Parent messaged me to complain about DH

This is a strange one. DS had his friend round on Tuesday, they were mainly just playing video games upstairs. They came downstairs and DS started to moan that the Wi-Fi was down.

DH said he’d need to ‘go for the old school approach and grab a top shelf magazine from the corner shop’ and DS just laughed it off.

The next day, his friends mum has messaged me to say she doesn’t appreciate DH making inappropriate comments in front of her son.

I’ve ignored it…but am now overthinking whether I should have replied to clarify nothing was said to her son?

Edited to add both 17yo

OP posts:

The comment was grim but I am very surprised that a 17 year old went home to tell his mother.

UsernameMcUsername · 31/10/2025 15:30

The mum was OTT, but your DH should be more aware re visitors. I have teen / preteen boys and our household humour is cheerfully crude about poos and farts (nothing sexual though), but I would never ever crack those jokes within earshot of their friends. As an adult you need to be very appropriate around unrelated children and young people I think

Probably IS a lad. Wink

Nope - sorry to disappoint you Grin

What a demeaning way to speak to someone.

She isn’t missing the point, she just doesn’t agree with you.

Thank you!

Don't worry, I'm used to posters like that - been around here a long time Grin

Another cool girl spectacularly missing the point but no doubt getting brownie points with the lads.

Probably IS a lad. Wink

LaserPumpkin · 31/10/2025 15:29

His mum had every right to contact the OP and complain.

Why? The OP isn’t the boss of her husband. The mum should contact the person who made the comment if she wants to complain to anyone.

MarxistMags · 31/10/2025 15:29

Oh FFS !

Could think of much worse people to be married to.

Must be great to be perfect.

Your bar is so low, that it's scraping on the pavement! 😬

BunnyLake · 31/10/2025 15:26

Yes it does! It’s obvious where his brains are. Out of all things in the world he could have said why that? He’s gross.

I bet there are things about your sense of humour people don't like.

Not everything has to be taken seriously and not everything means a man is an sick, porn-obsessed weirdo.

cannynotsay · 31/10/2025 15:28

It’s just disgusting really totally inappropriate

What are you talking about? What "lads"? 😂

DiscoBob · 31/10/2025 15:16

She can't control when and if anyone makes reference to potential availability of pictures of naked women to a seventeen year old.

Gawd I feel sorry for the lad. How chronically embarrassing. But then again why did he tell his mum? Maybe it's cringe but it's not age inappropriate. He's not seven! And it was clearly a joke.

I guess to keep the peace just say 'sorry, it does sound a bit vulgar.' And leave it at that. If you tell your DH he'll probably laugh and mock her. As would your son. Not to her face obviously.

Maybe the 17 year old BOY told his mum because he found the middle aged men referencing porn magazines to him weird and gross. His mum had every right to contact the OP and complain. As I said, lots of middle aged men are like this. Many are still 17 mentally and emotionally. It's true what my mum used to say, 'men never grow up.'

She's right. They don't. I see men in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s, and 80s, chatting up women young enough to be their grandaughter. In their head they're still 25. Problem is, most men have dirty minds, and some of them think they're soooo funny, and that every woman wants them. 🙄

Urgh, it knocks me sick, honestly! Confused

Exactly. All these cool girls banging on about how prudish the mum is are totally missing the point. Who wants to be married to someone who associates any mention of the internet with porn?

It was a joke.

You may not find it funny but it doesn't mean OP's DH is some kind of disgusting, porn-obsessed sleaze Hmm

MN can be SO uptight at times.

starofthecountydown · 31/10/2025 15:26

It was just a quip. If DP said it I would roll my eyes. As would our 17yo, who would make a quick exit. The only answer I would send to the mum is ‘Take it up with DH. I can give you his number.’ Bloody hell.

HelenaWaiting · 31/10/2025 15:25

Why has she complained to you? Tell her to complain to your DH. You're not his mother. It's frankly ridiculous of her to complain to you.

Complete over reaction just ignore.

coxesorangepippin · 31/10/2025 15:24

So he's talking about the fact that he can't masturbate to the computer, instead he'll have to buy page 3? In front of his son??

Arran2024 · 31/10/2025 15:24

You don't call your son's mum when he is 17. Son's must be mortified. And why didnt she contact the dad if she is so annoyed? It is putting OP in an embarrassing position. Utterly ridiculous.

And encouraging his teenage son (and possibly the friend) to buy magazines with naked women in them, no doubt legs akimbo purely for their delectation?

Is that the kind of man you married because I’d be disgusted.

beAsensible1 · 31/10/2025 15:22

she would only know if her son told her so clearly there was an issue. its off colour especially in front of company. shows a massive lack of discernment on your DHs part

Another man whose brains are stuck in his dick. I am so tired of reading about these gross, inappropriate ‘geezers’.

Yeah this. You never get middle aged/older women saying shit like this do you?

(Awaits someone coming along to post about all the potty mouth sex pest women they know/have known.) 🙄
