Bloody jellycat teabag

AIBU to be completely done with the Jellycat teabag madness? Honestly, who knew a small stuffed teabag could cause such chaos. The minute they come out, they’re gone – poof – straight into the hands of people who don’t even like them, just want to flog them on Vinted for triple the price.

I wouldn’t even care normally, but my daughter has been utterly brainwashed by this Jellycat cult and now apparently her collection will be incomplete without a pretend teabag. Meanwhile, I’m sat ringing around and scanning social media like a mug while Janice from Kent is selling 5 of them for 65 quid a pop.

And don’t even get me started on the Aldi wooden toys. Blink and you’ve missed them – unless, of course, you want to buy them off someone online who’s decided they’re now luxury limited editions.

Can we not just let kids have toys without turning it into a side hustle? It’s a cuddly teabag, not gold bullion.

Surely if parents weren't feeding this fad by ringing round etc. it would die a death quickly.

Sorry, but this is completely on you. Ignore the madness and teach your daughter to do the same. She's 14, not 4, so it's not an age-inappropriate lesson to start to learn about not falling for social media consumer hype and spending money wisely.

If she really must have it, you don't need to participate in the insanity.

Just don't engage.

Have you never been obsessed with a product range just because it’s beautiful/ sentimental/ you just love it? It’s so much fun…the anticipation, finally getting it, displaying it. Life is for shit like this!

People are sharing patterns to knit or crochet your own on Facebook

That one is nicer!

Oh don’t be a miserable sod, we’ve all had that one thing we’re really into, there’s no joy to be found in pissing on someone else’s chips

I’m not doing that. If anything I’m pissing on reseller’s chips. I love cuddly toys, I love hobbies and passions. I don’t love companies restricting product to make a trend and making people panic that they can’t get said product.

Jelly Cats are very soft. Especially the baby ones.

Um, whut? Was this actually a response to my post or have you misquoted? Lol

QuaintMauveCrow · 19/10/2025 00:22

This thread made me laugh out loud when I really needed it tonight! 😂
fingers crossed you eventually get an elusive steepy! Tea bag mania at its best! X

That Vinted one is a fake.

16yo DD has a genuine Steepy. Got it from an independent shop on GCSE results day. A relative made a literal dash to the shop to get one of them before they sold out and got the last one. I love making sure he is sitting nicely on her bookshelf with his legs dangling.

I thought as much re: vinted. I went on to report it but it's been sold!

I think it's a bit shitty to buy them for 25 and sell for 45.

Oh my gosh. What a hero! Saving a 14yr old who can’t currently find a teddy tea bag

Eh? WTAF? Totally and utterly never heard of this 🤷🏼‍♀️

My son has a part-time job in Aldi and his shop has a queue around the block from 6am on the day the wooden toys were launched. He says it was like Black Friday in the US.

I want a Jellycat teabag now. I hadn't heard of them until I opened this thread.

Give it three months and they’ll be available anywhere and everywhere.

Forgive my lack of knowledge about such things (my children are all grown up in their time it was pogs and tinkywinky) but how can owning a few plush toys be outing? genuine question

This made me laugh, I wondered how owning plush toys could be outing too.

Ps DD still has the original Tinkywinky, Dipsy, Lala and Po 🥰

My lock aldi is still full of wooden toys I was in there today.

I don’t know what’s more absurd. That a 14 year old is obsessing over an obscenely priced cuddly teabag (which will no doubt be forgotten when the next must have cuddly thing comes out) or that 8 year olds are swarming Boots and stomping their feet into being bought £40 anti ageing cream they categorically don’t need.

Is it Snapchat/tiktok? Is that where all this shite is originating?

Frenetic monetising of a cheap (crap) product where artificial scarcity has been created is just bonkers. The more scarce it is then the more of a “status symbol” it becomes right? If there is peer pressure about her having a stuffed bloody toy… what is she going to do? Post a couple of insta or snapchats with it then it’ll be shoved in a cupboard?

🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱

I’ve never understood this jellycat craze. They’re all hideous and cost a fortune. Why the fuck would anyone want a plush egg?

Jelly Cats are very soft. Especially the baby ones.

I’m 45 and have a Jellycat teddy bear. Had it for 15 years. The world is a fucking disaster and our kids frequently grow up too soon. Then along come some knobs to complain when we let them be kids for a little bit longer. 🙄

I'm in my 60s, I have a capybara and an amusable capybara

I genuinely hope your DD gets a steepy - I’ve been hunting for one for a friend who is a tea jenny but they are very elusive! My very small JC collection that sit on my headboard they all have a significant meaning which would be too outing to share and my DD has 3 JC which all have significant meanings too

Forgive my lack of knowledge about such things (my children are all grown up in their time it was pogs and tinkywinky) but how can owning a few plush toys be outing? genuine question

Username12284949 · 18/10/2025 23:34

Have a look for the Facebook page it’s called something like Jellycat official genuine buyers and sellers. People are always updating on there with shops that have stock and it seems a legit selling page from what I’ve seen. Proof has to be uploaded before accepting any sales.

I’ve just went on to doubt check the name of the group they actually changed the name of the group to Jellycat UK “the plush life” genuine collectors. If you search steepy in the group there’s a full thread dedicated for people to comment on shops that have stock etc

I hope you manage to get one

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 18/10/2025 23:34

What is the difference between a fake cuddly teabag and a real cuddly teabag?

Caravansandfestivals · 18/10/2025 23:33

There are loads on eBay. Some
are fake but there’s plenty that are not. HTH

kierenthecommunity · 18/10/2025 23:32

It would be dead easy to make one of your own that had more charm.

Not if you have zero knitting or crochet skills it wouldn’t
