Colleague sent me message by mistake

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 17:15

Our team work remotely but we get together quarterly in person. Yesterday was a meeting in the office in the morning followed by a social so it was casual dress.

I was messaging a colleague earlier back and forth about work matters and he sent something really random and then instantly deleted it but I saw it pop up as a notification so read it.

It said ‘she knew what she was doing in those leggings’ with a sweat emoji.

Now I was the only one wearing leggings yesterday so it was definitely about me. This was at about 3.30 today and I finished at 4 so nothing more was said and I expect my colleague thinks he deleted it before I saw it.

Would you say something if you were me or pretend/forget I ever saw it?

Male colleague should understand that his comment was out of order, and some businesses would regard it as sexual harassment, and misuse under IT policies.

Op needs to understand that scrunch bum leggings , no matter how good she is lucky enough to look in them, are very 2024.

exaltedwombat · 04/10/2025 17:46

You were dressed for the evening ‘social’. Didn’t you choose clothes that you looked good in?
But yes, by today’s twisted standards, a man commenting on it is a firing offence. What a world we have built!

MissMoneyFairy · 03/10/2025 17:18

I'd ask what did he mean by his comment about your leggings

I think you should say something about who are you talking about and what do you think they were doing?
But if it was me I would probably try and forget it and then never wear leggings again as I am someone who always avoids conflict!

DrowningInSyrup · 04/10/2025 14:47

Why did she dress with her butt crack showing then. She self proclaims she has an amazing arse and she was showing it off. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just silly and too intent on trying to say the 'right thing'. If she wants to show her bottom to the world then fine, but let's just call a spade a spade and recognise it for exactly what it is.

I posted early on in this thread and hadn't seen the OP's updates, which apparently aren't great.

ginasevern · 04/10/2025 09:21

Thank you. I can't understand posters who say it's a compliment. Perhaps they're happy to objectified as part of a meat market.

He might say he wasn't talking about her prove it.

People should understand that employers don't need to prove it. Not to a level of "beyond reasonable doubt".

Employers will police sexual harassment matters on "a balance of probabilities".

Netcurtainnelly · 04/10/2025 12:39

123ZYX · 03/10/2025 17:24

Of course it’s sexist - it’s objectifying her. He wouldn’t have said the same about a man.

And I agree with reporting it and expecting chat logs to be reviewed. It’s not acceptable and employers are required to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment.

He might say he wasn't talking about her prove it.

But then OP came back on here to say how her BF and ex love her ass, repeated their sexualised comments about hers, and then also commented on how her choice of clothing would look awful on her (larger) colleagues.

So she is happy to wear those clothes and show off her asset. She admits she knew what she was doing. She boasts about “compliments” she has received from other men. She is also happy to make comments about the bodies of her female colleagues.

So don’t you think her OP was a little disingenuous?

WashYourDamnRice · 04/10/2025 12:15

His message wasn't appropriate (and I'd feel really uncomfortable working alongside him from now on), but neither is wearing leggings riding up your batty to work unless it's a gym. The faux-naiveté of some people that women should be able to wear whatever to wherever and whoever disagrees is jealous or a misogynist is really tired.

AzureCats · 04/10/2025 12:11

Woops forgot to say I don't agree with a colleague sending messages about another colleagues appearance. That is not OK. Personally either I'd ignore it, or if we had that kind of relationship make him know you saw the message just to watch him be embarrassed and squirm. Then laugh it off.

AzureCats · 04/10/2025 12:10

Scrunch bum leggings are not appropriate attire for the workplace.

I like wearing thick black leggings (non scrunch) for comfort but only at home or if I'm outdoors hiking in an area where not too many people are. I don't want my colleagues or friends seeing my arse crack so know it's not OK to wear them without skirts or long tops. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm wearing black leggings today but I have a meeting later with a new person. First thing this morning I was like "got to style this outfit with a skirt so I don't turn up at a new client's house with my arse out". It's just basic decency imo.

