Jews leaving the UK

Ihatetomatoes · 06/10/2025 10:42

I dont blame them. I would if I were Jewish.

They have been failed by their country, which is the UK. I wish them well and hope the UK can sort its anti semitism problems so it becomes safe for Jewish people again.

Seriously, out if everything I've just said about how safe I feel a British citizen living in the UK, the 1 thing you want to comment on is another government's foreign policy?

Where is your humanity & moral compass?

Don’t you think the Israeli governments actions are making you feel unsafe ? Do you not think they’re being anti Semitic?

What more? It is illegal, it is prosecuted, it is socially unacceptable. What else do you want?

Anti Semitism is not “unacceptable” in the UK; Jewish doctors are routinely being bullied and harassed in the NHS, for example.

Matthew Syed wrote a front page article in the Sunday Times about the appalling Jew hate expressed by the majority of marchers on the last pro Palestine March. This was not just anti Israeli sentiment, it was hatred of Jews.

Anti semites and their useful handmaidens like you should educate themselves. You all repulse me.

Thank BluntPlumHam, I echo everything you say. To claim protesting genocide or wanting to see an end of Israeli war crimes against the Palestinians is "antisemitic" is totally absurd. Not only absurd but a totally insult to those Jews who have been or could be REAL victims of ACTUAL antisemitism.
As a British Jewish person, I'm sick to death of seeing the antisemitism card being branded about so casually. It's almost laziness.
Nothing wrong with being proudly Jewish AND pro-Palestinian.

It’s just so disrespectful to the families who are mourning the victims that died from the attack. It was mere hours that people jumped on mumsnet calling and blaming the marches which was a deliberate weaponisation of those victims and their Jewish identity to somehow in a sick and twisted way to justify a full blown genocide.

does the term “terrorism” apply to the Israeli government too ?

I would hope so! Considering it's PM is current wanted on war crimes charges..

Any ideas where Palestinians who don't feel safe in Gaza should go to?
Asking for a friend....

And the Jewish people in the UK are responsible for this, are they?

Christ, it doesn't even hide its face anymore does it.

Two whole families? Gosh it’s an exodus!!

When Jews say they are worried, people like you don’t believe us. You are wrong. I am Jewish and I know hundreds and hundreds of Jewish people in the U.K. The conversation around all of our tables is one of anxiety and fear. Disbelief that we are in this situation in the U.K. in 2025. In all my 54 years, I have never felt like this. And so many of these people I know are talking about leaving , about going to Israel.
So quit the attitude and believe Jews when they are speaking.

This thread is depressing.

  1. Israel isn’t unique - many countries have a religious basis. Including the UK which is Christian. But also including the many Muslim countries.
  1. People telling Jews they shouldn’t feel anxious after one attack is ridiculous. It starts with one - we can show that time and time again in history. Then everyone says we deserved it for whatever reason (murdering Christian babies in the inquisition, running all the banks in 1930s Germany, Israel’s war in 2025). Then everyone feels encouraged to try again and again until we are kicked out of another country or murdered en masse. Any Jewish family has a story from each generation.
  1. I am amazed I finally found that mythical Jewish person who goes on these horrific marches. Keep hearing about them! I know none in my actual life.

I do not feel safe. But I don’t feel safe anywhere else either. I really, really don’t want to miss the moment where I should take my kids and run for it - as so many did in ww2. There’s always a moment that figure generations know about but you can easily miss when you’re living it. And I worry a lot that I won’t recognise it if it comes.

That's what I keep thinking. The fact that people went out marching and cheering for Hamas hours after an Islamist terror attack on a synagogue... and 'ordinary people' saw no issues there. It does make me wonder if that was the moment, the tipping point.

Why is opposing genocide Jew hatred?

I’m so confused by these threads of late in the wake of the recent attack.

Do you genuinely believe for two years the sheer amount of diverse people from all walks of life that have consistently been out protesting (the protests are just getting bigger) are doing so for ‘jew hatred’?

