Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

A lot of the crime in London is due to migration, which Khan doesn’t control. If anything it’s more the Tories fault we’ve had a surge of crime after their 14 years of mass migration.

Ive read that crime in London is down overall. There are some specific crimes (phone theft and shoplifting) that are up.

I have seen no serious reports blaming an increase in crime on migration.

Ive no first or second hand experience of being a victim or witness of crime.

I have lived in London for most of my 63 years, 25 years of which in Newham which is one of the less affluent parts of our noisy metropolis.

I suspect that the idea that crime is rising and migration is to blame (for this and many other things) are ideas spread by people who ideologically opposed left or centre left politics. Some of thiae people live in St Petersburg

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:50

When people say they don’t like him we all know why that is.

Somehow the same people liked Johnson. I wonder why?!

1990s · 08/10/2025 19:50

All the things here. He’s fantastic, and I can’t believe he bothers in the face of the regular racist threats on his life, I wouldn’t if I was him.

He is ok charge of the police budget yet had closed several police stations.

I hope all these positive comments have put your mind at ease, OP.

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:46

He sacked the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police because of the attacks on women by Police Officers specifically David Carrick.

Says it all really.

shadylane · 08/10/2025 19:44

He’s brilliant and very effective at implementing change. Cleaner air, free school meals, lower crime etc etc etc. You’re most likely watching right wing content producers dubious videos.

OneAmberFinch · 08/10/2025 19:44

Not sure why you're struggling to figure this out. He signs his name in massive letters on every tube station and public billboard...

Makeitstop2025 · 08/10/2025 19:43

Trump and Musk hate him. So that makes him a good guy in my book

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 08/10/2025 19:43

bookworm14 · 08/10/2025 19:32

You might want to ask yourself, OP, why there are so many videos about how awful he is from people who don’t even live in London. What is it about him specifically that makes them so angry?

Yes this.

HPFA · 08/10/2025 19:42

"Watching videos" LOL

Probably the same fake ones that Trump is watching so he can declare war on h own people.

London has a lower murder rate than most American cities, and perhaps more surprisingly, places like Toronto and Copenhagen.

When did politics become this stupid?

ACynicalDad · 08/10/2025 19:42

Hate the guy but love the post pandemic bike lane transformation and ulez. Positive on pre traffic neighbourhoods too.

Sexentric · 08/10/2025 19:42

And is crime increasing? London is a really safe city overall. But really OP if you're not a Londoner why do you even care? I think he's great

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:41

@Luckymum20 The RMT aren’t a London union. Do some research.

Also the Silver Town Tunnel.

mirrorsandlights · 08/10/2025 19:41

This. I can tell the difference in the air I breathe. I no longer have such frequent asthma attacks and chest infections, I don’t smell the levels of pollution when walking along busy roads, I no longer have to clean my windows every week. This is the single most important thing for everyone who lives in London.

Notagain75 · 08/10/2025 19:41

He is certainly not a catastrophe of a man by any means. His predecessor definitely was though.
And he has suffered from racism and islamaphobia.
A few things he has introduced since becoming Mayor of London
Free school meals for all state primary school pupils
Council homebuilding under is at a higher level than at any time since the 1970s.
Record sums have been invested in youth clubs and services for young people , including a mentorship programme for young people in need
Transport improvements including the night tube and the Elizabeth line
Much cleaner air
And there is a lot more

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:40

He is brave and honest. He pushed through the ULEZ and has had the most appalling attacks and abuse.

Pollution is killing us. It causes dementia, cancer on top of the endless chest conditions.

Ella Adoo Kissi Debrah died as a direct result of pollution.

Sexentric · 08/10/2025 19:40

Yep cleaner air tanks to Upez, all primary kids getting free school.meala and superloop. I think he's done great things for Londoners. I'd happily have him for another term

sicilianpizza · 08/10/2025 19:40

Rosecoffeecup · 08/10/2025 19:27

Free school meals, cleaner air, transport improvements like the superloop (a bloody god send)

This plus council house building, more affordable housing, investment for young people, better walking and cycling provision. Ulez was a really brave stand to tackle air pollution despite so much opposition. I love Sadiq and was so happy that the vocal minority who have it in for him didn’t sway the last election.

corlan · 08/10/2025 19:38

Implementing congestion zones was a very bold move. So many people were furious about them at first but they're here now and we all have cleaner air to breathe. For that alone ,I admire him.

bookworm14 · 08/10/2025 19:38

The RMT will strike regardless of who is mayor.

Aliceisagooddog · 08/10/2025 19:38

Luckymum20 · 08/10/2025 19:37

There are numerous RMT strikes planned this year....

Lol what's that got to do with a mayor??

Luckymum20 · 08/10/2025 19:37

NinaGeiger · 08/10/2025 19:29

There was an ongoing TFL strike before he started as Mayor which he resolved straight away.
Improving air pollution and free school meals

There are numerous RMT strikes planned this year....

Boris wasted £40 million on a bridge that never happened.
He gave £250,000 to his mistress which was ‘loans’ for her business
