To ask if most straight men are attracted much younger women?

Had a depressing moment at work today, male colleague played a Jimmy Carr stand-up clip on his phone and it went along the lines of “if I had to pick my favourite child it would be my neighbour’s hot daughter.” The other men with him laughed at it. I couldn’t help feeling a bit nauseous and it’s made me question whether many older straight men actually do fantasise about girls in their late teens or whatever. Perhaps I have been naive to think it was something that just appealed to a minority of perverts. One or two of them have daughters too and it just strikes me as odd that they could even laugh at a joke like that. Am I naive to feel this way?

I think most men find 16 year olds beautiful and in a way desirable . Of course they do , the girls are fizzing with oestrogen and this triggers the urge to mate. BUT many of them would not attempt even casual flirting because it would seem sleazy or disrespectful or pathetic, or perhaps because they have mature relationships with women closer to their own ages, or daughters around that age who they wouldn’t want to be hit on by other men. 16 is the age of consent in this country so we can’t call people perverts for finding that age group sexy.

Yes we can!. It's gross, sixteen year olds are still kids!.

IsadoraQuagmire · 09/10/2025 10:51

Well of course they are! Societal pressures might mean they wouldn't do anything about it, but they'd like to. I don't mean as old as 18 or 19, they're fully grown adults anyway

The amount of men driving cars turning their heads 180 degrees to stare at school girls, it doesn't surprise me.

We are surrounded by men who may not act on it or admit it out loud, but would be more than up for shacking up with a 16 year old if they could get away it and not get shamed for it

I can remember from the age of 11 whenever I would be out (as in walking to the bus stop/walking to school or friends etc) I would constantly get beeped at by men in cars and white vans. I've had men pull over and try and talk to me. This even used to happen abroad on holiday whilst my dad was with me. This isn't me bragging lol but I was often in school uniform when this happened and I clearly looked like an underage child. Didn't develop breasts till I was nearly 16! It really grosses me out when I think of it.

As a mother taking my kids to school each morning I continue to see men driving and staring at school girls. It makes me feel sick, but at least they have the decency to not beep these days, I suppose 😐

I think it’s broadly true that men find younger women attractive. That doesn’t mean they will pursue it, or that it is anything other than objectively seeing someone is attractive. These are not women that older men genuinely want to date or be with.

and by younger I mean 20s.

a PP said there’s a parallel with women generally being attracted to wealthier men. I think that’s true too. Women try to look younger, men try to look richer.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 09/10/2025 10:41

I think it depends on what you mean by late teens.

I work in a university so am surrounded by people 18 - 21, and yes, a lot of the women are attractive, and I am attracted to them.

Younger than that, they tend to still look like the kids they are so no, I'm not attracted to them, and neither are most men.

The fact that 18 year olds are attractive though doesn't mean that I'd have any interest at all in an 18 year old. Just because someone is nice to look at, doesn't have any bearing on whether I'd be interested in dating them, or even just having sex with them.

I'm 42, I'd have absolutely nothing in common with someone in their 20s' let alone someone who was 18, why would that be someone I'd pursue?

So yes, I'd say most men are attracted to 18 year olds. That doesn't mean we're dirty perverts who want to sleep with them though.

Dont be silly a woman of 18 or 19 is not a child!! Of course nen are sexually attracted to women in tbe prime of their fertility andv health and thus Most able to make and birth healthy children. That is not perverted its a Perfectly normal evolutionary biological urge.

Ew

Chiseltip · 09/10/2025 10:37

Wow!

Next you'll be asking if it's really true that we are attracted wealthy men . . .

Of course man are attracted to younger women. Why the fuck do you think the UK cosmetics industry is worth 30 Billion annually. Do you think we are spending all that money on products to look older!

We want to look younger. We think youth is attractive. We spend thousands each year on products and procedures in an attempt to keep ourselves from looking our actual age.

I really question the motivation of OP's who pose questions like this. What the fuck do people think men are attracted to?

If I could look 19 again I would. And so would any of you. Even the OP. And there isn't a man on the planet that would think

"nah! . . . I prefer old and saggy"!

I know my partner would never look at a young woman or teenager in that way.

I don’t know how you can know that.

in my experience men like and lust over younger women until they are in old age. Not teenagers but women in their 20s definitely. just because they are not saying it, or maybe they accept they haven’t a hope, who knows but my impression of men is that they will want sex with young women until they die.

Im amazed at how my taste is changing as I am getting older though. I like older men now, I prefer them and think men younger than 30 are too young.
I see you all writing about ‘dad bods’ I understand what you are describing and am really into it. 😁

BeeKee · 09/10/2025 09:17

There was a study done, where they asked women and men from age 18 to 80 who they found most attractive by showing them photos of those same aged people.

As women aged, the men they found attractive changed with age.

Men from 18-80 on average found the 22 year old the most attractive.

I would wonder if there was a distinction made between ‘objectively most attractive’ and ‘what you are attracted to’, because to me, there is no point in being attracted to someone out of your league. Wonder how they framed it.

ufo · 09/10/2025 10:14

I think the answer to this question is both better and worse than you'd like to hear. Men are basically attracted to anyone who seems within the ages that women are able to make babies. So that's both younger than is socially acceptable (as soon as girls hit puberty) and later than is generally thought (incels who tell you 30 is the limit are a decade or two too low)

Cocoajewel · 09/10/2025 09:32

@EmeraldShamrock000 Thank you, yes that's what I've thought too!

(Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread with a personal story, just thought it was a good example of what was being discussed!)

