What’s your prediction of the next cause the ‘activists’ are going to move into, after Gaza?

Dangeos · 18/10/2025 17:56

Seems like they’re getting bored of Palestine now that it’s a bit awkward talking about Hamas killing Palestinians in the streets.

so what do we think the next big cause is that they’re going to move onto? Do we think they'll finally bother to start talking about the awful crisis in Sudan? Or is there a trendier topic emerging?

The 'rebuilding" of Palestine. What does that mean? You mean Gaza I assume.

And remedial education for Israeli "perpetrators" (so what, reeducation camps is your suggestion? We've heard that one before...) but apparently it's all ok with the Palestinian perpetrators? They are just loving and kind and only resisting oppression. You know, the ones who are currently executing their rivals in the street? When previously they threw their rivals from the roofs?

Perhaps it'd be good if the Palestinians focused on building a democratic and inclusive society and the institutions of state if they REALLY want to achieve a state of their own. But that's kinda boring and hard work and not exactly as romantic as fighting imperialism.

I agree with you on the work needing to be done (though they are already a recognised state as I’m sure you are aware). I think the damage done to the Israelis is often overlooked though while the difficulties the Palestinians face are rather more obvious. You may feel outraged at the suggestion the Israelis will need help to recover after the atrocities that have been committed but nonetheless the members of the IDF who committed them will be back in your homes, schools, synagogues, streets and communities. These are people who have reached a level of horror and seen and done things most of us will never have to face up to. They will not be healed without recognition and help. Pretending it can all go back to how it was is beyond foolish.

Celibates. They must have safe spaces away from anything that might trigger the wrong response in their bodies like seeing women's ankles or men's collar bones.

Mealy82 · 21/10/2025 16:13

We've seen the protests and moral panics come and go over the last few years - Brexit, Covid, BLM, climate change, Ukraine, trans and Israel. In some cases they arguments were absurd, in others the cause might have had virtue but the far left did it no good by making the loudest noise from the most insane base.

I wonder if the next big thing will be something quite different: It'll be demands that anyone richer than them (ie £10 million to billionaires) pay much higher rates of taxation to fund them not working and taking medication for their mental health issues (particularly ADHD). The left openly despises the working class and poor now, but they need to have a reason to tax the rich heavily, and that could well be it.

After all, everything wrong in the world is down to people with more wealth than you and mental health

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/10/2025 21:38

That's rubbish. Why would you tell yourself such lies?

A recent example.. haven’t heard any of them marching against Hamas publicly executing Gazan children in streets.. where’s the outrage and chanting?

Greedybilly · 21/10/2025 15:56

What a nasty sneery post. What do you do to make the world better OP?

Well I would imagine there will be more focus on Israeli war criminals and reparations and supporting the rebuilding of Palestine. There will have to be remedial education and therapy for Israeli perpetrators and their society because people who have witnessed and participated in horror will be damaged. So the focus will lift from “Gaza” in that presumably the bombing will be stopped, and move on to building anew. If that can be achieved then I think the same can be achieved elsewhere.

68k dead including 18k children. Largest number of child amputees in the world. Aid agencies thwarted at every opportunity. Silencing of journalists. But yeah, thankfully, nothing really terrible happened there and anyone who objected was just trying to be trendy.

I think no one has described the particular horrors of this war better than james elder.from the unicef. As I've said elsewhere on mumsnet. Even if you dont read or watch anything else on gaza please do watch this interview of james elder on the rest of politics. He also goes into a number of differences between gaza and other conflicts around the world (which in my opinion also dont get enough air time or compassion)

No one claims that war isn't horrific or that it isn't terrible (just like October 7 was terrible and horrific).

But sadly we live in a world where these things are happening around the world and, yet, Gaza is the only issue that seems to be worth protesting and boycotting about.

Plus the demonstrations are not really about achieving peace, they're about destroying Israel. If I remember, the mantra was "Ceasefire now". OK, so there's a ceasefire and yet that's not good enough.

And even more so, if it was all about protecting Palestinians - why no outrage over Hamas executing dozens of civilians in the street, including children?

Why were there no protests to protect Palestinians when it was Hezbollah who was slaughtering them?

TheSandgroper · 21/10/2025 14:55

The Nigerian hostages? Nope.

The Yazidi hostages? Well, the IDF pulled one out from Gaza last year so that proves eleven years of slave trading but, nope, nothing to see here, either.

Oh, I know, that every evolutionary biologist knows is to be believed when they say big gametes means female and small gametes means male. But that would leave a trail of hurty feels so probably not.

So, I dunno, really.

I didnt have to go through anything, just searched your username and "genocide".🤷‍♀️. Weird for you to pretend you couldn't give a toss about Israel or any middle eastern politics beyond women's rights in Afghanistan when your posting history says otherwise.

