If they say that they are sick n tired of the sight of them or find it difficult to clean around them.

Don’t put the tree up early then!

I am usually live and let live, but i kinda agree, .im a 12 days before person then take it down on the 2nd, a Christmas tree up for actual months would do me in,

That’s about our timing, too. I’m ignoring all the Christmas advertising for at least a month.

Lastfroginthebox · 01/11/2025 13:53

Perhaps because they love the anticipation but not the aftermath.

I don't mind people putting them up early, it's the spending boxing day taking them down that I can't get on board with. Surely there are better things to do and Christmas is more than a single day.
Ours don't go up until December after DH and DS' birthdays. I have a summer birthday but can understand it might not be great for your birthday to be taken over by Christmas. I usually take them down after new years eve whenever the next weekend is and no later than twelfth night. It's nice to still have the lights etc when you're still in celebration mode, having visitors etc

Perhaps they take them down then because they want to?

PigletIsWorried · 01/11/2025 13:46

Does it really matter what most people are doing when it comes to Christmas? Surely each family just does what works for them?

That's why I said it irrationally annoys me I'm fully aware its nothing to do with me.

SquirrelandPanda · 01/11/2025 13:46

Mine comes down straight after Christmas because my dad died on New Years Day and I don’t like decorations up for each anniversary, I’m sure there are lots of reasons why people do it!

Because boxing day is still Christmas most people are still seeing family and celebrating November is not

tinytemper66 · 01/11/2025 13:43

Why does this concern you? You do you.

Makemydaypunk · 01/11/2025 13:42

I blame a lot of the ‘influencers’ that a lot seem to follow, all of them wishing their lives away, desperate for Autumn when it’s still summer, then soon as Autumn has arrived they are desperate for Christmas, once Christmas Day is here they are desperate for Spring and the cycle continues 🙄 These influencers certainly live up to their job title.

frozendaisy · 01/11/2025 13:41

Our NDN has had her’s up for over a week, H, the teens and I think it’s nuts.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:41

It's normal for me and where I live to not take down the tree until Jan.

A big part of this is because my council will not collect them until the 1st week of Jan at the earliest. You can't chuck your tree out on the street 2 weeks prior and block the pavement!

Beon · 01/11/2025 13:39

Gamerlady · 01/11/2025 12:47

There's 12 nights of Christmas, none are in November. It baffles me people put them up so early then pull them down boxing day.

Christmas adverts already making an appearance on the tv, we haven't had bonfire night yet! It feels so forced and rushed. Let's just enjoy November.

Sainsbury’s used to put their Xmas ad after Armistice Day or Remembrance Sunday (which ever was the latest) and two years ago, it was shown about 3rd Nov.

My dd does it, its weird imo. Christmas trees are for, well, Christmas.

It's also very arrogant to assume that the way you choose to do your own Christmas is 'normal' and others aren't.

This is the point I am making. What is a normal Christmas? What is an abnormal Christmas?

I can answer that everything I do is normal and people who do it differently are wrong. Its as simple as that

Tell them to come over before Christmas then.

Problem solved.

I wouldn't have someone in my home pissing me off while I'm still in celebration mode.

But everyone is working earlier this is why we do Christmas day and boxing day. All I ask for is 2 days to celebrate Christmas with everyone and I would appreciate if people want to be involved in that to still be festive and ready to celebrate Christmas. Not taking decorations down. Putting away their Christmas clothes and saying Christmas is over.

worzelgummidgestyle · 01/11/2025 13:36

I do think Christmas fatigue is a real thing

Yep. I sometimes do what the OP seems to find utterly baffling. It's just because I get excited in the run up to Christmas and then when it's done I am fed up of it. I hardly think that means I need to see a psychiatrist as the OP seems to suggest.

This tedious topic comes up every damn year and it's so tiresome.

People are different to you. Big fcking deal. If you havent learnt this after living on this planet for x amount of years then I find THAT baffling.

lifeonmars100 · 01/11/2025 13:36

Almost 8 weeks of lookng at the tree would really do my head in, I like it to be up for a short time and really enjoy looking at it rather than for it to start to feel like part of the furniture.

frozendaisy · 01/11/2025 13:35

Just a symptom of more individualistic times.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/11/2025 13:34

I decorate at the start of December (sometimes the last Sunday in November at the start of advent if we’re free), and take it down around 3/4 January.

I like still having the tree up for new year, and can’t be bothered taking it down between Christmas and new year - they are designated lazy days in our house, and sorting out Christmas decs and cleaning would get in the way of that. It wouldn’t feel right working our way through the leftovers and Christmas chocs in a non-festive house. 😂 After new year is fresh start, clean house, healthy eating, regular exercise etc.

So I find it odd that people go early, and take it down straight after Christmas. But different strokes for different folks and all that. My mum did see one last week, which seems ridiculously early to me, but you never know if someone has a specific reason - terminally ill family member, someone in the forces who won’t be around etc.

Not later then them we are both celebrating Christmas day separately and then im continuing it on boxing day as that is still Christmas they choose to come round as they want to see us over Christmas so I make it christmassy and then they announce how Christmas is over. I have no issue with people putting their tree up whenever they like i have an issue with people taking it down on Christmas day and boxing day and announcing Christmas is over. When they have just spent nearly 2 months telling everyone how they can't wait for Christmas

Obviously they can do it when they want but I always feel sorry for the children of parents who do this. One of my favourite memories of childhood Christmas was the excitement when the tree went up the week before, because it meant Christmas Day was nearly here. I loved getting up on dark mornings and going downstairs to see the twinkling lights. That excitement is lost for children when the tree goes up too early. I also think that for a lot of parents it’s so they can put it on SM.

I loved the gradual build up when I was a child, one of the things I remember was when the bottle tops on our milk delivery changed from plain to ones with a print of holly leaves on. It meant Christmas was on its way, then cards and parcels began to arrive and the long agonising wait for the big day was underway. Tree went up a week before and I would be spell bound by the lights. I know that things aren't like that anymore and it is going to be full on now for nearly two months

My daughters friend put hers up today.. but has a terminal ill child that might not be here for Christmas.
Don't be so negative.

Well, that is a good reason. The OP is asking a quite reasonable question...
On Thursday I was walking down the street where there was a busker singing 'Feliz navidad'.

Later than them

Do they get annoyed and take it as a personal slight because your tree isn't up in November?

@AliceTheCamelHasTheHumpSoGoAliceGoBomBomBom

No, I replied to a poster saying you have no idea of what goes on other lives. The context of my reply was just because someone works or divorced it's not a given the tree has to come down on a day later. And if you don't know anyone who takes a tree down on boxing day doesn't mean you don't know anyone who has different circumstances.

You said

That's all normal, not sure why you have to pack away the tree a day or so after because of those things though.

And I said because different people make different choices.

It's also very arrogant to assume that the way you choose to do your own Christmas is 'normal' and others aren't.
