Just that .
We went out, invited her to come out too , she refused .
Got home and she took down all
the decorations, which I wanted to keep up a bit longer as it’s my house and I like them!
I know , there are bigger problems in the world , but I’m annoyed and had to tell someone .
I would never clear up anyone’s house without their permission .
she made it clear she didn’t like them and I guess they triggered her OCD .
I am gonna have a very very dark gothic Xmas this year, I always wanted a black tree anyway.

I would assume she was saving you a job as Halloween was the previous day but I know not everyone feels that way. I have friends who leave birthday cards up for a week which seems mad to me. I put them up on the day and then bin them the following day.

Was she trying to be helpful in a misguided kind of way?

MiL made it clear she did not like the decos....

godmum56 · 01/11/2025 21:57

I keep my halloween stuff up until Thanksgiving. Brit living in the Uk.

Harrysarseinthedogbowl · 01/11/2025 21:43

Maybe she decided 'there isn't room for more than one old bat in this house'.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 01/11/2025 21:19

Yabu if you didn't say anything...
Put your Xmas tree up tomorrow...
And vow never to leave her Home Alone. She isn't to be trusted...

That would have been my assumption. Since Halloween is over she was maybe trying to be helpful. This is why context always helps.

That really rude, you don’t clean up other peoples houses, fine wash up your own cup and wipe the side if you use it but removing decorations without asking is rude.

I would absolutely be having a black gothic Christmas just to piss her off.

Namechange6578 · 01/11/2025 21:02

God that's ridiculous, I'd have been very annoyed too! I did mention taking ours down today as Halloween has gone 😆, but DDs asked to leave them til Monday so they're staying up (they have inset day so we can do it then).

So cheeky to do that in someone else's house

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/11/2025 20:58

Eh? What did you do? I hope it was a/ ask WTF are you doing?, and b/ put them all back. Does she routinely do stuff like that? There’s no way I’d put up with that. CF.

OP says she was invited out and refused. She chose to stay in the house.

But we don't know why she was there as op has posted then vanished.

Meredithspants · 01/11/2025 20:51

It’s November. Yabu

But we don't know why mil is there as op has vanished she may have had no choice. Babysitting, pet sitting, lives 100 miles away.

Yes of course I do, which is why you remove yourself from a situation rather than sitting there an letting it take over.

But surely you understand everyone's illness presents differently.

I have diagnosed OCD and it doesn't entitle me to alter people's homes without permission, however much something gets to me. You leave or you ask.

TheZanyZebra · 01/11/2025 20:44

What was she doing in your house in the first place?

Don't invite her again, she's nuts.

godmum56 · 01/11/2025 20:44

I hope you put them back up again while she was still there?

Foxybyname · 01/11/2025 20:41

amber763 · 01/11/2025 19:13

Ffs how rude of her! Id have hung them all back up again right in front of her.

This. With knobs on

StripyHorse · 01/11/2025 20:35

YANBU

If it helps, both times I was in hospital giving birth to my daughters, MIL let herself in and rearranged the furniture in my living room. DD1 is now 18 but it still grates on me.

LBFseBrom · 01/11/2025 20:29

Soontobe60 · 01/11/2025 19:15

I’m with the MIL on this one 😂😂😂

I dislike Halloween intensely. However I just wouldn't have gone to a house that was celebrating Halloween so the situation wouldn't have arisen. She shouldn't have taken them down but it's over anyway so forget it now. Next year, don't have her over on that day.

DickDewey · 01/11/2025 20:27

Did you ask her why?

Diversion · 01/11/2025 20:26

Wow, how rude! I would be absolutely furious too.

lazyarse123 · 01/11/2025 20:22

I'd put them all back up and tell her to leave my stuff alone.
What did you say to her?