The utter absurdity of you to come to that conclusion suggests deliberate weaponisation of one atrocity to justify one of the most heinous mass atrocities of our time. Give your head a wobble.

You are literally demonstrating the point. The way you are framing it is that any Israeli or any person who supports the right of Israel to exist is not ‘innocent’. So Jews who are against Israel are ok. Jews who believe Israel should exist as a Jewish state (ie most of them) are not.

The anti-Israel sentiment has become so extreme that unless you are an anti-Zionist you are guilty and basically fair game. This is where the pro-Palestine movement is anti-Semitic.

It’s like saying, ‘Im not Islamophobic, Im just against people who support the right of Pakistan to exist (ie 99% of Muslims)’

But again, this is very black and white thinking. I think people can respect the right of Israel to exist and be run as a Jewish state, but ALSO expect Israel (as I would with any government or state) to act with caution and moderation when defending themselves as needed. I have no issue specifically with the existence of Israel and understand why it is important that Israel exists, but the issues around reconciliation and dispute with Palestine, specifically Hamas, and Israels recent retaliatory actions have, to me, now escalated to a point that I dont think is is defensible any more. And I say that as someone who grew up in the midst of a civil war and does understand the generational trauma and the fear that goes along with that and knowing a demographic of the country you live in want you out.

Honeycottage · 06/10/2025 13:18

As a Jew born in Btitain I do not feel safe. The antisemitism is endemic.
The marches are hateful, the BBC is biased & won't even call Hamas terrorists & will broadcast death chants to Jews, & I'm scared to use the NHS because of antisemitism.

Don't even ask me to about the antisemitism that I have experienced in our schools & universities. How do we pick a university for our children when the campuses are not safe for Jewish students? That is why we are talking about leaving our homes & country of birth, for our children's safety & future. So very sad 😔

does the term “terrorism” apply to the Israeli government too ?

Barnbrack · 06/10/2025 13:34

Doobiesista · 06/10/2025 13:31

What's that got to do with British Jews?

If a British Jewish person is feeling they want to go and settle in Israel, a country on the offensive of it's neighbouring region to the point of murdering hundreds of thousands of people including children in the past year or 2 because Israel is defending itself because Palestine is such a threat then they SHOULD feel threatened in Israel. If they don't it underlines the utterly ridiculous double think this response requies

If what's happening in Gaza is because Jewish people feel unsafe in light of Hamas and they are therefore simply defending themselves...

Surly Israel would be scarier than london

Or maybe it shows you how scary London is for Jews now?

Bambamhoohoo · 06/10/2025 13:30

We do need to protect Jews. But although we are not perfect by any standards, i would say we do a good job here. I used to work with the Jewish community in Hendon through my old job and was often told nowhere was safe, but the uk was better than most countries.

i think it’s awful that a whole religion lives waiting to be exiled, and that this has happened throughout history.

Barnbrack · 06/10/2025 13:30

PurpleThistle7 · 06/10/2025 13:28

My friends who are considering it say that it would feel better to know who your enemy is instead of being constantly anxious about who hates you

I wonder how many Palestinians are going back just now given how fair the fight is there and how anti semitism is the real problem not the current racist undertones and anti immigration overt rhetoric. Do you think a Palestinian person would want to go back to Gaza right now? Because better the devil you know? Doesn't seem wildly likely

So all us Jews who take part in pro-Palestine marches are "self-haters", right? Give me a break. I simply refuse to buy into the narrative that marches protesting for Palestinian rights and an end of Israeli genocide are in ANY way anti-Jew. I personally know dozens of Jews who attend and none of them have EVER experienced "hatred" at the marches. Are they all liars? mmm....

nomas · 06/10/2025 13:27

It's understandable if people feel scared and want to leave. They can always come back if it doesn't work out.

As a BAME person, I felt under siege by the recent hatred by Stephen Yucky Lemon and crew and fantasised about leaving.

For Jews it must be even worse as one of the smallest minorities in the UK.

Why does it matter?

I suppose maybe people are wondering where is better.

Awful to feel unsafe in the UK though, I am sorry that people feel this way.
