Mr Frosty

Inspired by another thread! So many of us of a certain age have been denied a Mr Frosty in childhood, AIBU to think it’s astounding that anyone ever received one?! If so, did it live up to expectation or was it actually a massive disappointment? Such a feeling of nostalgia remembering circling it in the Kay’s and Gratton catalogue every winter!

I didn't get a Mr Frosty and also didn't get the money box that dispensed tiny bars of Cadbury chocolate.

Also wasn't allowed a jelly bag for school.

I think being denied a Mr Frosty is what has driven so many of us to get oversized freezer with a built in Mr Frosty style ice crusher.

DurhamDurham · 06/10/2025 08:04

I wanted one and never got one so I bought it for my girls when they were little. It was a bit rubbish but they enjoyed the challenge of producing a teaspoon of crushed ice in ten minutes 😆 no regrets for buying it!

I loved my Sindy! She was way more beautiful than Barbie 😁
I did however REALLY want the horse to go with. That never happened 😥

I desperately wanted the Sindy horse too, but that was either unavailable or unaffordable, so my parents gave me just the carriage and reins, leaving me to imagine the horse.

RedRiverShore5 · 06/10/2025 07:57

I was too old for one but got DS one in the 90s as I could remember being denied a Spirograph when I was young so didn't want DS to go through the same trauma😄

Mr Frosty was a bit rubbish though

IamnotSethRogan · 06/10/2025 07:52

I got one. My dad used it first to make pinacoladas.

Aaah...the nostalgia!
I knew it was a pointless case asking for a Mr Frosty, but I begged for a Lights Alive to no avail.
I also coveted my neighbours Strawberry Shortcake. It smelt divine. I would go around to their house, sit on her bed and hold it to my nose for ages, whilst the other kids played in the lounge.
I bought myself one several years ago on Ebay, and the smell, although faint, was still there.

A few years ago (in Canada anyway) some stores were selling reissues of the original Strawberry Shortcake. So of course it would have been rude not to buy one...I also have a couple of the dolls from the 2009 relaunch (which I sacreligiously prefer to the originals).

I didn't get a Mr frosty but I had the Snoopy machine that shaved ice 🙂

CrowMate · 06/10/2025 07:35

I’m another adult who bought themselves a Mr Frosty. I had dreams of frozen margaritas made by my frosty friend. As everyone else has said, could barely grate a single cube with it. I suspect they’re only still going as we 80s/90s kids fulfil our long term longing for one and they will disappear once we’ve all finally had one.

As for other toys I wanted but didn’t have, I really wanted one of those keepers- pink snails etc with lockable shells.

Then there were the Clarks shoes with the key in the sole. I got those, but a few days of walking scratched the clear window and they were just normal shoes.

mamagogo1 · 06/10/2025 07:31

I really wanted one and didn’t get one but i bought a version for my own dc - got used a couple of times and they just didn’t get my enthusiasm Confused

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 06/10/2025 07:28

Always always wanted one and my mum always said
no. Bought one for —me— my kids last summer and it was utterly shite.

I was not allowed a cabbage patch kid as my mum found them creepy 😂. Tbf, she wasn't wrong!

I loved my fashion wheel!

Applepe · 06/10/2025 07:01

My brother got one, Christmas 1985. Absolute rubbish. Didn’t crush ice and the flavoured syrups supplied were iffy to say the least. Probably wouldn’t get past Food or Trading Standards today.

tragichero · 06/10/2025 07:00

I wanted a Barbie house!

(Wouldn't have kicked a Mr Frosty out of bed either, though....)

Unsettledtoday · 06/10/2025 06:59

Mine broke on Boxing Day. Handle snapped. Still not over it🤣🤣🤣. Had a fashion wheel though, it was great and my parents kept it so my daughter also played with it.

peanutbcolada · 06/10/2025 06:58

Love that so many people bought themselves one a Mr frosty as adults.... I wanted an a la carte kitchen until I was well into my teens. I did have a version of a fashion wheel and it was really good. Who had the phones?! Was desperate to play with those - why did they never work?

BCBird · 06/10/2025 06:57

I wanted a Mr Frosty. Mate had one. Said it was crap!

PotterHead1985 · 06/10/2025 04:33

Probably quite simply because we were all told no!!! The more no's, the more we must have it!!

I was one who also go sindys instead of barbies.

I hankered after sylvanian families, but knew there was no way mam could afford them. They were spenny as heck.

Also wanted a cabbage patch kid but she hated them so that was a nope.

I was SO into Cabbage Patch Kids! They weren't on my radar until my godparents moved back from the US and their daughter introduced me to them. I think i had about 3, as well as assorted paraphernalia like carriers, high chair, playpen etc. I still have one...

I wanted one never got one but my friend did and I remember the handle being really hard to turn.

malificent7 · 06/10/2025 05:10

Why were we all so beguiled by this plastic monstrosity?!

JimJonesLivesInMyHead · 06/10/2025 04:21

Hankered after a Mr Frosty throughout my entire childhood, never got one. So I bought one as a special treat to my inner child when I was about 30.

Utter pile of gobshite.
