There is a mum trying to raise money to send her son to Stanford for heart surgery
The mum has been doing tv and radio plugs, which has elped

this morning GB news told her not to do anymore interviews and held her waiting in a virtual room for an interview for 50 minutes and then just dropped her - she had the opportunity for another interview but due to this couldn't do it

GB "new" are unreasonable to just leave her like this hanging on after telling her they wanted no other coverage and she could have worked today with another tv or radio show to get coverage to help funds. Its a bad way to treat someone

this money has a time frame as the child is on palliative care and its a case of waiting until the moneys raised and then he can be flown out

Has she already been on GB News?
But the second time she was cut off?

The criticism of GB on this thread is interesting. Surely if the woman has already been on GB once (which someone upthread suggested) before then the woman thought her initial appearance on GB raised enough funds from the viewers to warrant going on it again?

If I were her I would be cross you posted this. News headlines change rapidly. Dropping guests is normal. Maybe the second channel would have done the same? She must have thought there was more money in GB News fans.

Edited

The money has been raised, her chid has the opportunity to have surgery and I doubt its of any consequence now as the exposure on other media outlets has worked in raising funds.

Baby Ollie appeared on This morning show and the final funds have been raised to ensure the surgery. The parents house is sold and they have moved back with her parents, this money will fund the 3 months stay in US

Any further funds donated are now directed to another child who needs heart surgery in America

But were you told not to give interviews to any other news outlets and then cut off without any explanation or apology?

You seem to think this is unusual. It isn’t. For anyone who works in media, outlets will often insist on some degree of exclusivity to feature your story so they aren’t covering precisely the same story as every other outlet. That is particularly so for a prime time channel. And yes, you might still get dropped if the news agenda changes. This is all standard practice, but it’s the calculated trade-off you make in exchange for coverage.

I was once bumped off news at 10 because other more important stuff was going on in the world that meant the article I was supposed to be in was cut almost entirely. It happens.

But were you told not to give interviews to any other news outlets and then cut off without any explanation or apology?

Please explain how they stoke hatred? Discussing UK border policy is surely a sensible topic to debate?

Do you watch it? Regularly?

Mass immigration, the death cult of islam and the harmful trans ideology is a lot of what's discussed on there. What's wrong with that?

Its not very positive or proactive is it. Its just overplaying fear. If they really wanted to bring down, for example, mass immigration, the most clear way of doing that in the long term is by working working closely with the world to reduce poverty, stop clcimate change and improve international relation and collaboration. One of the assumptions seekers i've met (and through workand where I live Ive met many) desperately want to live in england they just be had to leave where they were through desperation or because of lack of opportunities in their own countries.
GB news just stokes hatred towards immigrants rather than offering any actual practical.long term solutions. They don't really care about immigration. They just do it to raise the profile of the pokiticians and business peoplel that ultimately profit from protectionist measures.
With the trans issue, equally, they give not a single fuck about women's safety but know it is an easy populist bandwagon to jump on to get more votes/power/influence.
I can't even be bothered to discuss the issue about extremism somebody that calls islam a death cult. Extremists sadly from all walks of life being stoked up by the divisive media.

Zov · 05/11/2025 13:01

I agree with posters saying this is clearly just a way to have a pop at GB News and Reform voters. This sort of thing happens all the time @MikeRafone

Also I would not give to this woman's GoFundMe page anyway...I don't believe in funding one child/one person. I will give to something that is helping multiple (1000s) of people, but never to something that is funding one single person ...No. No way.

You don't need to be far left to see that GB news is propaganda for the far right.
Those of us who are centrists can see right through its hate filled bile as well.

I’m never convinced in these situations that an expensive operation abroad will be successful. The NHS would be doing the operation if feasible surely .

FullOfMomsense · 04/11/2025 01:42

GB News is run and loved by nasty far right reform voters who want to privatise the NHS, so it's not a suprise they had no sympathy for a young mum of a disabled and poorly baby.