My posting history is almost entirely FWR.

So when did I complain that threads should be deleted? The closest I can find is when I can only assume I was called a liar from the context of my reply because the post was deleted, I said I wanted the slur withdrawn not the post.

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/10/2025 14:48

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/10/2025 14:43

You must have had to go through a lot of FWR posts. Good job I don't post on books as often as I lurk on the threads there. Bit weird to AS someone for the heinous crime of not agreeing with you but it is 2025 I suppose

For someone who couldn't give a toss about Israel or any middle eastern politics beyond women's rights in Afghanistan you post a fair bit on this forum denying the genocide in Gaza and complaining about Mnet not deleting the posts where it's discussed.

Edited

Coming back to this. Could you please tell me where I've complained about mumsnet not deleting posts? Because I've done an AS on myself and nothing is coming up. I'm perfectly happy to be shown when I've done this but it's a very odd remark.

I find it very, very hard to believe they actually care.

What are you on about?!

I don't think you get to decide what constitutes a genocide or not, unless perhaps you head up the ICJ?

A high number of expert scholars in genocide believe it constitutes one based on the legal definition. But you apparently know best 🤔

Let's see what the court says in January shall we.

Did you ask the posters claiming there's definitely 100% a genocide if they head the ICJ or is it just anyone who disagrees with you?

If it is genocide by applying some broad definition, then there are many active genocides but somehow one genocide is the only one that seems to count.

sabababa · 21/10/2025 13:46

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/10/2025 08:48

They'll probably just stick to Gaza for a while longer, it's the current omnicause fixation. I'll tell you one thing they'll never protest in favour of if the rabble I had the misfortune to be caught up in have any say - more soap.

In all seriousness though, I feel a shudder of revulsion every time someone says genocide about what was a fairly minor war with a relatively low number of deaths. It's so offensive and trivialises actual genocides that are going on now. But then there are an awful lot of words being used as the complete opposite of what they mean. Like peaceful for the hate marches, or anti-racist.

They ALWAYS have used holocaust terminology to describe the Palestinian situation. It's entirely intetional.

Before 7/10, Gaza was apparently the Warsaw Ghetto or an open air concentration camp which we now see is completely false.

Israelis are zioNAZIS who are of AshkeNAZI origin

Zionism is a white superemacist movement (i.e Nazism)

And then all the little slogans they love

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 21/10/2025 13:46

Oh and apparently you care about facts, yet carefully cherry pick them to suit your argument.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 21/10/2025 13:44

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/10/2025 10:26

Dear me! I couldn't give a toss about Israel or any middle eastern politics beyond women's rights in Afghanistan etc. I do care about facts though. An independent committee who says eg a fertility clinic in the bombing zone means Israel committed genocide by restricted births is just sheer nonsense. It really is. And of course people are scared and unhappy and at risk during wartime, it's terrible but that's not genocide either. The same would apply to Palestine's actions and with credible evidence but I guarantee they'd be up in arms if there was a committee for it. I can't really believe I'm having to argue this.

And others, such as the UK Govt, have found that it's not genocide

it's funny because I remember when the Tamil genocide was going on in Sri Lanka and these poor desparate Tamils were stopping the traffic in London. But don't remember any of the left or the Muslim community marching against Sri Lanka or boycotting Sri Lanka.

More recently, Myanmar committed gencoide against the Muslim Rohingya but didn't see any Muslim extremists bombing Buddhist temples.

And if we use the more liberal definition of gencoide, where are the marches against the UAE which is funding the genocide in Sudan? Where are the boycotts of Chinese goods for the genocide of the UIghurs? Where are the flags of DRC to protest the genocide there? Why is no one protecting the genocide and forced displacement of Armenians of Ngorno Karabach?

Personally, I think this obsession with calling it genocide is all to do with holocaust guilt. You want to minimize the holocaust because you feel guilty you let it happen (in Brtiain's case, yeah, you took some Jews from Germany but only kids because they wouldn't be so....Jewish - you left the parents to die, you didn't bomb to train lines to Auchwitz because it wasn't a military target etc etc but still better than the oh so holy Irish who sided with the Nazis)

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/10/2025 13:32

Have you done an AS? That's a bit sad really. I'm a very dporadic poster and I tend to hop on threads that are in active, I don't think I actually post that often on the bear pit that's AIBU, should I start? But then I'd fall foul of the AIBU police like I just have. I posted on this AIBU thread because of the thread title, I have a personal reason to despise the hate mobs.

Although I've seen the usual suspects on Church Street in town waving little placards saying there's a genocide going back years, maybe decades. So the accusations ring as hollow now as they do then.
