My Facebook feed is full of GP practices etc. promoting the flu jab, and EVERY response is from people saying they are full of poison, giving everyone flu, part of a government conspiracy, Bill Gates, big pharma, etc.

It doesn't matter where the GP surgery is in the country, the responses are all the same.

Just... WOT IS GOING ON????

It's literally 100% of the respondents. Please can someone explain to me why the general public (on my feeds anyway) have become convinced that the flu jab is part of a conspiracy... to what end?!

Or maybe the pharmacist’s child has an egg allergy, or lives with somebody immunocompromised (they would have the injection instead of the nasal spray, but OP would not necessarily be aware of that).

Edited

Yes, those ar are good points.

Maybe the pharmacist had already given her child the vaccine. It's highly improbable that anyone with a science degree and working in healthcare wouldn't agree with vaccination!

I'm not anti Vax, my kids have their normal vaccines. I won't get them jabbed against COVID or the flu nasal spray. In my daughter's primary school in her class only her and one other child didn't have the flu vaccine. The other child was the child of a pharmacist

The flip side would be.....why do you think differently? Everyone is entitled to their opinion - but guess it comes down to who can make the most objective defence?

I think you can be entitled to your opinion but be aware that if it's based on nothing, what you saw on Tik Tok or what "they" say, then you cant expect anyone to take it seriously or respect it. This is the line I use to the teenagers I teach when they tell me that immigrants are taking all the jobs, we no longer live in a sexist world and that NF, whose party they frequently can't name, let alone list their members or policies has a point.

PollyBell · 09/10/2025 07:27

There is sector of society that get together and try and fight to share a piece of a brain cells they usually believe any conspiracy going, i would love for them to actually give genuine evidence but alas no i do wonder how they coped at school but shudder to thunk they actually raise children

Fiftyandme · 09/10/2025 07:26

You'd only get a pile of meaningless word salad, anyway.

DH (recent heart operation) and I attended our "fluathon" event last weekend. It was incredibly well organised. In through the front door, jabs in one of the rooms and out through the back door. Not even a queue, just a regular stream of people wanting to protect themselves from flu.

Same here, it was brilliant. In, short queue, jab, out. 10 minutes 👍

LochKatrine · 09/10/2025 07:24

I think some people deem it unnecessary because they've never been really ill with flu etc

CopperWhite · 09/10/2025 07:23

What some people don’t realise is that the flu can have secondary infections like ear and sinus infections, pneumonia, bronchitis, and it can worsen existing health problems such as asthma and heart conditions.
Children are the biggest spreaders of flu, and having them vaccinated helps babies who are too young to have it, people with existing health problems such as cancer treatment and immunosuppressants, and the elderly for whom the vaccine isn’t as efficient.

I’m sure most people do realise that flu can have complications, children can spread it and the elderly or immunocompromised are more vulnerable. It’s not exactly difficult information to understand or find.

People can know all those things and still choose not to have the flu vaccine. Most of us aren’t offered it for free anyway and would still want to avoid vaccines unnecessary for ourselves anyway.

Never ask a conspiracy theorists to explain themselves. You will be there all day with their bullshit.

It's just Darwinian natural selection. The rest of the gazelles always used to wonder why the Juliette the gazelle went to the waterhole alone, but despite her explanations that lions hunting packs was a conspiracy theory, nature catches up in the end.

I wonder how many anti vaxers have travel jabs and Botox, I wonder if they look at the ingredients of their medication and antibiotics as closely.

wineosaurusrex · 09/10/2025 06:58

Givemeachaitealatte · 08/10/2025 23:40

Whilst I do understand the concern over childhood vaccine rates and anti vaxxer comments. I couldn't get worked up by people not wanting to get the flu jab, it' crap with a really low success rate.

The wider issue with vaccines in my opinion is about loss of trust in government after COVID, the distortion of truth around the safety and efficacy of COVID vaccines and a general feeling of unrest stoked by social media and bad faith actors. Everyone is paranoid.

Exactly my thoughts

wineosaurusrex · 09/10/2025 06:56

The covid vaccine has scared people to death and forced people to lose trust. People died and received life threatening injuries from that vaccine which was basically forced on everyone. A lot of people i know felt pressured into having it and now are terrified about the potential long term effects, having basically been used as human guinea pigs. I too don't feel keen to get unnecessary vaccines after that ordeal!

LochKatrine · 09/10/2025 06:55

@RubySquid - no, the flu vaccine for children is 60-65% effective, for adults 50-55%.
So I would ignore those lower figures from pp.

Livinginvnam · 09/10/2025 06:53

There's a big difference between anti-vaccine and sceptical about the quantity / frequency of vaccines.

