Does anyone else feel like this about Gaza/Israel?

I know it sounds awful, but I’m desperate for a break from Gaza. I feel like we’ve had 2 straight years of hearing about absolutely nothing else. It feels like you can’t switch the radio on, or open Facebook, or even pop to the shop without hearing chants of PALESTINE and having flags waved in your face. It’s been absolutely relentless, and wildly disproportionate compared to other conflicts and atrocities around the world.

Of course it’s hideous that so many civilians have been killed, in particular children. But it feels like Palestine truly believes it is the only population who suffered during the 1940s and is the only country to ever lose territory or be reshaped by global events. I feel like everyone else adjusted to their new normal, for the sake of peace, while Palestinians just continue what seems like an infinite grudge which is then met with harsher repressions by Israel as they have to defend themselves.

It’s utterly exhausting the globe and I have zero hope they will now smell the coffee and take the opportunity to kick Hamas out because ultimately they don’t want peace. Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing, and I think it’s very unlikely they will ever be willing to move on from past events.

AIBU to think we now just need to leave them to it for the sake of all involved?

I’m bored if it because it’s utterly depressing that people have been gaslit to believe Israel is the enemy. Hamas are 100% to blame for this. Israel has been providing aid, and Hamas won’t allow it through. Hamas release the stats of which most are not certified. Hamas release the pictures which are later verified as propaganda

and gullible people go round spouting genicude: nonsense

I will not be derailing the thread to talk about Ireland. Wish I’d never mentioned it

Me too but then it does serve to underline your specific bigoted stance and lack of interest in a narrative that doesn't serve you

No, it's derailment for everyone.

What about all the 'look at Sudan' posts. That's derailment.

Yep, 4000 bombs, 25000 dead, yep questionable morally. And similar is happening daily in Gaza and has done for 2 years at least. I'd hope if the allies had kept that up someone would have done something.

25,000 people have been killed per day in Gaza? Through fire bombing?

Do you know how many official social media accounts Netanyahu and the IDF have?

And how many millions Israel has spent on YouTube ads?

The New York Times have reported on Israel creating fake social media accounts.

So the idea that it's Palestinians doing more social media is laughable.

I don’t follow the NYT or Israeli newspapers.

No, it’s chicken and egg. People are as obsessed as they are because of the coverage - because Palestinians and Hamas have been very focussed in social media campaigns, both those showing graphic slaughter but also slightly manipulated videos to cast doubt over everything that isn’t Hamas and their absolutist beliefs.

In a way you’ve given yourself away there. You should have ‘heard enough about Gaza’ through emotional fatigue and a desire for the war to end. It’s like the left have an insatiable appetite for self righteousness and Gaza provides a bottomless well - so in that sense, you’ll never have ‘had enough’ of it.

So you can quote my history to prove your point? A history you clearly know piss all about but those of us who lived it can't tell you our side? Interesting. So do you have a list of viewpoints and atrocities you ARE happy to hear about?

Utter nonsense.

I haven't "had enough" of hearing about Gaza because the conflict has not yet been resolved. Of course I want the fucking war to end. I just don't expect it to go away because I'm getting bored of hearing about it.

Hamas say it’s over.
Israel say it’s over.
Egypt say it’s over.
All other Muslim majority countries in the region say it’s over.

Nor to the British armed forces who committed war crimes on northern Irish civilians during my own childhood. I had a patient recently who was a soldier in northern Ireland who when he heard my name shed an actual tear over the atrocities in my community that he and his comrades were forced to commit. Poor chap would only have been in his 20s and has yet to recover from what they were ordered to do in the 80s 45 years later.

Was Germany levelled and the extermination of all German citizens attempted to now allow a single child to grow to be a potential Nazi? Because yes, if that's how the allies had reacted they would I deed be to blame

So we were the baddies in WW2? And responsible for the mass killing of German citizens, who technically hadn’t touched a hair on our heads?

No justice was served to members of the IRA either. The world is awash with war criminals and killers who walk free and even retain their leadership for the sake of ‘peace’.

The people ordering the attacks and deciding how to conduct themselves are responsible for their own actions

Well, not least because many people do consider it to be important and they want to be informed about what's going on.

I don't disagree that there should be more coverage of other events alongside the coverage of Gaza e.g. what's going on in Sudan. However, that isn't because I've had enough of hearing about Gaza, which seems to be the crux of your argument.

It's tragic for the innocent victims, especially children, but it's important to remember the responsibility for the devastation of Gaza lies entirely with Hamas.

What is it reported for then, if just 1 issue is relentlessly covered and even worse atrocities are barely mentioned?

Unnecessary. She's not really making herself out to be the victim, she's talking about this conflict compared to loads of others.

Oh I totally expected these responses - that the only options in life are to be Gazan, or to be elsewhere but be relentlessly subjected to endless very angry and graphic coverage for years without complaint. It’s part of how black and white the whole issue is to them.

Hopefully you'll get the break you need soon. There has been loads of news coverage but weirdly none of it has focused on the real victim which turned out to be you.

Rattanlamp · 13/10/2025 12:25

I usually enjoy following global affairs and am not easily fatigued by something, but honestly to have a break from news about Gaza you would have to not set foot in the outside world or switch your radio on etc - it feels that extreme. If I click on any article about politics, the comments are just ‘BUT WHAT ABOUT GAZA???’ ‘WHY ARE YOU FOCUSSING ON THIS AND NOT ON GENOCIDE???’ Etc

They're absolutely unhinged

OP posts:
Amberlynnswashcloth · 13/10/2025 12:16

Its a reminder that news reporting is bias. "Global news" never gives the full picture of what is actually happening around the world. There are always atrocities and injustice that are conveniently ignored for political motives (or lack thereof).

I think its fine for you to have a break from the coverage of Gaza. Its awful what's happening but you can't do anything about it while making your coffee or driving to work and you being depressed all day about world events won't make things better for them.
