My husband is talking to the neighbors

Brit in the USA, for the past few evenings our house and our neighbors have been rocking from close explosions. They are LOUD, and shake the house and wake the kids.

Today it started early and our next door neighbor came over and asked DH if he would back him up going to find the source. DH agreed, I was annoyed so kinda pushed him to go.

2 hours later (and a few explosions) he is texting me pictures. He found a neighbor a little way down the road who was teaching his grandkids to make pipebombs! WTF. Now DH and the neighbor are hanging out drinking beer with this guy learning to make bombs. WTF

We are in the depths of Maine, our town scrapped the police department 3 years ago due to budget cuts. We rely on the County Sheriff.

At least 2 out of the 3 have had children already so are, unfortunately, no longer eligible. To win a Darwin, a candidate needs to have not reproduced and to have not managed to pass on their stupidity genes.

DH came back, according to him he is a nice older guy, ex marine seems pretty harmless, apologized for disturbing us.

DH wants to leave it at that, they don't think he is up to anything sinister.

And where are you in the USA? I ask because if I call the police via 911 right now and tell them an adult is making pipe bombs in his garage while in the company of children they would be there in 2 minutes. 2 hr response time is 🤣 op.

I think you're probably American . We British spell the word 'Neighbour' like this, not 'Neighbor' which you used four times in the first post . And we don't normally refer to ourselves as 'Brit'.

A long time ago I changed my spell check to US English, because that the language here. I got used to using the term Brit

Well that took an unexpected turn. And I have to admit, made me laugh.

Sounds a bit like the case of the man who wanted to sue his solicitors for negligence in dealing with a criminal charge against him. It sounded like a sad case, as he had both his legs and one of his hands amputated - until you discovered that the reason for his injuries, and the reason he was in prison, was that a bomb he was making had gone off in his lap ...

Reminds me of a story my DH tells me of how he and his BF were making explosives with a chemistry set and household ingredients in their teens in DH’s dad’s garage. Thought they were being safe and secretive until DH’s mum came home from work and ‘dropped’ her handbag onto the garage floor getting out of the car. It exploded. My MiL still remembers that moment today 40+ years later. She screamed so loud all the neighbours came running.

Sounds like epic fun - what did you say the address was again? Beats making nitrogen triiodide and all the fun that comes with a low grade contact explosive - not much of a bang but the purple smoke is a laugh (definitely didn't have a misspent youth).

Sounds like where we lived in California, out in the mountains with Sheriffs who had to cover the whole county with two cars and took forever to come out.
