Colleague sent me message by mistake

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 17:15

Our team work remotely but we get together quarterly in person. Yesterday was a meeting in the office in the morning followed by a social so it was casual dress.

I was messaging a colleague earlier back and forth about work matters and he sent something really random and then instantly deleted it but I saw it pop up as a notification so read it.

It said ‘she knew what she was doing in those leggings’ with a sweat emoji.

Now I was the only one wearing leggings yesterday so it was definitely about me. This was at about 3.30 today and I finished at 4 so nothing more was said and I expect my colleague thinks he deleted it before I saw it.

Would you say something if you were me or pretend/forget I ever saw it?

Yes! I often feel like…..if only I could draw attention to my bum hole…I might feel like an attractive and desirable woman again!

If there's one thing I hate about having to wear a suit to work, it's that almost noone is thinking about my bum crack 😥

FrodoBiggins · 04/10/2025 21:30

I had to Google what "scrunch" leggings are. Never seen a pair in real life I don't think (certainly not at work lol) but are they actually supposed to recreate having a wedgie? Why??

You’ve taken some stick here OP which I do find quite sad, and to be honest, comes across as pure jealousy of a confident woman who happens to have a cracking backside!

Fair play to you wearing clothes you are confident in - I bet most of those commenting wish they could pull off such a pair. I know I certainly couldn’t these days!

I mean my DP doesn’t complain when I wear them, so each to their own!

So you do wear them for bum attention??

I think you started this post to show off how amazing your bum is 🤣. You know it and so does the messages, your ex and your DP.

and you clearly think you’re better than other ladies who apparently can’t wear these awful leggings (each to their own - this is just my opinion).

like I said before - I’m all for women wearing what they want BUT there’s a time and a place.

Ithink he probably shouldn’t have said that. But you’ve posted on hear body shaming too…..shows how easily it’s done.

edited for typo

Sleazy compliment you weren't meant to see. Maintain your dignity, ignore it and keep your distance from him.

First of all the ex comment - ew. The in depth tale of bury me under your arse scenario would be a new ick unlocked.

As for your work colleagues, i'd probably be looking for a classier gaf - one pred colleague would be bad enough, but two (given the intended recipient was also at the work do, ergo must be an equally desperate creep) is pitiful stuff. Smacks of a questionable culture.

I'd feel insulted by the message, but I wouldn't say anything directly, i'd probably just throw several cringe expressions his way next time.

I know, that ex comment made me want to sick in my mouth.

Literal bottom feeder.

This is all very entertaining I must say, I didn’t expect the replies to exceed page 1!

A couple of points:

-I don’t need my work colleagues to point out I have a nice arse. I know I do. An ex once said if he could choose how he’d leave this earth then he’d spend an afternoon buried underneath it..

-I work for a PR company, forward thinking, ran by strong women. They have no issue with casual office wear and the founder often wears similar leggings herself.

Hmm - I’d ignore to be honest unless it’s part of a pattern of sexist behaviour.

“she knows what she’s doing” - probably factual? Based on the fact you’re wearing scrunch leggings that are literally made to highlight your bum and seek attention. I mean - why else would you wear them?? They don’t look that comfy and at my workplace would not be appropriate. Then you pair it with a tight top. Again - your choice not sure how that covers everything?

im all for women being able to wear what they want - but I do think calling HR is a bit much in this case?

JaquelineHide · 04/10/2025 21:09

Scrunch bum leggings my arse!

pineapplesundae · 04/10/2025 21:02

Depends on whether or not this someone you’re interested in getting to know better. Are you both single? I don’t think you should overthink it. It was meant to be a private conversation.

pineapplesundae · 04/10/2025 21:00

Legally Blonde reference.

JasmineTea11 · 04/10/2025 20:59

Forget about it. Non event.

DitzyDerbyBabe86 · 04/10/2025 20:54

Christ alive, there are some sad people here. Reporting to HR? Get a grip people.
I’m sure the ones suggesting you report are jealous and not the type of people that ever get hit on. Yep, I said it ✌🏻

So when they said you 'knew what you were doing' - they weren't wrong!

Give over.

I am late 40's and just think people need to calm down. Literally who cares, what a fuss about nothing.

FrodoBiggins · 04/10/2025 20:22

123ZYX · 03/10/2025 17:24

Of course it’s sexist - it’s objectifying her. He wouldn’t have said the same about a man.

And I agree with reporting it and expecting chat logs to be reviewed. It’s not acceptable and employers are required to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment.

It's not sexual harassment to privately tell someone you think someone else is sexy. If OP thinks he sent it to her on purpose (even if he then thought better of it) that is another matter of course.

Also, leggings to work?

Lalalalalalalalalalaoohoohwee · 04/10/2025 20:21

Not sure how I'm meant to be voting on this but I'd definitely ask him what he meant by that.

dcthatsme · 04/10/2025 20:21

Since you know you look hot in your leggings, are you surpised that male colleagues noticed you and maybe commented about you in a positive light? Is this a no no as some posters are suggesting? Do you find this comment threatening or inappropriate? I think it's your call whether you take this anywhere or choose to park it. It's quite a gently expressed compliment. Personally I don't read it as lewd or creepy although some posters do. I do think if women look gorgeous they are going to get people admiring them. However, the people who admire them have to be respectful and keep their lust in check. This is one of the big problems of our time.

CrystalShoe · 04/10/2025 20:09

TimeConsuming · 04/10/2025 19:59

For all the people saying it’s a compliment, it’s actually a “blame the woman for my bad behaviour” comment.

”she knew what she was doing” is a way to claim some kind of consent for objectification. It’s a vile comment.

Yeah, the "she knew what she was doing" comment is truly sickening. I've heard men say that before when women are just existing in regular clothes. Some of them seem to think that we're forever calculating how best to show off our sexy bits and purposely tease men. It's an absolutely gross attitude that has its roots in the manosphere/incel space.

JournalistEmily · 04/10/2025 20:07

Pretend you didn’t see it.

At the school where I worked a female MDA regularly wore these leggings. She walked with a very definite wiggle. One day a group of year 1 children asked her if her knickers had got stuck up her bum. She changed to jogging bottoms afterwards.

😂😂😂

CrystalShoe · 04/10/2025 20:02

OP, if you don't like your colleague looking at your arse, send him the Schumer Milk Milk Lemonade sketch that I tried to link above! That'll bring him right back down to earth! 😂
