To admit that maybe I am attractive?

When I was a teenager, I struggled badly with acne, and it completely shattered my confidence. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror. I dated a few people, and sometimes others would comment that I was much more attractive than the guy I was with - saying things like I was “out of his league.” But I never believed them. I always saw myself as pretty average.

Then somehow, I ended up with someone I found incredibly handsome, and I couldn’t wrap my head around why he was drawn to me or thought I was attractive.

Lately though, it feels like something has shifted - like a lightbulb moment. I can finally see myself the way others seem to. And without trying to sound big-headed, I do think I’m fairly attractive. I’ve noticed that people tend to treat me more kindly because of it (which doesn’t really seem fair, honestly). If I went to a bar with friends, I would often be hit on by people who are attractive. Once, I was even approached by a legitimate modeling agency.

It's nice to be attractive but not good to be obsessive about it. Botox, fillers, facelifts etc... there are more important things to think about/ worry about than what we look like.

Slebs · 01/11/2025 02:26

I often tell my cat how beautiful she is, and she really is. But I think she's onto something when she replies, "Thanks, but it's the least interesting thing about me".

Mcoco · 31/10/2025 23:10

Yes same thing happened to me. 😂

Hatty65 · 31/10/2025 21:32

I'm glad you feel more confident now, but honestly - the way people look is the least interesting thing about them.

I could not care less whether other people think I'm fanciable or not.

Ivygold · 31/10/2025 21:19

I’m genuinely pleased to hear someone consider themself attractive. Far too many women and girls seem unhappy or insecure in their appearance, probably made worse now by social media but even before then it’s always been the way. More and more feel pressured to get work done these days. I wish more women would feel about themselves the way you do now. I hope my daughters know that they’re beautiful one day.

Everyone gets old and ugly eventually. Even the truly beautiful. And everyone is fairly beautiful when they're young - so look at yourself with kind eyes and enjoy it!

That’s absolutely untrue…well the ugly part at least. What an ageist comment. There are plenty of attractive people in their 60s, 70s and 80s. If you’ve not had ill health, drink too much or smoked, have looked after your diet and exercised, you just look like an aged version of yourself. If you were attractive when you were young, you are when you’re older too.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 31/10/2025 20:27

Glad for you that you feel better about yourself. Hope this is helpful for you.

Just because you get old (not everyone is lucky enough to) doesn’t mean you’ll get ugly. Yeah you won’t get 20 year olds wanting to fuck you but there’s lots of stunning women who are older. Genuinely attractive people tend to stay that way

Bikergran · 31/10/2025 19:21

Bloody hell, why is she being unreasonable to say she's attractive? What a bunch of jealous, censorious tightarses some of you are!!! I bet you're drop dead gorgeous, OP, get out and flaunt it while you've got it. ❤️

Kerensa70 · 31/10/2025 19:18

No! Old doesn’t mean ugly! My MIL is 85 and beautiful actually, does yoya, walking! Inspirational!

Ah I don't think that's true at all. My mum is 83 and is far from ugly (obviously I love her very much so am not objective however she genuinely still is a nice looking woman).

I of course appreciate it's youth which helps a lot.

My point was more - is it unreasonable to admit to yourself that you are attractive? My internal dialogue has never allowed me to think that

No, not at all, go for it! At the very least, this mindset will do wonders for your confidence, which is essential for getting on in life. Go you! 👏👏❤️

ComedyGuns · 31/10/2025 00:45

This makes me think of that famous phrase “Youth is wasted on the young”.

Changeforsquizzers · 31/10/2025 00:27

HaggisMcHaggisface · 31/10/2025 00:18

But you are wasting now. You'll look back on pictures of you now and think the same. That you were really pretty but you wasted it thinking you weren't!

I wish that were true but I actually am quite hideous now 😭

ComedyGuns · 31/10/2025 00:22

You sound incredibly modest and rather lovely, and yes, you probably are very attractive now. Enjoy but beware letting it ‘go to your head’.

My DH says there’s nothing less sexy than a woman who obviously knows how attractive she is.

mrlistersgelfbride · 31/10/2025 00:22

Enjoy it.
Im 40 now but when I was in my 20s I had all kinds of random men chase me .. literally sometimes 🤣 ..and I loved it and I don’t care.
Good memories.
As long as your are safe and happy.

Changeforsquizzers · 31/10/2025 00:13

I think it’s great OP. Don’t waste your life like me thinking you are disgusting and then look back on photos and realise that you were actually really pretty then but are disgusting now ☹️

Enough4me · 31/10/2025 00:15

I think cat walk models look like they need a big hug and far more calories while the catalogue ones generally look happy.

I use these examples because 'model looks' isn't one type of look. If you look healthy and happy then good for you OP.

It’s not clear what you’re saying, OP. Are you saying people have started to treat you nicely because you’re suddenly aware you’re attractive? Because if it’s just a matter of you being attractive they’d have treated you the same way all along?
