimes in preparation for a show.

boatyardblues · 05/11/2025 18:56

This thread has reminded me of Japanese gay dating show I watched on Netflix last year where the guys all moved into a house share for the duration. One of the guys was an enormous, v muscular Chippendales-type dancer who ate masses of meat. They had a fixed budget for food and everyone else had to go without to sustain his lean protein requirements.

There’s nothing stopping your DN’s bloke bringing extra chicken in a tupperware box and supplementing his dinner. The cost of living is making hosting more challenging. When people make expensive lifestyle choices they can’t expect other people go foot the bill.

I have a feeling the bf probably did say he’d bring his own food (hence why he’s coming with his own avocado and mayo) but OP’s sister jumped in and told him not to worry about the meat and OP will provide it (in a bid to try and make him feel more welcome) and that’s why she’s in a tizzy now.

SatsumaDog · 05/11/2025 18:53

A whole lot of fuss over nothing. He arrives, gets served a reasonable portion of meat (so the same as everyone else) and if he decides not to have any veg then fine. He can eat another meal when he gets home if he’s still hungry. He’s hardly going to expire at the table if he doesn’t hit a particular protein target.

You are being very accommodating op. More so than I would be.
