People using the word gosh, or golly gosh.

I have never in real life heard anyone other than MN posters and Disney princesses use gosh. It's absolutely vile.

It can get in the bin along with moist, supper and plonk (wine).

(Lighthearted of course)

I wince when people ‘rock up’ (or pitch up) to events.

What do these expressions even mean?

Or swing by is another one

I think you need to be genuinely posh and really rich to get away with saying gosh or golly gosh. I don’t know anyone who says it! I think it’s popular in the royal family.
I hate when people say super in front of other words. Super-happy, super- excited, super-expensive.

Yes I hate this "super" thing too.

What is wrong with "very"?

And "amazeballs". Words utterly fail me there.

PurpleChrayn · 07/10/2025 21:53

Light-skinned men who have naturally over-defined lips give me the ick.

Sometimes I say "Jolly D". Mostly because I find it quietly hilarious to sound like I'm a member of the Famous Five and also because I don't give a flying fuck what people think of me.

….so do I!!🤣

People don’t know what they’re missing!

I see your Jolly D, and I raise you this annoying (to my husband) quote from the classic film, Kind Hearts and Coronets…

One of the characters is having a dig at another and says “Would it be asking too much of your manners to escort me to the door?”

I preface all kinds of requests to my husband with this phrase 🤣.

I will never understand how these people who have visceral over-reactions to normal, commonplace words but happily use "ick" - about the most babyish and increasingly meaningless slang words there is around.

They want to be edgy, innit?

Bless.

I have far more respect for people who say cunt than some wannabe faking it by going “oh gosh”. Fuck off with it

Delightful! 🤣

You sound very angry.

Dollymylove · 07/10/2025 20:28

"We are pregnant"
Makes my ears bleed 😬

AbbeyGrange · 07/10/2025 20:28

Maybe I'm grumpy but when my children were babies I used to dislike it when anyone who handed my the baby back to me said "there you are, back to Mum" or they'd say how's Mum? (me) Drs and midwives did it, I know I'm being unreasonable but I remember thinking I have a name, I'm not just Mum

grumpygrape · 07/10/2025 20:21

So, gently....

Yes, I hate ‘nourish’ as well. I also hate the word ‘soup’ for some reason, so if someone refers to a nourishing soup I’m out of there.

😂It is strange isn’t it. Mine is when people say ‘pud’, as in ‘ main course and a pud’.

LiftToTheTube · 07/10/2025 19:20

I hate ‘hate on’.

I also dislike people ‘grabbing’ a coffee, ‘chucking’ something in the slow cooker or ‘throwing on’ a coat. Are we really all in such a permanent rush?

Bbq1 · 07/10/2025 19:04

I really can't bear it when posters say, "insert here can get in the bin". It just sounds so twee. I don't mind "bin it" but "get in the bin" grates.

Edited

Yes. Or get in the sea.

Thepeopleversuswork · 07/10/2025 19:19

@SuspiciousTimes

Honestly I could be a hollibob billionaire if I had cashed in every mention of these two words. Taking my hollibobs in the most glamorous locations.

Of course they are awful. It hardly needs saying again and again and again with dreadful predictability on every thread. Every single thread.

LiftToTheTube · 07/10/2025 19:18

Nobody who uses the word ‘ick’ has a leg to stand on when criticising words!

I say gosh, as does my 21y old. It’s a word that’s been around forever, unlike the new-fangled babyish words like ‘ick’.

Oaktreet · 07/10/2025 19:17

I say gosh. It was said in my house growing up, my mum's Christian and would tell us off for saying omg so it became gosh, it's just normal for me. I also swear.

I’ve read so many threads on here from people saying they hate “hollibobs” and “hubs” that I actually like using these words to be contrary.

I love a good word slagging session but can’t we find new words to hate? Hollibobs are hubs. Yawnsville.

I’m relatively new here so haven’t seen any other threads like this, and I’ve really enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. I despise those words you mentioned, but if it makes you happy to use them, good for you.

’A lush’ is an established word for a drunk - usually a specific kind of drunk, the type who is a bon viveur, maybe someone quite theatrical, rather than a bog-standard alcoholic. So definitely not confined to your community - and it’s been around since at least the 1800s!

Thanks very much.
We usually used the term to describe uptight society women we knew.
There were quite a few lushes in our town, actually. lol
That thought nobody was on to them is maybe the funniest part.

Zigazigarrr · 07/10/2025 18:52

It’s always influencers (or people who think they are influencers) who nibble or sip. It’s like they think making themselves sound like a rabbit is the height of sophistication.

SwedishEdith · 07/10/2025 18:49

Adding to "love making" and "play" hatred, I also detest "kink" and "toys" in reference to sex. Even typing them out is making me shudder in revulsion.
