People using the word gosh, or golly gosh.

I have never in real life heard anyone other than MN posters and Disney princesses use gosh. It's absolutely vile.

It can get in the bin along with moist, supper and plonk (wine).

(Lighthearted of course)

I dislike the word "ick".

Never heard nor seen it anywhere other than MN.

Abracadabra12345 · 07/10/2025 17:07

I’ve now become sensitive to the term, “ critical thinking “. Usually the pp has this skill and those they disagree with don’t…

XWKD · 07/10/2025 17:07

"The ick" gives me the ick.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 07/10/2025 17:06

The word ‘ick’ gives me the creeps. Funny how we’re all so different.

Peppaisrude · 07/10/2025 17:05

Can't stand when people say days of the week like Tuesdee, Wednesdee etc.

The phrase 'mind you'

Octoberfest · 07/10/2025 17:05

"cuppa". Bleurgh. Equally as bad as "hubby"

Ringley · 07/10/2025 17:04

I can't stand the word ick @Chopbob

I too love the word cunt @BauhausOfEliott

Rainydayinlondon · 07/10/2025 17:04

I hate the phrase "oh my god" so would far rather hear Gosh

Theresabatinmykitchen · 07/10/2025 17:02

I say gosh and golly, it’s a completely natural part of my vocabulary, would say or type it without a second thought, I don’t use it to replace a swear word but tend to use it if something has surprised, shocked or impressed me, not sure why that is dishonest, what a bizarre train of thought.

Cattenberg · 07/10/2025 17:02

I don't like the word, "kitchen" and if it's repeated a lot, it really gets on my nerves. Such an ugly, finicky-sounding word. Also, I could get excited about a redecorated bedroom or living room or even a new bathroom, but never about a new kitchen. They are dull places for doing housework. I know I'm being unreasonable.

FancyCatSlave · 07/10/2025 17:01

I swear like a trooper but also use Gosh, don’t give a flying fuck if others like it or not.

DD and I are big Enid Blyton fans and we needed an alternative to saying God for school (she is Y1 in a CoE) so Gosh has stuck.

But I also say Fuck and Cunt a lot which appear less often in The Faraway Tree.

That's exactly what I do too! 😀 I ignore all the words in between, then I pretend I've been listening (sometimes that works..!)

I say gosh in new situations or around new people because many Christians would consider it blasphemous to exclaim 'God!'. I grew up around some Christian family and was taught this was polite and therefore I'm just being aware of my situation and trying not to accidentally offend people.

I've also been known to say 'Jings', 'Jeezo' or' Sugar' which I've been (lightly) teased about by family and friends. I work in a professional, corporate role and as such, I've learned to avoid swearing in some environments. This naturally overflows into my day to day life sometimes.

Doggybroc · 07/10/2025 14:44

my very close (and absolutely lovely) friend does.

She is a devout Christian and uses it instead “God”

I love her saying it 😊

This is me also. I use 'Gosh' but only in that scenario.

I sometimes amuse myself by counting how many times someone says "like" . it keeps me awake while they are like whittering on like

Renoonabudget · 07/10/2025 16:54

I use gosh alot at the moment as I have a 6 year old. I used to swear like a sailor pre kids and try my best to reign it in for their sake. I think the other Mums would probably prefer it to me saying forfucksake all the time. Hope I don't give them the ick with my forced self censorship.

JohnTheRevelator · 07/10/2025 16:53

I use 'gosh' occasionally, but then I am old. 😂 I never say 'golly gosh' though!

Happyjoe · 07/10/2025 16:53

NimbleDreamer · 07/10/2025 16:45

I hate it when people say 'yum'. Usually they write it rather than say it out loud. E.g. someone posts a picture of their dinner on FB and writes 'yum' as the caption. Just no 👎

Tbh if someone is still posting a pic of their dinner on FB then 'yum' is the least annoying. That's so yesterday! 😀

Happyjoe · 07/10/2025 16:49

To be honest no words wind me up, not a fan of them being repeated over and over however, when some people say 'like', or similar at the start of every sentence. I end up switching off.

CherrieTomaties · 07/10/2025 16:52

Hubby
Kiddos
Snog
Bog
Trump (The wind AND the president)
Me thinks
Supper

All awful.

MyDeftDuck · 07/10/2025 16:52

Yes…..GOSH is up there with HUN, BABE, BABES, LOVEY, and any bloody first name that gets shortened with an ‘s’ on the end……..ie Amy shorted to AMES! ….STOP! Just STOP!!!!!!!

worcesterpear · 07/10/2025 16:51

I don't mind gosh if it's said genuinely, by someone who has used it for years. My auntie used to say it and I found it quite endearing (she was religious and said it in a self-deprecating/apologetic way). Also don't mind supper if it's used to describe eg a slice of toast or bowl of cereal, not when it's used pretentiously to describe an evening meal, to try and be posh, though I can't get too worked up about it.

Catinabeanbag · 07/10/2025 16:50

I'm a 'gosh'-er.... and do use it when I'm suprised. I do swear as well, but mostly when annoyed.
Also hate 'supper', 'plonk' and 'yummy' (boke) - that's all hoo rah hockey sticks, as far as I'm concerned. 'Hearty meals' can also go whistle!

lifeonmars100 · 07/10/2025 16:50

The frequent and inaccurate use of the word "iconic" for anything, anyone or anywhere that is reasonably well known.

Also used with such frequency that it is now all but devoid of meaning are "obsessed" and "excited" . Influencers are obsessed with the word obsessed and are always excited about some utter nonsense they are trying to flog

Luna6 · 07/10/2025 16:50

I don't mind Gosh. Rather that than Fuck. What I really hate is the word ick.