"With few exceptions, straight men will have sex with women who are willing to have sex with them in the main. If they think that that will 'only' be women of their own age, that's who they'll go for. If they think they've got a chance with someone younger, they'll go for them."

I actually had this happen to me. I am 50, divorced and just started to think about dating again. About 18 months ago I got to know a lovely guy who goes to the same running group, early 50s. I really liked him. We had great chemistry, common interests, I found him really attractive, he seemed kind etc. Similar goals in life. We were talking for a year or so, I had told him that I was still raw after my divorce, but open to taking things slowly.

We hadn't actually got to the point of "dating" when he told me that he'd got into a relationship with a woman in her 20s! I know the woman and she is very attractive. I think the guy was very flattered that she wanted him and the whole thing was based on lust. It ended within a few months and now he's crawling back to me saying that he realises "looks aren't everything" and he wants something "deeper", and he now realises what he could have had with me.

To be fair to him it does sound like he's done a lot of self reflection, but it does sting to realise that even though he and I seemed to have a deep connection, all that was overlooked when a hot twenty something made a play for him.

He doesn't deserve you, his immature selfish ego took over. Self-reflection or not, you are better than that.
I personally wouldn't trust him. 💐

I think women can be quite naive about this really.

Most men who are looking for an equal relationship would choose someone a similar age to have that relationship with.

The sort of men who are interested in an actual partner; who expect and want to play an equal role in raising children and running a household; equality around chores etc.

They generally also want a woman who is their 'best friend'; with whom they have common interests (music, films, cultural and political etc).

They find those women generally attractive because of the way attraction works.

You can't easily have that sort of equality in a relationship with someone 25+ years younger than you because of a lack of shared experiences, cultural references, different life stages, etc.

But just sex? That's a totally different thing and any woman who thinks her husband/partner (or men in general) isn't sexually attracted to much younger women is naive.

With few exceptions, straight men will have sex with women who are willing to have sex with them in the main. If they think that that will 'only' be women of their own age, that's who they'll go for. If they think they've got a chance with someone younger, they'll go for them.

Many men realise they'll just come of as creepy and younger women won't be interested so they stick with what they've got/can get even with her perimenopausal body. Others don't. But they all look and they all react.

I disagree a little with this post - I don’t think all women would fall into two categories - it’s not necessarily either/or. I do believe that men can still genuinely desire women 40 plus, they’re not always settling for what is available.

Edited

Of course. I have met men in their 70's and older who find their wife the most beautiful women in the world.
Attraction is so much more than surface level, I have always found a warm smile, nice arms very attractive over a typical good looking man.
Thinking someone is good looking, doesn't equal wanting to have sex with them.
I notice many good looking people without feeling sexual attracted to any of them.

NewMe2024 · 09/10/2025 09:02

YANBU but it’s also a classic ‘pull back and reveal’ gag mechanism that is designed to elicit an almost Pavlovian laugh response. Then there is the additional layer of ‘ooh er’ controversial humour that Jimmy Carr is famous for.

Prime fertility is mid 20s. Not 18.

It doesn't matter when "prime" fertility occurs. As far as nature is concerned, time's a wastin'. Early humans could be eaten by a tiger or contract a fatal disease at any time, so the sooner they started reproducing, the better. Evolution has seen to it that we have inherited these traits.

Man here

As we get older our tastes in women change and we tend to be/come attracted to women within our age group. As a 20 year old I wouldn't find many 50 year old women attractive, as a 50 year old I do.

However that doesn't mean that we still can't, and don't, find younger women attractive. Of course we do, they don't magically become unattractive just because we have got older. We might not want to date them as they are, usually, simply not mature enough to be interesting and/or we would have very little in common that either of us would find intellectually stimulating.

For the commenter who said that their partner would 'never look at a younger woman in that way', I am afraid that I have some bad news for you.

Hernameisdeborah · 09/10/2025 08:45

I laughed at the joke too. Doesn’t mean I am attracted to teenage girls or women in their early 20s, and it doesn’t indicate I approve of that kind of sad perving. I think it’s laughing at the ‘unexpectedness’ of the punchline rather than out of approval of that way of thinking. That said, I think most straight men are attracted to that late teens/ early 20s age group.

To summarise, many older male friends have said to me over the years that, as they get older, men just tend to become more realistic with their expectations.

Women fall into two categories in their minds - those they want and those they can realistically get. Some will choose to focus on those they can realistically get and others will still pursue those they want.

I don't know if women feel the same way. I've always been attracted to men around my age (+5 years). Regardless of how old I have been and I'm 50 now. I can appreciate that men are attractive whatever their age but I wouldn’t be interested in them.

I agree in part. Most men are attracted to younger women but I’d wager only the “beautiful” ones ie slim, long hair, minimal make up/natural beauty. And quite “girly”.

It’s a bit like male lesbian porn fantasies - they want to see two beautiful “lipstick lesbians” not two butch/androgynous lesbians.

Most men like aesthetically pleasing, compliant females. They’re not too hung up on goths, punks or skinhead girls.

evelynevelyn · 09/10/2025 08:38

You can’t interpret laughter like that. People laugh at surprising things, such as the word play there, and often becuase they are transgressive not accepted.

Googling research on ephebophilia tells me 20-30% of men have some attraction to 15-17 year olds, with 1% having a primary preference for that age.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 09/10/2025 08:31

To add, Jimmy has a sick humour, the shock factor, its his career, he's a happily married man. I have been to his show, he likes to shock.

Dancingdance · 09/10/2025 08:31

It’s not just straight men either. Look at gay celebrities and their much younger partners.
