Dd wants to be an artist and is taking part in Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year! This was filmed back in Easter during her school holidays and is being aired tomorrow night. It's terrifying! If you enjoy art, or tv or have a kid and know what it's like to want everything to go well for them, please join me in hoping the judges aren't too mean! www.rubymitcham.com
This is her self-portrait entry.

Remarkable!

WhatWouldRoyKentSay · 28/10/2025 18:48

What talent she has! How proud you must be. Is the show accessible to overseas viewers?

lifeonthelane · 28/10/2025 18:46

WOW! You must be bursting with pride 🥰

You've all been so lovely with your comments. And thanks for following her on insta: https://www.instagram.com/ruby_mitcham/ She doesn't post very often, but that doesn't mean she isn't creating new art. It just means she isn't able to share it currently as it's all for A level and not allowed to be online until that's all done and dusted.

You are quite talented if you're a writer! Sky Arts is a freeview channel - no. 36, so no need to subscribe to anything to get it. We had to figure out how to watch it, as we never watch live tv!

Show quote history

It's Channel 11 on my TV. I don't subscribe to anything so I'm very pleased that Sky Arts is on Freeview.

Nomdejeur · 28/10/2025 18:32

I’m usually quite “meh” about parents showing their children’s “artistic talents” because parents do tend to be a bit blinkered, but those are amazing! The detail, the shading. Good luck to her xx

Dery · 28/10/2025 18:31

We love this show! Will look out for your DD’s work. Amazing self-portrait. Huge congratulations to your DD for getting selected - she completely earned the spot, mind you!

LillyPJ · 28/10/2025 18:30

One of my favourite programmes! Well done to her for being selected in the first place - all the artists on there are good.

KitchenTrollyDolly · 28/10/2025 18:27

Oh WOW! How amazing is that.
I'll be watching, she is very talented.

Teizzz · 28/10/2025 18:27

What time is it on at? I will watch. Her paintings are beautiful. She has so much talent. You must be so proud.

Blueblell · 28/10/2025 18:20

That is fantastic! Enjoy watching

Toydrum · 28/10/2025 18:17

Superb! The best of luck to her.

Loub1987 · 28/10/2025 18:14

Amazing talent, I’m a little bit jealous my 5 year old is currently outstripping my artistic ability 😂. Hope she enjoys the experience of the show x

Apologies if I've got the Freeview channel wrong. It might be 11? But, Sky Arts is definitely available to watch free!
She hasn't finished school yet, she'll be doing her A levels next year - and then, who knows. Artist of the year already have a little mini video out teasing the sitters:

These are AMAZING! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. I'm so glad @halfandhalfchipsandrice mentioned the other portraits or I might've missed the link.

I wish I could watch but I doubt it's available in the US. Good luck to Ruby!
