Good grief. Your daughter needs to get over herself.

BeLilacSloth · 08/10/2025 19:57

Please both respect her wishes, RSV and meningitis kill.

Why are parents so weird nowadays.
Don't they realise that germs help with immunity.

Do you know that between 25 to 30 babies die in the UK due to RSV and put 30,000 under 5 year old in hospital every year.

Toadetta · 08/10/2025 19:49

I think if your husband forgot and gave baby a kiss without thinking, your daughter is over reacting. And could possibly have an anxiety issue?

If you're doubling down and arguing that you should be able to kiss your grandchild, that's a bit different. It might seem silly to you but parents nowadays do get guidance around rsv and not uncommon to insist people can't kiss the baby. Although it usually refers more to the newborn stage when they're so fragile, it's up to your daughter as it's her baby.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/10/2025 19:47

I can’t imagine anything sadder than a child that’s not been kissed by her close family.

Is there more to this op? A back story?

Dontlletmedownbruce · 08/10/2025 19:42

I can't stand these control freak mothers. It's scary to me there are so many of them out there. Some day she'll have some real problems...

I'm really sorry OP that's so awful.

Vaxtable · 08/10/2025 19:42

I suggest that you and your husband apologies, say you got carried away and it won’t happen again

some mothers are concerned, others not, she obviously is, and whatever you may think about it it’s her child, her rules

try apologising

OriginalUsername2 · 08/10/2025 19:42

Wow, a month. Usually the problem posted about is the tip of an iceberg. Is there any other tension this could really be about?

Did he apologise? Maybe it’s how you all reacted at the time.

BeRoseSloth · 08/10/2025 19:40

Your husband made a mistake and is realising the consequences. She’s not taking it out on you all. She angry that he broke her rule. Has he apologised and promised not to do it again. Or is he sulking. Are you?

QuickPeachPoet · 08/10/2025 19:40

TheClanoftheDook · 08/10/2025 19:35

Urgh 😑 don’t worry she’ll be back when she needs childcare

Quite. Let's see if her sulky tantrum lasts when she wants something. She has kept it up for a MONTH!!! That's impressive. What were her teenage tantrums like OP? Has she got form for this sort of foot stamping and silent treatment behaviour.
Leave her to it OP. It is hard for you missing out on that lovely little girl but as PP said she will no doubt come skulking back.
Her poor partner, and her poor work colleagues if she treats them to much of the same!

Heyheyitsanotherday · 08/10/2025 19:39

This is extreme from your daughter. Does she have anxiety? What was your reaction when she said she was upset about the kiss? Were you inflammatory or apologetic?

confusedlady10 · 08/10/2025 19:37

purpleme12 · 08/10/2025 18:46

Did you know not to kiss her child before then?

This. I do think her refusing to talk to you is extreme and wonder how long it will go on for though.

Not sure if this comment is bait but this isn’t true and current NHS guidance is what the parents are requesting BECAUSE of an under developed immune system in a young baby

Onlycoffee · 08/10/2025 19:31

If you've never been allowed, why did your husband do it?

Doglover36 · 08/10/2025 19:30

Over a month taking it out on us all..

OP posts:
OriginalUsername2 · 08/10/2025 19:29

That’s a strong reaction. How long has it been since she spoke you you?

Your daughter is an absolute prize prat. Her partner must be putting up with an awful lot (or hasn't got the balls to tell her to snap out of it and be a decent person).
Let's see how she is when she wants childcare in the future. Will she come crawling back then?
Set money aside in a trust fund for your granddaughter if you can. Write cards for her that you can make sure she gets one day. Your love for her doesn't stop because her sulky madam of a mother can't behave decently. You wonder sometimes who is the adult and who is the child in this situation.
She needs to remember who taught her how to use a spoon and have some respect!

What a nasty outburst.

She's not a child anymore, she's a mother, and the one who needs to have some respect is the OP, or she doesn't get to see her grandchild. Because it's not her child, not her choice. She's not in charge any more. Simples.

This. It's such a bloody minefield and so, so hurtful. I despair for this generation I really do

No cold sore, no smokey breath. Colds ect we always wash our hands before touching baby..

You have another thread about a cold sore and a baby, maybe you daughter doesn’t want either of you kissing the baby due to the herpes virus.

I do agree, but kissing a baby is the kind of thing people sometimes do without thinking so he might not have been intentionally ignoring her wishes, more just being thoughtless.

If they've not been allowed to kiss their grandchild for a whole 6 months, I very much doubt this.

The thing is, babies under 6 months are more at risk. To me, it looks like the baby has now hit 6 months old and grandad has decided the threshold has been met so he's going to have that kiss, regardless of whether he's been permitted or not.

So you know that she’s always had the boundary in place and your husband disregarded her wishes? In that case, YABU.

SpongeKnobNoPants · 08/10/2025 19:09

I suspect your daughters silent treatment is due to the lack of your respect for her boundaries rather than the actual kiss. She asked you both to follow one precautionary rule to help reduce some of the risk, and your husband decided his desire to kiss the baby was more important.
