The racism on the Huntingdon train threads is appaling

Just as the title says. The blatant racism and jumping to conclusions on the threads has been terrible. Mumsnet used to be a more informed intelligent place.

There are racists everywhere. A friend of mine was murdered and the stuff that was said about him was horrific. They dragged his name through the mud. He was called a pedophile. It was suggested that he groomed the person that killed him. That she was his drug mule. She said in court that he was kind to her. That he was a mentor to her. That he was never inappropriate with her. That in a moment of anger she stabbed him. He lost his life but the trolls destroyed his name.

Reporting racist posts is at least doing something - more productive than e.g. sending thoughts and prayers. What other actions do you suggest?

Firstly, I would point out that we live in an era where terrorist attacks are not unusual and there have been previous terrorist attacks where knives were used. Under which circumstances it is not racist to speculate about the identity of the perpetrators, and whilst I appreciate that the police did state that it was not terrorism-related, the information was drip-fed and you have to accept that at least some of the people speculating had not seen the police statement when they posted.

I am mixed-race and I have to say that I am heartily sick of people (many of whom have never experienced racism themselves) calling out racism where none exists. Rooting out posts for speculation and reporting them, when you know that moderators will delete just because there has been a complaint, and then triumphantly posting about it as if it makes one a dispenser of justice, is a particularly foul form of bigotry.

We're living in a powder-keg in this country. Telling people they can't express their fears and then jumping down their throats when they do so clumsily doesn't help any of us. I am proud of my heritage, but if I am subjected to racism I will deal with it, and I don't need someone who can't even define the term muddying the waters in order to make themselves feel superior.

keep telling people?! Who is telling people?

It is fact. Millions are arriving every year. That is fact. Are you suggesting it isn’t true? It’s not ‘racism’ to point out that it’s putting unbearable strain on infrastructure, housing, hospitals and social care.

Edited

Let's get this right.

Yes, up to last year (afaik), we had a million odd immigrants come. Guess what? Nearly all of those people were granted visas by our government to come work/study here.

Then, you complain about the infrastructure. This is a valid point.
However, who do you think is in charge of our infrastructure? The same government who grants those visas.

The same government who actually CUT the funding for years, under austerity, for all those things we need, schools, NHS, housing etc while still granting record numbers of visas.

Who really is to blame here? The immigrants or our flipping governments? Let's get angry with the right people.

Generally not this type of crime? Do you have the stats for that?

I can name a few mass shoutings by white British men, but not stabbings. There may have been some, but aside from serial killers like Jack the Ripper, knives don’t seem to be the weapon of choice for white men here.

So the poster stating that ‘our’ mass attackers don’t seem to use methods ‘like this’, is probably true.

Are you really trying to justify racist views as 'correct'?

I see it on here duh. I read real live experiences.

What, you read actual reports of people being attacked by Muslim immigrants here on MN? Or do you read fellow racist views and accept those as facts?

You will be pleased to know then that net migration has fallen considerably

I dont disagree that the UK is in a difficult place. If youd actually read this thread you would have seen that Huntingdon is my local town. I work all over the country.
I also know that racism and division doesnt help.
Which is what this thread is about.

How odd. That you are coming on here to tell people they are racist for feeling worried about their safety, and yet you acknowledge we have huge problems, and still you are not offering any actual solutions. Maybe I haven’t seen the threads you are alluding to, but I do think the gov urgently need to get a grip.

If there were a general election tomorrow, who would form the next government? It sounds like a simple question if you have access to the latest polls. But when the latest YouGov poll, r

How quickly you've gone from "I'm just a poor worried citizen" to spouting Elon Musk's poison.

You could at least try and be subtle about it.

The infrastructure you talk about would collapse without the input of migrants over the years.

If you keep telling people that civil war is coming and they're about to be attacked by hordes of invading migrants then the country will start to feel less safe, obviously.

We are an incredibly safe country. Incredibly safe. There are just a lot of cunty grifters that don't you want to think this. It's all just a grift.

You can keep telling yourself that if it brings you comfort. Every single day there’s another rape being committed by men who haven’t long been in the country. We’re not a serious country anymore that prioritises the safety and security of citizens.

RingoJuice · 02/11/2025 21:14

AlohaMyMan · 02/11/2025 20:34

Women don't - I mean in Melbourne a woman stabbed another woman randomly in the street and the victim had a punctured lung.

A black woman in the states stabbed a young 2 year old in death in front of his mum. It's probably a lot less. And a lot less reported. But it happens.

But as I asked before what is the "bad thread"?

A very much under discussed phenomenon in the US is that, when black men are less likely to be incarcerated (often ebbing and flowing with political climate), black females will commit more homicides. Some years it will be, on a per capita basis, higher than white males. Always higher than East Asian males, at any rate.

Now these particular crimes are not very much discussed because they tend to be (though obvs not exclusively) family based, so do not affect the wider community (however it can and should be discussed and better understood).

You can’t see the growing issues in our country? Maybe you live in the highlands or in a bubble somewhere, because from where I am sitting the situation looks critical.

Have you seen the one where they are discussing what sprays (pepper, Deep
Heat) should be carried as the government is no longer caring for us

But that is a useful idea for many situations. Attemped rape etc.

bombastix · 02/11/2025 21:13

What I see is a lot of fact free fear mongers. Who would want that? Does it help the UK?

Your response to an appalling, brutal attack is to go through threads looking for people to report? 👏

I can't quite belive im being 'tone' policed for pointing out facts. Thats how much mumsnet has changed. You used to have to be prepared to argue your corner here and demonstrate critical thinking.

Look me up if you like. I rarely change my user name.

The media fuel it.

I saw a headline that read “train knifeman used these two words before being tased” and of course the brainless masses all assumed it was AA. Didn’t even read the article before foaming about it

Elon Musk is openly talking about civil war abd about how migrants are descending on villages and raping kids.

These messages are constantly repeated on social media.

And this has no impact on how people feel?

As well as programming Grok to spread misinformation
