I can't even think of a reason why this card should exist. And I was amazed to see it being sold in Sainsbury's of all places.

Why? Some of us don't have ANY family, and I mean ANY family. My pets are my world. My parents are dead, I have no kids and my brother isn't speaking to me. I'm more disturbed that people find the need to be so judgemental of us 😢

It is no more unreasonable than sending cards to or from one year old children; dogs will have more grasp of the transaction if only at an emotional level, and it is largely for the adults. Same applies to infant baptism for that matter.

Why in particularly ‘of all places sainsburys’?As opposed to Tesco or Waitrose?

Surely if the card was in Waitrose it would be “Whatever happens at Grandmothers, stays at Grandmothers”.

MarketSt · 16/10/2025 16:01

The grandad comments are surprising.

In fact it’s actually my Dad that was guiltier of spoiling my DC more. My mum seemed to recognise that maybe some days toddlers could have TOO many smarties. And my grandad was the same with me.

In DHs case it’s his mum who’s the sweetie person, but on my side of the family it’s more the men.

My grandad was the kindest, gentlest man. Nearly died twice in the war, so the idea of his grandkids having too much of anything just wasn’t even in his radar to be an issue.

My dad just got sheer joy from making my DC happy. Which was sweet as he was pretty strict with me, but seemingly never left a supermarket without something for DC. He or my mum were forever texting “we’ve bought DC a present” or “found an EVEN BIGGER tube of smarties”

While I think the card is pretty naff, I’m very grateful to live in a world where my immediate reaction to it is that it’s about kids getting too many sweets.

Pretty sure my child’s taste of birthday cake on his first birthday will not actually be his first experience of cake/sugar due to shenanigans at Grandma’s but we’re all going to act like it is 🎂

Emptyandsad · 16/10/2025 15:56

The phrase that I know is 'you're at your uncle's and your auntie's blind', meaning your uncle is going to spoil you and your auntie, who might be stricter, won't know because she can't see all the treats you're getting. It never had connotations of abuse or paedophilia. Just that your parents were necessarily stricter than your other relatives who really wanted to spoil you as a way of expressing their love

It's a long standing joke. Best lighten up. 🙄

Problem is there, it never just stays at Andy’s. The silly bastard likes to send emails.

😂

Get a life op. Do you know what a joke is….

OonaStubbs · 16/10/2025 14:24

Would they sell a card saying "What happens at Grandad's, stays at Grandad's"?

Give over.

And I say that as someone that WAS abused by their step-grandfather and was scared into keeping it a secret. Because I realise that my reality was an anomaly and most grandads are fabulous, loving men who would never harm a hair on their granchild's head. I'm sorry if you share my story which is why you are so upset by the card but if that is the case, please seek help and don't look for darkness in the lighthearted.

Dweetfidilove · 16/10/2025 15:52

That was quite a leap!

I think we need the UN on this

Dear Mr Guterres
Ignore Israel - Palestine, Nigeria, Syria, Yemen, Eritrea, Afghanistan, etc. please sort out the real issue: this greetings card.
Thank you.
Lots of love x

MummytoE · 16/10/2025 15:51

All jokes aside it's really disheartening that there are people out there who try to turn everything sinister

eatreadsleeprepeat · 16/10/2025 15:50

Am deeply disturbed by the random capital letters!

Try and get it on Moonpig.

They're already on Scribbler. Loads of them. It's where I get all my cards from 😀

Catsknowbest · 16/10/2025 15:47

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 16/10/2025 14:16

Nah, I'm more disturbed that people buy actual cards for their pets 😂

I don't do that but I do make sure my husband gets a birthday card from the cat 🤣

Brilliant! 😂

Greggsit · 16/10/2025 14:32

No, but they don't. do they, so it's completely irrelevent. They don't sell a card that says "What happens at Prince Andrew's stays at Prince Andrew's" either.

It's a lighhearted joke. And it's not based on sexual abuse, it's based on "What happens in Vegas". You're completely overreacting.

Problem is there, it never just stays at Andy’s. The silly bastard likes to send emails.

AllYoursBabooshkaBabooshkaBabooshkaYaYa · 16/10/2025 14:17

Absolutely horrific.

Email the CEO of Sainsburys immediately.

I can't believe they would sell a card with a joke on it. Disgusting.

😂

Usyam · 16/10/2025 15:45

Eating a load of sweets presumably?

I don't really see the issue.

GreatUserName · 16/10/2025 15:45

I'm trying to figure out who it's supposed to be for?
The child to the grandparent or vice versa?
