Mounjaro jabs! WWYD

MangoRose · 01/11/2025 20:27

I have just started mounjaro jabs and haven't told anyone at all. This may be a really stupid question but would you tell people or just say eating less/exercise. I have recently started at the gym after a long break so it wouldnt be unbelievable I guess.

It feels really deceitful, but then again its no ones business and they shouldn't really ask (IMO).

I took it for 6 months and lost 3.5stone, which was only put on due to a medication I had to have 4 years ago. MJ has got me back to my normal weight and I haven't felt the need to tell anyone. Ive come off it and easily maintaining. When asked, I said I've been eating less (which isn't a lie). It's private medical information and absolutely nobody's business except yours and any medical professionals.

I tell everyone. Whatever anyone says it IS cheats way of losing weight. What they do is supress your appetite. If you continue to eat crap, you will eat less due to satiety.

i completely understand about will power, foof noise etc. ultimately weight loss comes into calories in vs calories out.

Cheat?
Why is it a competition? Is there a leader board or something I should've cheating my way to the top of?

@MangoRose I wouldn't tell anyone. There are hundreds of posts on mumset which demonstrate how arsey people are towards people on the jabs, from calling them cheats, calling them lazy, doling out the old use self control trope, good old eat less move more and my personal favourite, the faux "concern" .
It's nobody's business.

Edited

Its crazy how often people who have put on weight are called lazy. I have found its the opposite, my life is so busy I have got into dreadful habits of eating late at night (convenience food) and going to the gym erratically, many people I know are in a similar situation. I don't sleep enough, I don't say no to doing anything, I also eat too much when working from home more often.

It’s not about fairness but being considerate. I lost seven stone in a year using Mounjaro. I had several colleagues who struggled with their weight ask me how I did it.

I could have said “oh it’s just diet and exercise” and gone on my way, knowing how hard I found it to stick to a diet and exercise regime. But that would have been very inconsiderate of me, knowing there was a huge helping hand in the background.

Well unless they have lived in a monastery on an uninhabited island, your dueting colleagues can't be unaware of the existence of the jabs. They dont need you to tell them. It's in every news paper.

I do agree it shouldn't be something to be ashamed of but people always have something to say about stuff like that. I am definitely an over thinker with everything!

Thanks for all your responses, its really helpful and definitely motivating with all your success stories.

I wouldn’t say anything at all.

If someone comments that you’ve lost weight, I’d just say thanks.

They’re nothing to be ashamed of but if it’s making you anxious, just don’t say anything.

SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 22:44

I don’t pretend I’ve found a huge load of willpower at all. I say i eat less and exercise more and that it’s not easy to do. And that’s only when directly asked by a couple of people who are not close friends who were simply being a bit nosy. Not desperate obese people who wanted to know the secret to my weight loss success and wouldn’t have been able to figure out that WLI are now an option for them unless I specifically told them about them.

mylittleworld563 · 01/11/2025 22:43

It's a personal thing so up to you, but I find that it becomes a major topic of conversation when people start talking about it. I take them and my sister and brother know, but no one else does. I don't engage in talking about other people's weight gain/loss and when people say anything about my weight loss I say nothing and redirect. That's enough for most people, I've only had to be blunt with one person who wouldn't take the hint. I told them 'Its none of your business, I don't talk about my weight with others' and I left it at that.

SoEasyToFall · 01/11/2025 22:40

Am I not allowed to think that?

I just think it’s a shame that it’s so stigmatised people feel ashamed to say they’re on them. I also think it is unfair to pretend you’ve found a huge load of willpower when you’re using a drug that help you a lot 🤷🏼‍♀️

Who said you’re not allowed to think anything?

SoEasyToFall · 01/11/2025 22:40

jelllyontheplate · 01/11/2025 22:38

I think it’s offensive when a holier than thou poster is preaching about others being deceitful, unfair, wrong or inconsiderate to not share private medical history with everyone yes. As would most normal people. I disagree with you too but you’ve still carried on about how wrong and deceitful you think it is.

Do you take offence to everything that’s said that disagrees with you?