They are hardly the most flattering item of clothing for the slimmer lady

I see women in them regularly and there’s nothing quite so ick inducing - particularly the flesh coloured ones.

Redpeach · 04/10/2025 11:34

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 20:40

Of course not. My point was that they are hardly the most flattering item of clothing for the larger lady.

I’d probably call him out on it.

“what was the deleted comment about leggings?”
I don’t think I’d report him.

You can’t control people making comments like this however inappropriate.

Well in a work situation you absolutely can, and if you are the employer, should control this.

Colleague shouldn't have said it and "scrunch bum" leggings aren't office wear.

NorthXNorthWest · 04/10/2025 11:18

Thephantom · 04/10/2025 09:33

-I don’t need my work colleagues to point out I have a nice arse. I know I do. An ex once said if he could choose how he’d leave this earth then he’d spend an afternoon buried underneath it..

So it's fair comment on the part of your colleagues -like he said - you knew what you were doing when you wore those leggings. You wanted attention on your arse and you got it. So you've come back here for more attention on your arse.

And to demonstrate that she is an self obsessed arse.

Sugarpopsicle · 04/10/2025 11:15

Shelby2010 · 04/10/2025 10:48

I also suspect that the OP has previously made bitchy comments on her colleagues clothes choices. I can almost hear her saying ‘I wouldn’t have chosen those leggings if my arse was as big as hers!’.

We do judge people by their appearance, I’m judging the OP to be an attention seeking arse-hole. Quite literally.

😆

Death by bottom is a bit much

hohummm1 · 04/10/2025 10:58

Goodness, it's almost like everything about the OP's posts are to create the maximum reaction of outrage in both directions...

Interesting, OP, that you recall that you were the only person wearing leggings. I guess you spent quite some time noting what the sea of 'larger lady' colleagues were wearing at this 'forward thinking, ran by strong women' PR firm?

This is particularly funny, because in my experience with PR firms (I haven't worked at one but have worked with several), staff tends to be pretty well turned out.

Shelby2010 · 04/10/2025 10:48

Namechangerage · 04/10/2025 10:15

The leggings are trashy and not suitable work wear. Have you actually googled ‘Scrunch Leggings’?

I’m now convinced that the guy was just as likely to be mocking her for wearing inappropriate clothes to work/attention seeking vs being sleazy.

OP has a disgustingly inflated sense of ego - she clearly thinks her arse is beautiful annd heaven sent, and nobody else can compare. And a disgusting view of women too - why the hell can’t women over 16 wear leggings?!

They’re just not appropriate for work whatever your size..

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 04/10/2025 10:38

So OP isn’t happy with an unprofessional comment about her clothing/appearance and then makes an unprofessional comment herself regarding whether she thinks her colleagues are slim enough to wear a certain outfit.

Pot calling kettle.

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 20:17

This is all very entertaining I must say, I didn’t expect the replies to exceed page 1!

A couple of points:

-I don’t need my work colleagues to point out I have a nice arse. I know I do. An ex once said if he could choose how he’d leave this earth then he’d spend an afternoon buried underneath it..

-I work for a PR company, forward thinking, ran by strong women. They have no issue with casual office wear and the founder often wears similar leggings herself.

So the founder is size 16 or not size 16? Based on your previous post suggesting all your colleagues are the wrong size to wear scrunch leggings.
everyone says they look like a big sphincter from behind so that’s probably what he meant.

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 20:40

Bobnobob · 04/10/2025 09:26

Wow, pages of women telling the OP she didn’t look good in the leggings and leggings are trashy and not suitable workwear. Then tripping over themselves to explain that it’s not jealousy and they too are attractive but too classy to wear leggings. Classic MN.

OP you are young and fit and looked good in your outfit. Your male colleagues appreciated it and messages each other to say so. It’s a non issue really.

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 18:24

With respect to my colleagues, and I love most of the ladies dearly. But the average size is probably 16, so I don’t think leggings feature too prominently in their wardrobe!

Was with you till this and now you can fuck off. I wore leggings at size 16, is there a reason I shouldn't?
