To boycott Sainsbury’s for their mince packaging!!

Light hearted (ish) but I shop at Sainsbury’s and since they changed their mince packaging I’ve always hated it every time I buy it! It’d be a pain to buy only mince from a different shop so thinking it’s time to part ways!! It’s all so compact together and doesn’t cook as nicely anymore. Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me? Grin Or does anyone have any tips for cooking it?!

It isn’t. Global warming is horrible.

Don't get me wrong, I think this thread of complaints about the texture of mince after a measure has been taken to reduce single use plastic is beyond ridiculous.

But then, mince trays aren't what's contributing to global warming is it?

It doesn't matter, we will all be in the pod eating bugs soon enough anyway

China is doing a lot to reduce plastic waste and global warming and are actually being very proactive. They can see what is coming.

It’s still nothing to make a difference.

It won’t make a bit of difference because of China. But sure.

Because the planet is burning and some of the hysterical comments about a change in packaging to meet targets that are attempting to reduce global warming are ludicrous.

Mad because they throw it back here. Why do you care so much? People are allowed differing opinions

You can recycle the new packaging. It’s collected from our house by the council in the new plastic recycling initiative. All plastic is except for crisp packets, netting and bubble wrap.

And yes we eat very little meat now. Just once or twice a week or none. It’s cheaper and far better for the planet.

You can’t recycle the vacuum packaging, but you could the old trays. It also makes a minuscule difference. If you care that much, why do you eat meat?

Change is hard to bear. In 10 years time if we're all still eating minced beef, no-one will even remember this. Its like when Quality Street and Roses changed to paper wrappers people said they wouldn.t buy them

Skdj8448djf · 24/10/2025 06:09

Zanzara · 24/10/2025 05:48

It's utterly revolting and I refuse to buy it.

A previous poster was right, it's to do with packaging taxes. Another hidden way your food prices are being forced up.

Revolting because exactly the same mince is a different consistency. Ok🤔

I and many others gong find it revolting at all. Many applaud it and Sainsbury’s attempt to reduce plastic. I’d like to see more.

Life is going to change and we’re going yo be inconvenienced due to global warming. There are far bigger things to worry about than consistency of mince due to reducing plastic which is very much needed.

I changed my weekly delivery to Tesco because of things like this. The fruit and veg are so much better at Tesco as well.

MayaPinion · 24/10/2025 05:23

Yes, I hate it too. It tastes simultaneously more gristly and mushy, no matter what I do with it. Waitrose have it about right. Theirs is packaged in a plastic bag type thing but it’s loose not vacuum packed, and there’s no plastic tray.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 24/10/2025 00:27

XenoBitch · 23/10/2025 19:53

Off the top of my head, I think that was burgers.

Ah possibly, yes. So that’s alright then 😀

TwistyTurnip · 23/10/2025 23:15

I don’t buy it. It’s gross.

ChaliceinWonderland · 23/10/2025 21:47

Its disgusting. I get mine from the butchers,

Timeforabitofpeace · 23/10/2025 21:44

Well they’re clearly not customer focused on this issue!

JellyTotsAreYum · 23/10/2025 21:39

TeddySchnauzer · 23/10/2025 21:10

And M&S

Morrisons were doing it in trays as well as Tesco & Marks - haven't bought any for a while though.

I didn't get on with the vac packs - it's too compressed.
I also saved the trays and used them as seed trays for starting off annual plants, so they get a re-use before recycling.

CrushingOnRubies · 23/10/2025 21:23

XenoBitch · 23/10/2025 20:56

Yes! Same here. I make a lovely chill con carne, and the wormy mince (you know what I mean) is the best. Not the squashed vac packed stuff that should be renamed paste instead of mince. It makes a huge difference.

Exactly

@Skdj8448djfnot strands perhaps but defined not mush

@BallerinaRadiobecause it’s more meaty soup and it lacks substance as a result

BallerinaRadio · 23/10/2025 21:20

CrushingOnRubies · 23/10/2025 20:52

I also dislike it. It goes all mushy. It’s fine for burgers and meatballs but when doing bolognese and you want a more defined strand of mince it doesn’t work as well

It works perfectly fine in Bolognese 🙄

TeddySchnauzer · 23/10/2025 21:10

Portakalkedi · 23/10/2025 20:34

Me too, only Tesco seem to do proper packaging now.

And M&S

TeddySchnauzer · 23/10/2025 21:09

@Mummytummy888@GandTtwiceNope M&S still use trays

TaterTots68 · 23/10/2025 21:09

DH and I had a conversation about this a couple of days ago as Lidl use the same packaging (and it's over £7 for a large pack FFS). Anyway we said although it's a pita, we kind of like it a bit lumpy as it's a bit like meatballs...