I think if someone says to you “I’m really struggling with my weight, how have you lost yours?” and you turn around and say “it’s just diet and exercise!”, knowing full well you’re using a medication that helps you be in a calorie deficit, that’s wrong and deceitful. Why would you not just say “I’m using Mounjaro”? It’s not as if it’s something to be ashamed of?

If they ask I just say I’ve changed what and how much I’m eating drastically. It’s not a lie…

Like others, I would assume anyone I know who has lost significant weight would be on GLP-1 anyway these days. They're so common.

I even know people who only had half a stone to lose go on the jabs and are now stick thin!

I'm not overweight but have put on a stubborn half a stone and I'm seriously tempted to give them a go myself...

I was refused by two providers before managed to get them. They seem quite strict but my friend has a colleague who is tiny and is now extremely thin who has openly said she is on them.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 22:34

@SoEasyToFall whether other people feel shit about themselves is out of my control and could be caused by anything that I say or do, as it's about them and their issues, not me going about my business in a reasonable way. I have seen many friends and acquaintances lose weight over the years, through various ways, and not once has that made me feel shit that I haven't managed it. I have no idea if what they say they did to lose the weight was what they actually did, and it's not something I need to or should be expected to know. I was just pleased for them that they had achieved their goal.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 01/11/2025 22:34

I have told everyone who has noticed i have lost weight

went out with 3 friends the other day, 2 of the 3 i had already told. I told the 3rd, she has lost loads of weight since January, and explained how they work etc as she seemed very interested.

she dropped my two friends home and as she parked at mine she said that she was on the jabs but has been too embarrassed to tell anyone

i felt a bit of a twat as id been earnestly explaining everything 😀

I have told anyone and everyone except for my mother. She and I have a very difficult relationship about my weight.

With everyone else I have been honest and said I needed a helping hand to get started. Am now 3 stone down with another 1.5 to go.

I also was honest with the gym and gp as I wanted their support.

Good luck it has been brilliant support to me, although it has been difficult at times with random digestive upsets.

Ditto.

Mothers are impossible.

If you only have half a stone go lose no legitimate pharmacist would sell it to you.

You don’t need to ‘pretend’ anything. You just don’t have to tell anyone what drugs you’re taking. I’m clearly just a deceitful arsehole because I don’t want to share my private medical history with everyone at work, thanks for that.

I just think, knowing how hard it is to lose weight the traditional way, that it’s deceitful and wrong to try and pretend you’ve suddenly got a huge amount of willpower. These drugs are incredible things that do something amazing, but you’re wrong if you pretend they’re not a huge helping force

Notagain75 · 01/11/2025 22:31

It's no one else's business. Nothing to be ashamed of but I don't know why anyone should be told about personal medical information.

SoEasyToFall · 01/11/2025 22:30

SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 22:28

@SoEasyToFall there's a difference between discussing your own personal circumstances, and discussing WLI in general. If someone asked me if I thought WLI were a good idea, I'd say yes and explain why I think so, without needing to give my own personal experience. No one needs to know that I am using WLI in order to find out about them or discuss them. I can't imagine that there are many obese people who are desperate to lose weight who haven't heard of them by now!!

Edited

Sure but unless you’re open about using them, it’s just going to make other people feel shit about themselves isn’t it? It’s not like it’s an embarrassing thing to use? I can honestly say I’ve never heard a bad response. People I know who have been very against them have changed their mind after speaking to me.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 01/11/2025 22:29

I said nothing unless I was asked. If I was asked I answered truthfully. Why would you not? You have nothing to be ashamed of.

MangoRose · 01/11/2025 22:29

themerchentofvenus · 01/11/2025 22:21

I don't see the point of lying unless you're embarrassed?

I am embarrassed in a way, I feel like I have been greedy and lacked control. I only feel like that about myself, I feel like I look disgusting whereas I dont feel like that about others, I see people who are several stones heavier than me and often think they look great in an outfit I don't think I could wear as I'm not a size 10. I don't feel like they should be embarrassed or think badly of them if they are on the jabs either.