Anyone still watching their channel is actively contributing to reform trying to force children like Ollie to have no access to healthcare.

What rubbish.

Is this some convoluted way of having a go at GB news to satisfy your far left resentment of anyone who thinks differently to you?

Nailed it.

TeenagersAngst · 05/11/2025 11:49

Even Nigel Farage is pretty reasonable with his guests - he always has someone on from the left and always debates with them fairly, giving them time to air their opinions. GB News also is the fastest growing channel in recent years so clearly people are watching him and liking what they hear. It helps to explain the polls.

I just can't imagine anyone on here slating GB News ever watches it. Why would they? If they hate it that much, why would it be their channel of choice?

But this also means they are spectacularly ill-informed when 'critiquing' it.

TeenagersAngst · 05/11/2025 10:00

To everyone saying GB News is 'hate filled', have you ever spent more than five minutes watching it?

I imagine not, because you only consume media that aligns with your left wing sensibilities.

Maybe actually watch a few shows? 99% have left wing guests to balance the right wing guests. Unlike the BBC which only ever seems to seek out one political viewpoint.

Yes, whenever people criticise GB News I always ask them which presenters they’ve watched, and the only presenter they are able to name is usually Nigel Farage, who only does a couple of hours a week, no one else. There are some decent presenters on the station, especially in the evenings. Michelle Dewberry’s programme at 6.00 pm always has two guests, one from the left who could be a labour MP or a left leaning journalist, and one from the right. Matt Goodwin is a good watch, as is Patrick Christy’s. They are very good at giving young journalists opportunities, which is refreshing. Yes, of course they have some presenters who are a bit too far to the right for my tastes, but it’s good to have a different perspective on events from the usual output of the bbc/sky/channel four etc.

Comefromaway · 05/11/2025 10:42

They have issued her an apology. She did say that many people don;t agree with her agreeing to go on GB news in the first plae and that too, was my first thought. But she pointed out that she can't really be too choosy, she needs to raise the last 10% and quickly.

Whether it's far right or not.. It's still bloody bad manners and given her child's health status... Utter crap

Also they are Ofcom regulated like every other channel . There’s no far right rhetoric they have left and right guests but that doesn’t fit the narrative of the left who prefer to silence dissenting voices .

You really think she just phoned the hospital and it was all arranged just like that.

The public appeal is at the end of a long process, liasing with the NHS, looking at options, researching, finding a hospital able to carry out the procedure.

As a mother I know I would do ANYTHING to give my child the chance of life.

sashh · 05/11/2025 06:01

OK I am still sceptical. You can't just phone a hospital and ask if they can do the surgery, it just doesn't work like that.

I'm also aware people lie about medical conditions, a lot. Most don't mean to, they don't fully understand their condition.

I worked in cardiology and we had a patient who was forever in the local paper for raising money, which was great of him, but he always told the paper he only had, 'half a heart', which wasn't true.

Has any Dr from Stanford examined this little boy?

In the US if you have the money you get the op you want, whether that is for the best or not.

Comefromaway · 04/11/2025 14:37

She did contact hospitals all across Europe and Canada and Stanford is the only place that can do it.

I would like to know this because the shunts are inserted in the UK.

Article from an Italian team doing the surgery a couple of decades ago.

That’s the second procedure that will hopefully be performed by the NHS after he recovers from the first procedure. His defects are severe enough that he’s not a candidate for that right now.

The pulmonary artery reconstruction must be performed at Stanford in California.

JHound · 04/11/2025 14:04

It’s GB news. More fool her.

She posted on Instagram last week that she had raised enough money now. How come that’s changed?

I’m not a n instergram so have no idea what she posted there

her donation page is at £1.3 million and it says the cost for Stanford is £1.5 which would suggest she is £200k short, or maybe less as donations come in

BluntPlumHam

I agree, maybe I shouldn’t have posted this
