To share the news that dd will be on TV tomorrow night! Eek!

Dd wants to be an artist and is taking part in Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year! This was filmed back in Easter during her school holidays and is being aired tomorrow night. It's terrifying! If you enjoy art, or tv or have a kid and know what it's like to want everything to go well for them, please join me in hoping the judges aren't too mean! www.rubymitcham.com

Fingers crossed for her!

XelaM · 28/10/2025 20:08

Wow 😮 those paintings are incredible! So rare nowadays to see an actual artist who can paint rather than just promote themselves for some (often literal) rubbish they drop in the corner. Bravo to your daughter 👏🏼

TeenToTwenties · 28/10/2025 20:04

What time is it actually on live please @FriendlyLaundryMonster I have been catching episodes randomly wondering if I gave missed her.

grumpygrape · 28/10/2025 20:03

I have the programme on record and have to snatch some 'me time' to watch but will look out for her and will keep this thread on Watch. 🤗

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 28/10/2025 20:03

Your daughter's work is really something else. She is incredible.

The level of detail of 'Just Shelly' blew me away.

She deserves every success coming her way.

Friendlyfart · 28/10/2025 19:59

Wow, she is amazing!!!

CoucouCat · 28/10/2025 19:57

she is wildly talented!

I will try to tune in to the programme, you must be so incredibly proud

Brassknucks · 28/10/2025 19:56

beautiful art! You just be so proud of her. My DD earlier today put sweetcorn in her nostril and shouted “yellow!” So proud mums all round 🤣🤣

I wish your very beautiful and talented Ruby all the best with her art ❤️

Ellmau · 28/10/2025 19:52

She's amazingly talented.

MrsPerfect12 · 28/10/2025 19:49

@Coffeeishot She has had a few pieces in exhibition, yes. Most recently she's had a diptych accepted for the Society of Scottish Artists' 127th Annual Exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy. She hasn't told anyone that yet!

i saw this episode being filmed, my friend and i spoke to you!

She is so talented, cant wait to watch the episode.

OMG - that's so cool! I wish I knew what you looked like 😂I didn't chat to too many people, as it was quite nerve-wracking as a parent (and I didn't even need to paint anything or talk to judges and presenters and producers!) Dh was a bit more chatty but he thinks there's a good chance the episode could just be about a very stressed dad!

They're still called Guardians. There are new ones chosen every term though, so a slightly different approach.

I see, thank you!

Thank you @FriendlyLaundryMonster I am so annoyed as I don't have an aerial or NOW TV. I do have a sky dish on the wall but I removed the wires coming into my lounge. However I do still have some wires downstairs in the kitchen and have a little spare tv somewhere so might try and see if I can do something with that. I would love to see Ruby on the show.

(Slightly unrelated question, @FriendlyLaundryMonster, are head boys / girls at Gordonstoun not called Guardian anymore?)

Congratulations. How exciting for you both. Her work is truly incredible and I’ll keep everything crossed for her.

MrsWhites · 28/10/2025 19:37

Goodness me, they are incredibly realistic, I had to look at a couple again as I was convinced they must have been photographs.

What an incredible talent she has!

AffIt · 28/10/2025 19:35

Holy shit, her work is amazing: she has an incredible talent for catching personality.

The very best of luck to her! You must be very proud!

Choux · 28/10/2025 19:34

I’ll watch. I find the show so relaxing to watch (as I have never been related to any of the artists!)

what time is it on?
