Is this comment creepy?

My friend's neighbour, a man in his 50s, sent her a message about her DD10. She'd been playing with a group of other kids on their bikes in the close where they live. He said
"You need to watch [child's name]. Puberty and fertility are coming, there's oestrogen in the air and it's drawing in the local boys, even if they don't realise it."

It's weird right?

Maybe he did see something and was concerned about it, but FFS 🤮
He has her number from the close WhatsApp group.

Block him OP.

Sorry, I mean tell your 'friend' to block him.

Yerdug · 04/10/2025 17:49

That’s gross. Is there a law that allows your friend to check if any paedophiles are nearby?

Frankblackwife · 04/10/2025 17:36

Exceedingly

ruethewhirl · 04/10/2025 17:35

UGH.

If he's a paedo why would he tip off the mum that he's interested? Far more likely he has seen something that bothered him.

Believe it or not, those kind of people genuinely don't know what is appropriate or inappropriate in that sense. He genuinely may not be aware that what he said is enough to raise suspicion.

After you report this man, he may say that his comment came from the fact he had witnessed something concerning and this is just his "old man" way of communicating that. So to counteract him doing that, you ask him right away what he has seen that would make him say that about this child.

He may have seen something going on between your DD and a boy, rather an odd way to express it perhaps he was trying to phrase it in a physiological rather than sexual way. Keep an eye on the local boys I would say and ask your DD if any of them make her uncomfortable.

Defence against what? No responsible adult thinks that is an appropriate way to communicate a safeguarding concern about a child.

Because it is something he may use as a defence later on so it's best to put him on the spot with that one right away. It also covers the.minimal chance that he genuinely thought that was the way to approach it. If it was, I would want to know what he's seen myself.

Why did people think OP needs to find out if he's noticed something concerning? If he was genuinely concerned he would have sent a very different message.

"Hi OP, I've noticed a few older boys hanging around and behaving a bit inappropriately towards your daughter. I thought you would want to know."

The message he sent screams disgusting pervert. OP doesn't need to take him seriously, she needs to tell him to stay away from her daughter.

mbosnz · 04/10/2025 16:59

I'd be establishing first, if there was something specific that had aroused his concern.

Either way I'd be asking him if he intended to come across as a possible paedophile. . .

Viviennemary · 04/10/2025 15:58

Report this to the police. It's beyond weird. Perhaps he has Dementia.

Some men are just perverts and feel entitled to say anything they please. Keep her away from him, OP.

BallerinaRadio · 04/10/2025 16:58

Isn't he just saying her daughter is at an age where boys and girls are discovering each other in new ways, albeit phrased in perhaps the worst way possible?

Hatty65 · 04/10/2025 16:58

Why does this man have her mobile phone number?

Why on earth are you or she asking if this is creepy? I'd have reported him to the police and blocked him from ever contacting me again.

FaceBothered · 04/10/2025 16:57

No, not weird at all OP.

In fact it's completely normal.

What makes you think it isn't?

shhblackbag · 04/10/2025 16:56

Utterly inappropriate. So gross that he thought that is OK.

BalloonLabboon · 04/10/2025 16:56

If this was a real text message, would you seriously need to ask?

Of course it’s weird.

???

JLou08 · 04/10/2025 16:55

I'd be reporting that to the police.

JMSA · 04/10/2025 16:53

Very strange indeed.

wineosaurus4 · 04/10/2025 16:50

Report it to the police ASAP. Horrifying.

Onlyinthrees · 04/10/2025 16:46

I’d be straight on to the police.
