I can't even think of a reason why this card should exist. And I was amazed to see it being sold in Sainsbury's of all places.

It’s one thing for Grandparents to “spoil” grandchildren. It’s a problem for me when they say “don’t tell mummy” because my children are raised to know that they shouldn’t have secrets with adults. It’s basic safeguarding. It’s not that the grandparents are abusing them, but it blurs the lines about when it is ok to keep things from mummy and daddy, and when it’s not.

Grandparents who give children sweets etc and say “don’t tell your parents” are part of a wider problem, but many won’t see it this way unfortunately.

I’d be livid if any of the grandparents/uncles/aunts told my children to keep things from me, and I raise my children to know that they can tell me things and they won’t get in trouble.

I find the card stupid and pointless, but I couldn’t get worked up about it. Wouldn’t buy it, don’t find it funny, but I could say that about 80% of greetings cards probably.

That is very important point. I remember being in hospital at the age of 5 or 6 or so and the nurses taking away (probably for sound reasons) the sweets my parents gave me, and telling me not to tell my parents they had done so. I still remember how stressful this was. It is a very thoughtless thing to tell children, as well as dangerous.

As my kids would say it's not that deep bro

Its so funny... people are looking to take offense at everything...almost as if they aren't grown up enough to be a rounded thinking adult. Hopefully common sense will emerge sooner rather than later. Tedious delicate flowers.

ilovepixie · 16/10/2025 14:59

What’s the problem with the card?

defrazzled · 16/10/2025 14:59

get over yourself, unclench, do you think that card is causing danger to children? 😂

😂

Especially if she is on the in-laws side 😆

How about. “What happens at my mother’s house is perfect! At his mothers house is toxic”

Dollymylove · 16/10/2025 14:57

Some strange posts on MN today. Im starting wonder if its April 1st 🤣

Starlight1984 · 16/10/2025 14:56

OonaStubbs · 16/10/2025 14:24

Would they sell a card saying "What happens at Grandad's, stays at Grandad's"?

I mean, we once bought my mum a naff plaque thing for the kitchen which said "mum knows best". I don't think my dad was outraged though.... 🤔

Starlight1984 · 16/10/2025 14:55

CurlewKate · 16/10/2025 14:42

It’s a joke. Would you rather it said “What happens at grandma’s is automatically wrong” -which is the Mumsnet mantra!

Especially if she is on the in-laws side 😆

Unicorn34 · 16/10/2025 14:54

And this type of comment is why many in this country are too scared to speak anymore!

Nah, I'm more disturbed that people buy actual cards for their pets 😂

where did you get that from?

Would they sell a card saying "What happens at Grandad's, stays at Grandad's"?

And why not? It's a 'you' problem.

My grandad was my favourite person in the world. He spoilt me rotten, spent so much time with me explaining things, teaching me to ride a bike, to read, reading me stories himself, taking me for long walks, train-watching, talking to me. He didn't treat me as a 'baby', really talked to me, and always had time for me, never chased me away. And he bought me everything I wanted, but that's not the point. God, I miss him.

My own dad is a bit more reserved and doesn't have such connection to my DD, but they love each other, and both him and my mum also spoil her rotten and are good grandparents.

Not all men/family members are perverted pedos, you know.

There are worse cards to complain about in Sainsbury's - loads with words I wouldn't want small children to read. Quite disgusting for a family supermarket.

Probably not, because traditionally it's grandmas who are seen as being the ones to spoil their grandkids.

Eye rolling here
id have given that to my grandma or even my cousin! I think it’s cute. Nothing bad happened at my grandmas so I would never have thought anything bad.
