How is this allowed past 8pm, I don't understand.

Cat is terrified, kid took 2 hours to get to sleep only to be woken up 10 min ago by more frigging fireworks.

how on earth is this still allowed??

I hate this time of year.

It's f** triggering. These twats should go and help in Gaza, I'm sure they would not be firing frigging fireworks after that experience !!

thanks for listening :( :( :(

I was woken up just before midnight with some going off close by. Goodness knows by who as we are don’t live in a very diverse area. Thankfully there were no more than a handful, so the dogs settled down pretty quickly, but i was awake for ages.

Humans are able to live their lives quite well enough without fireworks, they aren’t exactly a human right.

Well, animals don’t have the right to live fireworks free either. 🤷‍♀️

Humans are above pets really, nuisance though it may be.

er .. thanks for enlightening me... I know it's Diwali... I live in London. In fact I attended a Diwali party yesterday, but their fireworks stopped at 7pm. Can it just not be kept under control? And kept within some normal hours???

So your cat is only afraid post 8pm?

Why are you banging on about Gaza?

More fool you, if you put animals above humans living their lives.

I didn't realise literally burning money to create huge bangs was essential for living life 🙄

Or maybe some of us can find joy in activities that don’t terrify people and animals? Fireworks are a prime example of the selfishness of humans.

And those activities seem to be sitting alone with a cat.

ExtraOnions · 21/10/2025 07:18

I love Fireworks, I shall be buying fireworks, and having my own party where I let them off.

I have to put up with other peoples Cats & Dogs for 365 days a year. I’m allergic but who cares about that ? Dogs must be allowed in all venues,I love feeding the birds, but had to put up with fledglings being killed be cats this year .. but hey “it’s just what cats do”… and Dog Owners, if you can be bothered picking up your Dog Shit why take it home when you can hang the bag from a tree, or put it on the floor next to an ordinary bin. Not to mention the environmental impacts of feeding your pets and disposing of waste.

I might be anti-social once a year … whilst you lot are anti-social every single day, and then moan at me that your pet is scared.

Newbutoldfather · 21/10/2025 07:16

Loud noise isn’t acceptable after 10pm, and certainly after 11PM.

People seem to have double standards concerning Diwali and bonfire night. Very few people would be forgiving about midnight fireworks on bonfire night, but somehow it is ok in their minds for Diwali.

It is against noise regulations and totally inconsiderate (and is mostly just an ostentatious show of wealth to let £100s of fireworks off over 30 minutes or so).

We don’t need new regulations, just meaningful enforcement of existing ones without fear or favour.

Stormwhatnow · 21/10/2025 07:15

It was all kicking off on the local FB pages about this last night. Our council have included our area in one of their exclusion zones, but only from 31/10 - 5/11. So can't celebrate bonfire night but Diwali is ok. It really was like a warzone.
I personally hate them, always was scared of the noise, used to hide under the kitchen table with the dog when I was a kid. I don't see why we can't have silent ones. I always feel for all the wildlife and pets, must be terrifying for them.

We had some going off at 1am Monday morning! Woke us and the poor dog up
Why do they need to be SO loud and it's not just 1 or 2 days, goes on for weeks
Hate the things

I love fireworks. Great fun... great fun just for a few hours during the year.
I don't love pet cats that are allowed outside killing native wildlife 24 hours a day, every day of the year. (And shitting in other people's gardens) I would love cats to be restricted to their owners' property by law. They do actual harm, rather than (on the whole) inconvenience.
Nb. Pet dogs survived WW2. Many hate thunderstorms. Your pet is your problem.

URGH! This kind of attitude is such bullshit. Who cares about terrifying animals (pets, livestock, wildlife) to death - and YES this does happen regularly. Who gives a shit about children or adults with PTSD, anxiety, health problems etc. as long as you can have your moment of fun. Absolutely selfish.

You live in London - as did I until two month months ago. There is significant noise all night. Between boy racers or delivery drivers with their mopeds or souped up cars, people on nights out shouting and singing in the street as they make their way home, the neighbours having parties, assorted emergency service sirens, the buses hitting that one pothole which was right outside my window, the street sweeping lorries with their "Caution! Vehicle turning left" announcements blaring... Fireworks are the least of the worries when it comes to noise. In my experience it's only quiet-ish between about midnight - 5am.

If you expect peace and quiet in a city after 8pm, you're being a little bit silly.

I live in London and don't expect the city to be quiet after 8pm but don't think it's silly to expect private fireworks not to be going off over various days and at all hours.

Most of the activities you mention e.g. sirens, buses, bin lorries, delivery drivers etc are people going about their work and daily business and are an unavoidable aspect of city life - very different from selfish people setting off private fireworks, IMO.

Libertysparkle · 21/10/2025 07:11

I knew what day it was but had some go off at the back of our house and thought there was a fire.

Then it quietened down. But then I all kicked off again. I think there should be a time limit

Why, because we don’t want our pets traumatised? We are a nation of animal lovers. The wellbeing of dogs etc of our wildlife come before some idiots right to set off fireworks on a random night.

More fool you, if you put animals above humans living their lives.

It's not just that though. The sodding things have been going off every night for the past week and will probably be going off most nights until mid November now.

Great, isn’t it.

WildLimePoet · 21/10/2025 07:09

Here we go. The annual moaning threads about fireworks.

Get over it OP. The world won’t stop for your cat.

Because we enjoy nothing. We have systematically complained our way out of every national celebration.

Dorisbonson · 21/10/2025 06:51

A few fireworks past 8pm on New Years Eve, Diwali, 5th November is really not that bad.

It's infrequent, it causes little to no harm, it doesn't damage others property and it doesn't cost you anything other.

It's not just that though. The sodding things have been going off every night for the past week and will probably be going off most nights until mid November now.

cobrakaieaglefang · 21/10/2025 07:06

Ahh, I had forgotten Divali, that explains fireworks last night. Our dog opened the bedroom door and came in to lay by our beds, normally she sleeps on her sofa in the front room.

Peridoteage · 21/10/2025 07:06

It's literally Diwali, its not a random night. People claim its all year/for weeks on end, in reality there's always a glut of these posts around Diwali, Bonfire Night & NYE.

Do people have quite poor windows or are leaving them open? There are lots of fireworks round here too but as long as we keep them indoors & windows closed neither cat seems to notice, the noise is no worse than a tv. They've never woken the DC.

Staringintothevoid616 · 21/10/2025 06:59

Yamamm · 21/10/2025 06:51

If you had a voting button suggesting it was illegal to use them after 8pm I think that would be what most people can agree on.

Very S Asian community here and for some reason some family have decided to celebrate with a nightly mega mortar bomb thing at 00:30 for three night in a row. They must know they are waking up thousands of people around them. Selfish.

Exactly. I used to live in a heavily Asian populated area, it was like a war zone ditch fireworks, literally ever my night, a week long wedding - fireworks in gardens religious celebration -fireworks in gardens (sometimes in the street), random night- fireworks.

Fireworks should be Nov 5, the Saturdays either side, national celebrations eg, jubilees, all organised displays.fireworks shouldn’t be sold to the public at all.
