I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

Did John notice you when you were 12 and a half stone? If not, at what weight did he start to show an interest?

Yeeees! Here's the question!😂

Pity that isn’t ‘chased’ then you’d lose even more weight!!

😂

Not at all sarcastic! Why would you think so? You are amazing 👏

Existing on 2 supermarket sandwiches a day washed down with Diet Coke until you are ‘stick like’ to quote op, isn’t amazing. It’s an eating disorder. Why is everyone celebrating it?

Because the OP has lost the weight in the most unhealthy way!!

I can’t work out if this is sarcastic or not!

I admire your discipline!!!

well done. So what’s happening with John - send a pic so I can see if I can find one like him to inspire me….

I’m definitely not jealous. Just incredulous that so many people are congratulating op for her supermarket sandwiches and Diet Coke weight loss, which is as daft as it is dangerous. Since when do we congratulate stupidity?

Fair point. And 1300cals sounds very low to me.

Not only do you sound ridiculous, but also a little jealous.

NormasArse · 04/11/2025 19:08

I don’t know who would be jealous- her daily menu sounds miserable!

Goddessoftheearth · 04/11/2025 19:06

Congratulations on your achievement! And good luck with John! I’m just jealous that I’m 49, menopausal and on HRT and would need to be -1200 calories a day 😂

WildLimePoet · 04/11/2025 19:03

Why all the salty comments at OP? Is it jealousy?

WildLimePoet · 04/11/2025 19:02

Crunchymum · 03/11/2025 16:55

But what if there hadn't been a John? Would you still be 5st heavier?

Will John like you if you get bigger again?

You do realise you should lose weight for yourself rather than John?

Edited

Not only do you sound ridiculous, but also a little jealous.

Lokiswife · 04/11/2025 18:58

I divorced my John!! (Yup, his actual name!!) & am overweight due to the metric tonne of medication I'm on, my ill health & mobility issues!!!

Happily, my "John" thinks I'm just fine and dandy as I am.

Cringe

Putneydad7 · 04/11/2025 18:10

Being single is great for losing weight, then you meet someone and it's all meals out and then cohabiting and cooking for each other even if you're not hungry.
I was 80kg when I met my wife, gradually worked my way up to 105kg 20 years later. Finally after years of trying and failing at everything from Atkins to Keto I went on the Mounjaro and now am at 81kg, so pretty much back to where I was in 2004. Sure it's a cheat, but the alternative was to divorce her and get skinny that way!!😀

NadineQueue · 03/11/2025 16:52

No we’re dating!! But so far it’s all been very chaste!! 🤣😊

BringBackCatsEyes · 04/11/2025 10:09

She admits she does drink a lot of diet Coke, but also eats 1300 calories.
The crude check I just did suggests a woman of OP's heigh doing moderate exercise needs 1500 cals to maintain.

200 fewer cals a day isn't starving yourself and I since most people under estimate what they consume I bet it's not even 200 cals.

nb I could be talking bollocks. I have NO idea how many cals I consume!

It’s the QUALITY and nutrition that are an issue in the OP’s case. They’re empty, processed calories that won’t be providing either the satiation or the nutrition

EngineeringSocially · 04/11/2025 11:32

FlowerUser · 04/11/2025 10:37

I think you missed the point of my post which was that the speed of the weight loss is impossible by calorie restriction and exercise alone. The OP is encouraging a poor and unsustainable diet which is putting her health in danger. The actual weight of 7.5 stone is dangerously low.

BMI is a crude population measure that is almost meaningless in individuals as this situation shows. I used it to demonstrate that the OP's claim to be a 8 in modern sizing was unlikely, given my size as someone much bigger (and taller) as measured by BMI is a size 10.

How is it ‘dangerously’ low? How on earth do you know that?

I am five two, weigh 7 stone 8, and have been more or less this weight all my adult life. Not a single doctor has made a comment and it’s in the healthy range. I am fit and active and eat more than most of my friends as we all have different metabolisms. No friends have expressed concern either, faux or real as I look healthy and well. Lots of Asian family members have a similar build/weight and are well.

It is very odd to make such sweeping statements about someone’s medical history!

BringBackCatsEyes · 04/11/2025 11:27

In any case 7.5 stone is incredibly low weight, even for your height. You've probably lost muscle as well as fat and you're not well.

7 1/2 stone at 5' 1" is not an incredibly low weight

I do agree that with the fast weight loss in the absence of a good exercise routine she has probably lost a tonne of muscle tone.
