Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

You clearly have an agenda and an entrenched view, OP, because it’s notable you have not engaged with any positive comments.

I've lived in London all my life. This man has ruined our once great city. The sooner he's gone, the better.

Ruined it in what way? Specifics, please, with data from reliable sources.

I meant outer London. The boroughs outside Inner London who have never voted for him. And if the concept is too complex for you look up the teacher pay scales.

As I said upthread they should split London up and have two Mayors or make his jurisdiction only for the centre. most of the outer boroughs never wanted a Mayor anyway.

Completely ridiculous idea to have 2 mayors. The point is to join up London wide services like TfL and the Met Police. How would it work with two mayors who wanted different things? Pointless……

There is ‘believed’ to be a lot of electoral fraud in London.

That sounds very much like something Trump supporters said when Biden won because they didn't like the outcome of the election.
Unless backed up with actual facts it's nonsense

Nope. He’s useless. 🙄

In what way?

Don't swallow the racist crap people post about SK. He has actually helped ordinary Londoners, including free school meals and cheaper travel.

And cleaner air.

Comtesse · 09/10/2025 09:11

Luckymum20 · 08/10/2025 19:50

He is ok charge of the police budget yet had closed several police stations.

He doesn’t set the total amount of money the Met Police get - that’s decided by the Home Office. He’s made some big calls on the Met and I think he’s been correct to do so.

Plus TfL has done well at integrating bikes, trains, Crossrail etc - it is in general a very effective transport organisation (with an industrial relations challenge that’s true - but that’s common across the UK and hardly the Mayor’s fault).

Main point though - Stop watching stupid videos on YouTube - they’ll turn your brain to mush.

What you are saying is factually and demonstrably untrue.

Population of the inner boroughs: 3.5million
Population of the outer boroughs: 5.5million

So how did he get voted in if he only got votes from the inner boroughs?

If the concept of numbers is too complex for you, there's a pretty drawing on this page that shows you're wrong too - https://metro.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/SEI_202627199-8008.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=646 Or are you under the impression that Richmond, Merton, Barnet, Enfield and Barking are all inner boroughs?

You know, if you have to make stuff up to bolster your argument, maybe your argument is bollocks.

Londoner here who voted for him each time.

I don’t have kids or live in the outer boroughs so wasn’t really conscious of FSM and the super loop but it is great to hear that they have made such a difference. We needed the ULEZ and he was right to push it through (and he stuck to it even though it made him unpopular with Labour voters - I was out campaigning and it was a very hard sell).

Homicide is down during his time in office which is a huge achievement. Crime overall in London has risen but it is a nuanced picture, because this is a national trend so it is hardly something which can be attributable to his time as mayor: https://www.statista.com/topics/4627/crime-in-london/#topicOverview

I don’t agree with his TWAW stance, but I’m not a single issue voter. He can be pretty thin skinned and angry when challenged on his views on TWAW but he’s far from alone on that (and generally the you tube clips of him being snippy in London Assembly are put together without context from what must literally be thousands of hours of footage - they are hardly a fair picture).

The man is diabolical. He is anti British, sexist tosser.

In what way is he "anti British" exactly?

Or are you just saying this because he is brown and Muslim?

Bikergran · 09/10/2025 09:05

Bambamhoohoo · 08/10/2025 19:36

I mean, I know the hate around him is racism but I find the narrative baffling.

what did Ken Livingston do? What Boris Johnson do? What do people actually expect mayors to do??

londoners like him a lot- but we do tend to be less racist than the rest of the country

Well, BJ wasted tons of money on the "garden bridge" project for one thing. Most of the negativity seems to be from actively racist foreigners who don't live in London.

There is ‘believed’ to be a lot of electoral fraud in London.

I know a fair amount about electoral fraud, and it's not so widespread that it would cause someone to be elected by a significant majority three times over. Unless we lived in Russia or North Korea perhaps. Khan received the largest number of votes (1.3m) that any UK politician has personally received to date.

Boomer55 · 09/10/2025 09:02

Top tip, OP: get your news from proper news sources not random videos on online sites. Lest you run the risk of being thought a complete, and very gullible, buffoon. With, possibly, something of an issue with skin colour and religion.

There is ‘believed’ to be a lot of electoral fraud in London.

Probably "believed" by those who don't want to accept that a brown muslim man might have been elected on his own merits.

CurlewKate · 09/10/2025 08:52

Lazytiger · 09/10/2025 08:47

He’sasanctimonious, do as I say not as I do, little tw@t and crime is rampant under him. Will that do you? Or were you trying to stir up something else with your comment?

Can you say more about this?

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/10/2025 08:52

Lazytiger · 09/10/2025 08:50

There is ‘believed’ to be a lot of electoral fraud in London.

There really isn't. There was a specific issue with suspected voter intimidation in Towet Hamlets related to a particualr local candidate and local elections. That is is.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/10/2025 08:50

@Curlewcurfew I am neutral on pedestrianising Oxford st TBH, it's a bloody dreadful place and I never go there by choice and pedestrianisation is unlikely to change my view. However I think the current situation is unsustainable. It takes forever for buses to get up and down the street, do we need to so many bus routes along there? Or perhaps a partial pedestrianisation could be the solution - similar to the new set up on the Strand?

Lazytiger · 09/10/2025 08:50

Whatafustercluck · 08/10/2025 19:32

I don't know much about what he's done, but he must be very popular, and have done quite a lot of good things, to be elected three times surely?

There is ‘believed’ to be a lot of electoral fraud in London.

Northerngirl821 · 09/10/2025 08:48

The Reform trolling is starting to get really tedious now 🙄 “I don’t live in London” but I’m still going to start angsty mumsnet threads about what the major of London does/doesn’t do… ok then OP.

bookworm14 · 08/10/2025 19:32

You might want to ask yourself, OP, why there are so many videos about how awful he is from people who don’t even live in London. What is it about him specifically that makes them so angry?

He’sasanctimonious, do as I say not as I do, little tw@t and crime is rampant under him. Will that do you? Or were you trying to stir up something else with your comment?

Pissed off Donald Trump. (Not a Londoner so can't comment with anything intelligent)

Yes, this too! :)

Curlewcurfew · 09/10/2025 08:46

I'll add that I've lived in London all my life, as have most of my friends, family and many of my neighbours, and it really has made a big, tangible difference to central London. It's a much better place to live than ever.
