Dip kiss at weddings

As far as I'm concerned this "dip kiss" signifies dominance to the wife to be submissive. I hate it and so do a lot of photographers

It’s just for wedding photos. At least it is here in the US. People don’t kiss like that day-to-day. If you don’t like it, don’t do it. Have the wedding you want, not the one social media wants you to think you want.

My husband would drop me if we tried that and then his back would 'go' trying to lift me up!!!

pokewoman · 04/10/2025 18:29

So dont do it at your own wedding?

ainsleysanob · 04/10/2025 18:28

My husband doesn’t have the arm strength to dip kiss me.

Didimum · 04/10/2025 18:26

It ain’t that deep, babe.

whatwhatwhatisgoingon · 04/10/2025 18:24

I have never heard of a “dip kiss”. But I had exactly what I wanted at my wedding and I think everyone else is entitled to do the same?

MagicLoop · 04/10/2025 18:19

Ot just looks a bit silly and show-offy to me, not especially submissive.

rainbowunicorn · 04/10/2025 18:18

The longer I am on mumsnet the more convinced I am the some people.juat sit at home thinking up new ways to be offended. If you dont like it dont do it.

Fifthtimelucky · 04/10/2025 18:16

I’m no doubt showing my age when I say that it looks incredibly uncomfortable!

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/10/2025 18:16

Why does everything on Sm have to become a ‘thing’. Do something, don’t do something. But for heaven’s sake don’t do something because you saw it in Insta to put on Insta.

Petrolitis · 04/10/2025 18:14

Unless I'm marrying John Paul Sigmundson, that would be unlikely to happen

5foot5 · 04/10/2025 18:13

Oh I have seen the photo now. I don't think I have seen anyone do that in real life, only in films. I personally think it looks a bit silly but I wouldn't read anymore in to it.

Risky too unless you are both in good shape. The potential for a humiliating fall or someone putting their back out is surely quite high.

DeanStockwelll · 04/10/2025 18:12

I'd much rather see this that the more recent trend of pushing faces into cakes or smearing it on each other

Pleasegetmeacoffeesotired · 04/10/2025 18:10

The OP means this for those who haven't heard of it.

The first and only time I saw a dip kiss at a wedding was when my very strong willed (certainly not submissive) friend married an American. At 'you may kiss the bride' they did an incredible dip kiss which took us all by surprise and was quite lovely. The photographer got the vicar looking quite thrilled!

5foot5 · 04/10/2025 18:10

What in the world is a dip kiss? I have never heard of it.

landlordhell · 04/10/2025 18:09

Thats part of a dance isn’t it? Not normally done at the altar. Romantic .

Absentosaur · 04/10/2025 18:08

It’s a bit tacky.. but each to their own 🤷‍♀️

Never heard of it.

brunettemic · 04/10/2025 18:06

My word 😂🙄

Berlinlover · 04/10/2025 18:05

I think it just looks awkward.

PoliteSquid · 04/10/2025 18:04

Not everything is a feminist issue or cause for railing against the patriarchy! It’s just a kiss.

SadOldLadyOfTheLowlands · 04/10/2025 18:04

sweeneytoddsrazor · 04/10/2025 18:02

So dont have it at your wedding

Who would care what a wedding photographer should think about any aspect of their wedding?
