Bloody jellycat teabag

AIBU to be completely done with the Jellycat teabag madness? Honestly, who knew a small stuffed teabag could cause such chaos. The minute they come out, they’re gone – poof – straight into the hands of people who don’t even like them, just want to flog them on Vinted for triple the price.

I wouldn’t even care normally, but my daughter has been utterly brainwashed by this Jellycat cult and now apparently her collection will be incomplete without a pretend teabag. Meanwhile, I’m sat ringing around and scanning social media like a mug while Janice from Kent is selling 5 of them for 65 quid a pop.

And don’t even get me started on the Aldi wooden toys. Blink and you’ve missed them – unless, of course, you want to buy them off someone online who’s decided they’re now luxury limited editions.

Can we not just let kids have toys without turning it into a side hustle? It’s a cuddly teabag, not gold bullion.

We were ok financially but my mum said every gift had to be ‘educational’. I still remember the Carebear and Little Pony I would have loved. I am in my fifties and still wonder why she didn’t want to see us happy. It’s of course part of a bigger picture but I love giving my kids presents that make their faces light up. Even though they are now in their 20s!

Surely it’s the same as anything from years ago? Everyone wanted a mr frosty or that Cadbury thing that dispensed mini chocolate etc, there were crazes for putting things on your bike spokes, pots, tamagotchi

jellycat is just the new version, I don’t think children (or teenagers) need teaching a lesson about it!

Yah but I feel like in those days your ma would just go "you're not having it" 😂

I had one friend who had dream phone and she was a local celebrity

Try Vinted. I got my DC’s campfire Jellycat there, new with tags.

That will be fake unfortunately

Some people love to use MN as some kind of online Fight Club.

I think poor old Salem actually wants a jellycat for herself but has missed out. That would explain her rather OTT bitterness and anger about others getting them. Maybe we need to start a campaign #steepyforsalem

Islandgirl68 · 20/10/2025 19:28

@Teasforfears i dont understsnd the fuss either, they are cute, but are over priced even at normal retail price.

Trendyname · 20/10/2025 18:10

I am in 40s and I love Jellycat, though I don’t have any. But they are so cute, so I would say you are unreasonable 😅

No-one on this post has said people can’t enjoy things. Or that it’s bad to collect things.

The bigger issue being discussed (and raised initially by the op) is manipulation by companies which encourages scarcity, reselling and anxiety. And people willingly buying into that ethos.

People need to stop posting ‘well I’m 43 and I have a Jellycat I don’t care what people think’ because no-one thinks anything!

Are we reading the same thread 😲

NotThisShitAgain121 · 20/10/2025 16:44

Never heard of them.

It's really disheartening that even a thread about a toy teabag can bring out such nastiness.

Apologise for what? I don’t think being in a fight over a toy past the age of 5 is acceptable and it’s not something I’d be stating I was proud of years down the line. It’s no different to the people fighting over tvs in Black Friday sales. It is gross. No apology

So you think the poster’s mum should have just handed it over to some other woman trying to snatch it. Just passively handed it over pathetically like a good little woman and not caused a scene?

I don’t like conflict either, but I won’t be walked over and good for this poster’s mum that she wasn’t a pushover either. She didn’t start a fight over the toy, she just finished it. Bloody good for her.

Your dislike of conflict really shines through in your responses here

Actually they have said both

Why do people have to come on a thread to be nasty .
Life is difficult,.. people find joy in different things ..much better a jelly cat than drugs or alcohol
why piss on someones chips .if people are happy ,let them be .
I had Theo Turkey for Christmas last year ..I'm 52 and I don't care what anyone thinks

What my "fucking gross" mum taught "gormless" me to do when I'd got something wrong was to own it and apologise. So I would have gone with something like "Sorry, Carter, I do see that I completely misread that". Is that just not within your reach emotionally? Again, if that was where I was I think my mum would have advised me to just let it go.

How terrible to enjoy something gentle and harmless. I am also a 45 (academic researcher & professional) year old that enjoys Care Bears. For me it is Care Bears. I have actually been gifted tickets for a Care Bear themed afternoon tea by my husband.
OP I hope your daughter finds a genuine Tea Bag for her collection.

I love Care Bears too and I have 3 who live on my bed , I also have Care Bears candles and Care Bears jewellery , I'm 43 and not remotely arsed what people think

This is a great idea. Do you know anyone who can crochet? I wish people would en mass put their foot down with these fads and not accept being taken for fools.

You might say ‘taken for fools’ but it clear from this post that many many people are gladly proffering themselves as fool fodder for these major companies.

Their CEOs are laughing all the way to the bank whilst Susan from Derby rings around shops desperately trying to find a teddy tea bag to spend the money she’s saved on…but hey, it’s life affirming, it gives joy!!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 19/10/2025 21:43

Try reading more than the first line. I said the other mum tried to take him out of my mum's hands which I think most people would understand meant the other woman tried to snatch it from my mum.

Also, I wasn't there, it was a Christmas present, she told me about it later, not sure why you would assume I would have been there whilst she shopped for my Christmas present, so I wasn't "clapping along gormlessly", which I hope isn't something you'd say about an eight year old child under your real name.

And I also said that I would not have been proud of her if she had tried to take it from someone else.

So my post was perfectly clear and my headline for you is to just make sure you've read and understood what you're responding to in future before you start effing and blinding.

I don’t know where you are based, but Bentalls Kingston has a large Jellycat area on its very top floor. If you’re in the area I’d pop there.

I agree, people that buy these toy items purely to sell on and make money, I get it for large logistical / commercial reasons, but to buy a couple of toys to make a fiver or ten pounds off a child is a bit low imo.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2025 07:50

How lovely of you @AngeloMysterioso

there will always be crazes - cabbage patch kids - beanies - jellycats - laboboo

@Teasforfears I hope dd will be happy. Lovely when they get something they really want

I don’t think anyone answered but why is the tea bag not furry soft like a jellycat usually is

looks rough and not the softness

Oh my gosh. What a hero! Saving a 14yr old who can’t currently find a teddy tea bag

What’s wrong with you? Somebody offered to do a kind favour. Sorry you are so unhappy in life I guess.

HughGrantsfurrysquirrel · 19/10/2025 23:39

I bloody love Jellycat (and I'm a tad over 14!!).
I have various JC food items adorning my chunky bedhead. I'm gifted them every birthday and Christmas.
I can't abide tea - although that little teabag is super cute!!
Do keep checking JC official website. X

Shes 14 not 4. Give her the money. Let her go about sourcing one. If she gets one she gets one, if she doesnt she doesnt.

No longer your problem!

I'm 47, and my mom is pretty much housebound caring for my dad (before I come across as a complete cunt, I did relocate down the road to be able to help her) but STILL I am glad she considers it "her problem" to go on Amazon and search for stuff I would like for Xmas, rather than just bank transfering me the money.

Same with my own kid - I could give her a load of cash for Xmas and no doubt she wouldn't complain. But OF COURSE I see it as "my problem" to source things that will make her eyes light up at Christmas, hopefully.

It's normal, I think, to go to some effort to find your loved ones, especially your kids of any age, gifts they would like. It's not a problem really, it's a joy! But still ok to moan lightheartedly about it, as the much-maligned OP has done here.