We've recently moved countries, from one country that had a list of required vaccines and a vaccination schedule, to another that had a completely different schedule, so much so that the legal requirements of the second country were "not recommended" in the first. We would not have been able to get our work visas without going against the guidance in the first.

Their country their rules, but I start getting a bit sceptical when one country's scientists disagree with another's, and when our daughter feels sick for 2-3 days after getting the "not-recommended-by-anyone-medically-qualified-but-legally-enforced third vaccine shot, I do start to wonder.

LochKatrine · 09/10/2025 06:52

GentleSheep · 08/10/2025 23:16

They're not going to explain it with any form of logic! Personally I am so done with listening to anti-vax nonsense, it's not only ridiculous it's downright harmful in the case of children especially who will get ill and potentially die or get disabilities as a result of having illnesses there's no need for them to get! (pauses to catch my breath!) How anyone can actually justify that, I can't imagine.

It's interesting, isn't it? I suppose we've become so sheltered from serious illness that many people in our society get blase about it. Think of the people who died from infections before antibiotics became available. Now we don't think about it, just get a prescription for them and carry on.

LochKatrine · 09/10/2025 06:49

CopperWhite · 09/10/2025 05:17

Herd immunity is nothing like drink driving. Your analogy doesn’t work because taking a vaccine invokes a small degree of risk whereas avoiding being a drink driver does not.

People need to get away from thi idea that they have a right to herd immunity. They don’t. High levels of herd immunity come with the cost of vaccine damage, which many of the hardcore pro vaxxers refuse to acknowledge

Get vaccinated to protect yourself if you want but don’t worry about herd immunity or other peoples vaccine choices. They are up to them.

Unfortunately, we have to pay for their choice when they require medical intervention and hospital stays.

I think that's brilliant. I hope it's as successful as tte smallpox campaign 👍.

zazazaaar · 09/10/2025 06:44

I was listening to a radio show about this.
Apparently a lot of the people were deliberately pulled into antivax theories by Russia. Russia/the USSR has spent at least 75 years brainwashing people. They are experts in manipulating the media and propaganda.
Russia wants to cause civil unrest in as much the world as possible, particularly Europe and the US. They want populist parties in control. Weakens any sort of resistance against Russian expansion. they Ve done well in terms of weakening the UN. And it is now recognised that Brexit was it partly down to Russian interference. As well as the election of Trump. Reform/UKIP/Farage has long known to be connected to Russia and funded by Russian interests. Additionally, the megarich want to keep hold of their money and increase their power. Hence, almost all of social media is in the hands of the wealthiest men in the world. They are enjoying playing with us. If you look at the change in wealth of the top naught 0.1% of people in the world, it has gone up exponentially in the last 10 years.

During COVID, they realised there was a real opportunity to get a section of people into being angry at the government. At first, it was anti lockdown rhetoric. And then this swiftly moved into anti vax. There was a huge crossover after covid of those same people being very anti, any sort of Green /ULEZ scheme, they were heavily targeted online, and if you look into anti vaxercise accounts, you ll see, they are often either really anti green schemes, and/or very Reform.
They paid a huge amount of money and have used AI and bots to make sure the algorithms against the Western Government's.
Anyone close to anyone that has gone down the very strong anti vax route.Realises they have been brainwashed.
Have you ever seen Derren brown explain how hypnotists chose who to bring up on stage? It's basically spotting those that are most susceptible to being hypnotized. In a similar way those that want a rise of nationalism and civil unrest have worked out who are easy to manipulate and brainwash. Once caught they are then targeted.
So the reason why those nhs posts are just full of those sorts of comments, is because they get picked up on the algorithm of the anti vaxes and the bots. They instantly put in all their comments, if anyone puts in a normal comment, they get absolutely attacked. So most of us have just given up. Additionally we dont stop at those posts as much so the algorithms don't send yhem our way.

There is obviously a lot more to it than this. But its fascinating and terrifying all in one. We barely understand the power of social media yet. But Russia most certainly does, as they as they have been doing this stuff so we'll for so long. Have a google at Putins popularity ratings as a quick way to see how much people have been manipulated in Russia itself.

I haemorrhaged for two days after getting the Covid vaccine. I wasn’t getting periods as I was on the mini pill so the haemorrhaging was definitely due to the vaccine. The following year I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, I believe the cancer was caused by the vaccine.

Can you explain how the covid vaccine would cause cancer in your uterus?

They won't explain anything, instead they will say something like "I've done my own research, the information is all out there". But they will never provide any sources of information (because it's mostly YouTube).
