11 million immigrants since 2000. When I

Sorry, it’s another immigration one.

I always see immigration discussed in terms of race, religion, who may or may not be a good fit for the UK, whether it’s by small boats - to be honest, this is not the biggest worry for me.

The biggest worry is the sheer increase in our population and how many people this country can reasonably accommodate. We are now 8th in Europe for population density - only behind Belgium and the Netherlands, and a handful of places like Vatican City and the Channel Islands. At present we have net migration of around 500,000 a year.

I’m worried that the key issues of overpopulation are being overlooked to make this conversation all about race. What about our pollution levels, wildlife habitats, flood risk, food security, infrastructure? Will this eventually be a polluted city state country? It seems to be heading that way.

Posters always say we need immigration, but we have already welcome 11 million since 2000. If that still isn’t enough; what is? Or do we just keep going?

That doesn't negate my point. Who is going to educate your children in a London school? Immigrants! Who is going to fix your broken leg? Immigrants! Who is going to pick up your rubbish? Immigrants!

And who is going to educate their children? More immigrants. Etc

Why doesn’t anybody ever answer the logical question, which is how many people can comfortably live in the UK?

Immigration is what is needed - supports an aging population - who do you think is going to fund your state pension and look after you when you need help?

And when they age? You need even more people. How long does it keep going up?

Haha...the fact that you think the British born population could ensure smooth running of this country's public services is laughable.

Edited

yep - prior to 2000 all our public services were terrible, we all lived in abject squalor and poverty, most people could barely read and write, and everyone married their cousin...

JaneEyre40 · 04/10/2025 09:46

CatchingtheCat · 04/10/2025 09:35

On the contrary, you see the impact of immigration on demand for public services.

That doesn't negate my point. Who is going to educate your children in a London school? Immigrants! Who is going to fix your broken leg? Immigrants! Who is going to pick up your rubbish? Immigrants!

That is incredible racist. Imagine saying that about another country’s population?

And you think that whole 11 million is immigrants? I think you've had a bit of a mare here and should probably delete this post

People are living longer… which partly explains the population increase, along with births etc. it’s not 11m migrants.

Livelovebehappy · 04/10/2025 09:44

I think the many unskilled workers coming in are going to be taking out far more than they pay in.

Depends whether you think money is all a person can contribute or not....

Im an immigrant, been here 30 years. I’ve paid tax all this time, never got benefits. I know of a British born person who has never worked, has 2 children, got herself a good benefits lawyer. Never worked, children go to state-paid private schools because SEN whilst indulging in very expensive hobbies as a lifestyle choice. Go figure. But I’m the bad guy here?

(1) I am sure that you are not the sort of person the average Farage (spit) supporter wants to get rid of.

(2) I am sure that half the country would support deporting british criminal layabout types if they could. It is not our fault that immigrants can be deported in a way that Brits can't.

(3) And following on from (2)... whilst we should treat immigrants will respect and according to the law, surely you must understand that no sane country will ever regard immigrants exactly like native born people. If you and your family are here for decades then the kids you have here, and their kids will become ever more embedded and british, but as someone born abroad surely you never expected to be treated exactly like a native?

You think immigrants don’t have babies? I look forward to your data to back that up.

Of course they do, but they also die. So they, along with people born in the UK, are contributing towards birth and death rates. You said I was ignoring who was responsible for those births - immigrants make up a small proportion of the UK population, feel free to provide some stats that show that they give birth at a higher rate and die at a lower rate than people born in the UK. Otherwise their impact on overall birth to death rates is going to be lower than the impact of those born in the United Kingdom

Tell me you know nothing about food production….

Exactly. They really, really think they’re immune to global conflict and that we will always have cheap foreign labour to grow and import our food.

Immigration is what is needed - supports an aging population - who do you think is going to fund your state pension and look after you when you need help?

Who will fund the immigrant worker’s state pensions when they’re old and have followed our birth rate patterns? More immigration. Do you have a total in mind or would you like the UK to be a city state in a couple of hundred years?

We import more food partly because our tastes & culinary habits have altered over the last 100 years!

Where would you report hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of British citizens to? That’s not an option. Curbing immigration is.

*the impact of years of underfunding and running down of public services

But that’s irrelevant surely? We can’t go back and change that failing by successive governments. We’re in the here and now, so need to work with the situation we now have, which is an infrastructure that’s on its knees, and which is going to take many years to be fixed.

Parker231 · 04/10/2025 09:42

Uggbootsforever · 04/10/2025 09:12

The older generations are bigger but they were here pre-2000 so haven’t added to the rise.

Immigration is what is needed - supports an aging population - who do you think is going to fund your state pension and look after you when you need help?

PinkFrogss · 04/10/2025 09:42

JamieCannister · 04/10/2025 09:39

If the excess births are down to immigrants who choose not to integrate and despise western values like tolerance of gay men or the existence of women's rights, and teach their kids to be the same, then it might as well all be immigrants.

In any case the truth (as measured by government stats) is irrelevant.

Don't get me wrong, I like logical decisions based on an analysis of the data, but we are well beyond that.

Fact is, whatever the truth about precise numbers, a massive chunk of the population think we have too much immigration and lots of bad immigration and no amount of data is going to convince them otherwise. Because when they walk down the high street it looks nothing like it did 10 years ago, let alone 30.

You can try to convince people that their perception of life in the UK is wrong, but you will fail, and all the time you tell people they're idiots for believing stats like OPs you will see Farage's (spit - disgusting grifter) popularity rise still further.

So it doesn’t matter if what people think is factually correct or not, we should just accept it and act on those views as if they were factually correct? I think that was tried in Nazi Germany actually….

CatchingtheCat · 04/10/2025 09:42

PinkFrogss · 04/10/2025 09:39

Presumably that it’s immigrants having babies (and immigrants not dying I guess?). Will await their data to back it up.

This has been the case for years though. During ww2 we weren’t producing nearly enough food to sustain the population. We would’ve had mass starvation if it weren’t for rationing. We’ve had 75 years to rectify that and still haven’t.

But immigration and labour’s policies is making it much worse. Saying we have had to import food for decades doesn’t make the fact we have to import far more better
