A man pushing obviously a young baby along in its pram in the town today.

You couldn't see the baby but there was a sign on the pushchair saying please don't touch or kiss the baby, then words I couldn't read. Then it said Thanks .

Reminded me of MN. I know its been discussed.
Never seen a sign on the pram though, telling people, has anyone else?
Did even know they made them.

A friend of mine had one of these signs as her baby was very poorly. They didn’t get to go out often due to the risks but even when just on a walk, people would still try to touch. People always act like the parents are the issue, but they should really question why they think they have the right to touch another person that they have zero connection too. It’s like weirdos that touch women’s pregnancy bumps. Seriously, have some boundaries.

lifeonmars100 · 08/10/2025 19:46

My baby was always admired when I took them out as they were rather lovely to look at (yes of course I was biased but they were a cutie) but nobody ever touched or tried to kiss them. I always admire babies when I am out but never ever would I even hover anywhere near them let alone move in to try and kiss them, that is just mental, poor baby, some random person slobbering over them. With family and friends I have always asked if I can hold them and always respected the parents' wishes.

VoltaireMittyDream · 08/10/2025 19:46

I want to know what the fine print said!

Please don’t touch or kiss the baby
or I’ll break your fucking kneecaps

I want one of these types of signs to hang off my mother’s timid rescue dog. So fed up of people bounding up and ruffling her ears and scaring the shit out of her.

Why can’t people keep their mitts to themselves fgs?

Imagine being that parent. 🙄

You've clearly never sat beside your (24hrs ago was perfectly healthy) newborn baby in a hospital thats on a ventilator which has caught RSV from many of the 'oh dont be silly, its just a kiss' brigade. Being told my baby could go "either way" in the next 24hrs was the worst moment of my life.....

LittleCarrot12 · 08/10/2025 19:44

I had this for my little prem 🥰 He was so tiny and frail it made me more relaxed out and about

SatsumaDog · 08/10/2025 19:44

To be honest I can’t imagine a scenario where I would touch or kiss a stranger’s baby. Neither would I touch the baby of someone I know without their permission. What I find bizarre is that people have to have a sign at all.

SourCherryade · 08/10/2025 19:38

Is this a thing that actually happens? No one ever tried to touch my DC in their prams.

Maybe it was my resting bitch face that helped.

My baby needs one of them dog neckerchiefs that says ‘not friendly’ 🤣

Why what's wrong with it exactly?

I saw a few people with these when I was out and about at groups and such when DS was tiny. No idea if the babies were immunocompromised or ill (but they were at playgroups and classes so suspect not). Personally I never minded anyone peering in at tiny DS, I don’t recall anyone trying to touch him though, he’s summer born though so less colds and flu about. A couple of older Scottish ladies slipped a pound into the pocket on the outside of his pram for luck.

That’s a whole different sign, maybe with a built-in coin slot 😂 💰 💰 💰

Autumnyears · 08/10/2025 19:30

No one has the right to kiss or touch someone's baby with out permission. Sign is a good idea.

SpongeKnobNoPants · 08/10/2025 19:30

Well, if total strangers will insist on touching tiny/sick/vulnerable babies, then the parents have gotta do what they've gotta do! I'm frequently amazed at how so many people overstep boundaries and invade other peoples personal space.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/10/2025 19:29

Wish I had got one! Took my son out in his pram after recovering from OHS and an old lady peaked in and cooed at him but then rasped her knuckles over his front.

These types of things are only needed because other people have an entitlement to babies that aren't theirs and no common sense.

Brilliant, current NHS guidance 💙

Only a MN mum would think everyone would be rushing to kiss their baby 😂

That's true Grin

I have had people do it on at least 3 occasions that I can think of to my currently 3mo. I'm in the north east.

I meant to add but for some reason can't edit now, mine was born at 38 weeks, has an older sibling who brings germs home from school anyway, and is generally big and healthy so I'm not that worried (I do ask people not to though when they go to do it, but I wouldn't panic about it if they did make contact), but if I had a preemie or immunocompromised baby I can absolutely see myself getting a sign.

I never once had a stranger kiss or touch my babies. 🤷‍♀️ is it a regional thing?

Me neither. Maybe my babies were hideous or something?

Apricotafternoon · 08/10/2025 19:23

Fair enough and good on them for the sign.

Imagine being THAT person who thinks it’s fine to touch or kiss a STRANGERS baby unsolicited…. Crazy.

Exactly what I was about to say. They shouldn't need a bloody sign.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/10/2025 19:20

I can honestly say that I have never had the urge to touch or kiss any babies that weren't personally birthed by me.

Puppies, on the other hand...

Newnamethisway · 08/10/2025 19:17

sad they need to do this if it is to ward off strangers. Maybe just also a steer to parents of young children who are often just curious.

I’ve never had children but am amazed by threads here with pregnant women who have strangers try to pat their bump.

I might start a new line in tshirts.

"Don't touch, I'm just fat" 🤭

LadyGreyjoy · 08/10/2025 19:19

I put on of these signs on my daughter's pram after THREE old ladies put their hands in the pram to touch her in her first week of life. Two tried to lean in and breathe all over her and stroke her face and one time I was holding her and an old lady just marched up and shoved her hand straight in her her face, then had the cheek to look offended when I slapped it away before she made contact. My daughter was 6 days old!

I don't want strangers touching my baby and I find it outrageous that people actually need to be told it's not ok.

I work on children's cancer ward. Our parents often put these on the prams.

Yep.

My son was 8 when he had cancer and had to be an inpatient the entire time due to some complications but it wasn't unusual for the mums with babies to have things like that on the prams.
