To date a 28yo?

Last week I went on a night out with some work colleagues. I got a bit tipsy and ended up flirting with one of my colleagues who is 28! We ended up kissing. The next day I just put it down to an embarrassing event and pretended like it never happened.

We were in a meeting together today and later this afternoon he text me and asked if I wanted to go for a drink. I didn't respond and a bit later he messaged me saying he meant like on a date.

I shouldn't should I? He's just so young.

We're both single, I'm not looking for a serious relationship and I suspect he isn't either (he was previously in a very long term relationship with 2 kids).

There's no concern about dating someone I work with, my issue is purely the age gap.

So I went on the date and had a great time. We've got another one on Sunday.

Yay good for you!

ChewbaccasMrs · 24/10/2025 13:46

Go for it,as long as it won't cause any problems at work.

My DH is 7 years younger than me and we've been together for nearly 20 years now and we have an amazing relationship.

ComfortFoodCafe · 24/10/2025 13:01

Your a bit to old for him op!

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 24/10/2025 12:59

@Cougarintown good for you!! Glad you had a good time.

PresidentMacron · 24/10/2025 11:37

C'est bon pour moi! 😋

Ahhhhh fuck it, go on the date. Life's too short and what's the worst that can happen? You have an enjoyable evening, have some fun and a nice time. If neither of you are looking for anything serious then just go and have a nice date.

Don't over think it, go out and have a nice time.

FurForksSake · 22/10/2025 18:00

What was the old sickening adage? Half your age plus 7?

I wouldn’t due to working together. But when you’ve left, if you find him attractive and aren’t just flattered or whatever then go for it!

Cougarintown · 20/10/2025 22:46

Shit, sorry. I'm 42.

It’s not wrong as such but it’s not exactly a green flag, what are you going to have in common with a 27yr old your on completely different pages in life.

Personally I find it a bit 🤮 but nothing wrong with it really. He’s a “proper” adult as opposed to a teen.

I cant understand why people find this an issue. At 28 he is a full blown adult. This guy has kids, a life, a job. He obviously is semi intelligent and from what ive seen has been respectful in asking the OP for a date. What on earth is wrong with 2 adults having a date?

Go for it. Enjoy it and ignore anyone who isnt supportive.

As a 29 year old I agree with you. I can’t see the issue. 28 and 42 aren’t ages I would consider an issue. In fact a couple of my friends have similar age gaps with their husbands.

I’m a wife, mum, own my home with DH. Definitely not a teenager!

Maybe I’m crazy but I don’t really see myself any different to those in their late 30’s or early 40’s at all.

Hohumdedum · 22/10/2025 13:32

I think I'd find out what he's potentially looking for. But I'd do it!

Excellent! I hope you have fun

Im a good bit older than you, but I'd see someone with the same age gap, but I think they'd exhaust me. 😂😂

Actually YOU and I are the same 'age gap' as you & him 😂
I think it does he'll 'even things out' a bit when you have kids the same age. You're pretty much 'at the sane stage' if not 'the same age'

He's 28 so 10 years above official adult age it depends what you are looking for personally if it was me i wouldn't take it to seriously and maybe have a fling if that's what you want but you never know some age gap relationships work ,the main thing is if you ate both attracted to each other ?

I'm assuming he's attracted to me, given the kissing and the requesting a date.

I had definitely noticed his attractiveness but his age and the fact we work together had stopped me really thinking about it, but he's hot.

I'm actually currently looking for a new job so we wont working together much longer.

I wouldn't.

The age thing would put me right off for starters, but moreso the working together.

This has potential disaster written all over it, and, as ever, he will come out of it looking like a hero and you absolutely won't.

That would be OK if it was someone you never had to see again and didn't move in the same circles as, but this is a colleague.

Noooo. Never shit where you eat

Maisieandmia · 21/10/2025 21:26

I think the fact you have kids the same age makes the age gap less of a big deal, you're more at the same life stage.

tstc1387 · 21/10/2025 21:21

Go for it. My husband is 42 and I’m 29 🤣

Shit, sorry. I'm 42.

Go for it. My friend is 45 and was in an unhappy relationship for 20 years until they split up last year. She is now seeing a 29 year old and he’s lovely! Such a breath of fresh air compared to her ex. I don’t think she’s under any illusions that they’re going to grow old together, but you never know!
