Does anyone else feel like this about Gaza/Israel?

I know it sounds awful, but I’m desperate for a break from Gaza. I feel like we’ve had 2 straight years of hearing about absolutely nothing else. It feels like you can’t switch the radio on, or open Facebook, or even pop to the shop without hearing chants of PALESTINE and having flags waved in your face. It’s been absolutely relentless, and wildly disproportionate compared to other conflicts and atrocities around the world.

Of course it’s hideous that so many civilians have been killed, in particular children. But it feels like Palestine truly believes it is the only population who suffered during the 1940s and is the only country to ever lose territory or be reshaped by global events. I feel like everyone else adjusted to their new normal, for the sake of peace, while Palestinians just continue what seems like an infinite grudge which is then met with harsher repressions by Israel as they have to defend themselves.

It’s utterly exhausting the globe and I have zero hope they will now smell the coffee and take the opportunity to kick Hamas out because ultimately they don’t want peace. Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing, and I think it’s very unlikely they will ever be willing to move on from past events.

AIBU to think we now just need to leave them to it for the sake of all involved?

Sure, but you're saying you're bored of hearing about it as if that alone might be a reason for them to stop talking about it.

If you think that the media should be talking more about other stories instead, then by all means, make the case for why you think those other stories are more important than Gaza.

What you don't seem to understand is that the news isn't reported for your entertainment, and they don't need to keep coming up with new stories just to pique your interest.

What is it reported for then, if just 1 issue is relentlessly covered and even worse atrocities are barely mentioned?

No justice was served to members of the IRA either. The world is awash with war criminals and killers who walk free and even retain their leadership for the sake of ‘peace’.

Wow, how horrible that you're making excuses for child murderers to not receive justice.

The IRA did not murder 20,000 children over a two year period. They're not in any way similar.

They also didn't murder and take hostage tens of thousands of paramedics, doctors and nurses.

What do you think I’m suggesting if the Gaza news is toned down? Just silence? Of course that means more reporting on other issues. That’s the logical consequence of what I’m saying - I want to hear the NEWS (from around the world) - not JUST endless Gaza

Israel is involved. That's why we see this never-ending coverage. If it would be two African countries, two Middle-Eastern countries duking it out or China committing some atrocities - we'd get a puny mention somewhere in the middle of BBC page and 99% of population wouldn't give a shiny shit or wouldn't even know about it.

There are various crises in Sudan, Mali, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Myanmar, war in Ukraine is still going on and I'm sure there are more. How many have you heard about and/or care? I googled it. Vaguely heard about Sudan only. Well and Ukraine one is widely-known, obv.

I find it very odd that there are several areas of the world, such as Nigeria, Sudan and China, where there are mass killings going on. Far more people have been killed in those countries than in Gaza. Apparently in two of those places they unequivocally meet the criteria for genocide.

And yet there is absolutely nothing on the BBC about this. Almost noone knows that these genocides are happening.

There have been marches about sudan, there were marches to end SAR in nigeria , there's been protest outside the embassy of DRC and Ethiopia. Its even been on the news?

You could also write to foreign office but they would respond that they are not arming the RSF, but you can lobby for sanctions against Ethiopia, as far as i'm aware the Nigerian government isn't funding terrorists in Nigeria unless you have different info?

There is a worsening famine in sudan and you can donate here via the world food programme

Actually I teach young souls who have fled from Sudan so am well educated on that also.

The perpetrators of the genocide in Gaza are known but no justice will be served by the US, UK or anyone.

Are you very young OP? The news cycle focusing on one event is not new. Off the top of my head - dessert storm, 9/11, second gulf war, Syria, crimea, Ukraine now Gaza. Since the advent of 24 hr news cycle they have always chosen a conflict for long term focus.

Be Thankful we now live in an era you can now get news from different sources if you want different stories.

No, I’m mid 30s. I remember the Iraq war, Afghanistan war, ISIS, Ukraine… none of them received such sustained high volume coverage. I remember the Stop the War March which even with I think 1 million people? Was sadly not successful.

I agree with you about the idiots shouting 'to the river to the sea' i.e. kill every Jew possible. I too am angry - Hamas started a war by committing an atrocity and you'd think Israel had done it! And where is the ongoing nightmare of Yemen (same lot as Hamas causing the war - Houthis), the horror and rape-fest of Sudan? Even Ukraine has fallen off the radar. I despair.

Transparent. You don’t want to hear anymore about it but all the fault is in the Palestinian side and Israel has done no wrong? Not convincing.

You must’ve missed the post where I called it a genocide and said I wouldn’t support the creation of Israel if it were to happen tomorrow.

Ukrainian flags went out of fashion and were replaced with Palestinian flags. Just people virtue signalling that 'they care' about some conflict on the other side of the world which is nothing to do with them, without actually doing anything about it.

When people put the Ukrainian flags on their houses I hoped Ukrainian refugees would knock on their front doors asking for money and supplies and maybe even housing. At least then for these narcissistic virtue signallers lessons would be learned when saying no to their every request got too embarrassing.

Edited

My experience has been different - Homes for Ukraine successfully enlisted 100,000 Brits who offered their homes and put their money where their mouth is. There are quite a few around here. The Ukraine supporters have been very focussed on practical support and not just marching and shouting obscenities about Russia.

I feel I should be able to keep some kind of awareness about the world around me without being utterly bombarded by 1 issue. And in any event, even trying to catch a train here means you can’t avoid it as there is a permanent protest outside the station.

I agree with you...obviously Gaza is a big thing but so is Ukraine and our many UK issues.

it'll be interesting to see where the pro-Palestinian protest movements go from here, whether they give much thought to the possibility that some of their activism could piss people off or even just desensitise them enough to become counterproductive. I think it's unlikely that they'll turn their hand towards protesting about Palestinians being killed by Hamas

They'll no more care about Hamas killing Palestinians than they do about all the other conflicts, @NikkiPotnick - firstly because it doesn't involve jews to hate, and also because I doubt many could even find them on a map

As for the tedious (and too often hateful) marchers, it'll probably be "they're not doing enough to rebuild Palestine" next and I doubt much will stop them except the upcoming poorer weather

Not such a fun day out if they're getting cold and wet, which is doubtless why Just Stop Oil, Extinction Rebellion and the rest tended to tail off in winter

I think they’ll fizzle to nothing or jump back onto trans rights (not the religious among them, obviously). Having an opinion on future developments requires a much more complex understanding than simply ‘fuck Isr*el’

Do you know how algorithms work??

You don’t sound educated on this subject at all. You can choose to switch off the news if you don’t want to hear or read about it anymore but doing so is perpetuating your ignorance on the topic

How does being more, or less informed on the topic make you a better or worse person?

Rattanlamp · 13/10/2025 11:46

Franpie · 13/10/2025 11:43

That’s your algorithm. My instagram is awash with fashion and podcast videos.

You keep watching, reading and listening to the war on Palestine and so that’s what you are being fed.

I get my news from a variety of sources. I listen to BBC’s Global News Podcast every morning and The Europeans news podcast every week. Most days I also listen to Woman’s Hour.

Try broadening your news sources rather than moaning on MN about being completely bored by the constant news of genocide that you are actively seeking out.

Amazing response, no notes

Instagram is awash with Hamas apologists. The trendy new line is ‘they’re the resistance!’ . I don’t even remember the IRA taking hostages but okay.
