Bonkers African Tribe in Scottish Woodland Claiming Ancestral Rights

Not dissing the people of Jedburgh - but it's a very small place with not much going on. This tribe are local celebs with loads of followers on line and comments on their social media posts. Some people want a bit of that.

I thought I read that people are donating things to them, similar mindset Im sure to the posters here who just think its no big deal and live and let live.

Her facebook account is really disturbing.

Lots of stuff about her children being stolen from her, complete with pictures of the children. She appears to have had lengthy dealings with the police and social services in England, and has perhaps moved to Scotland to try to get into a different system.

Omg. Educate yourself before you spout nonsense like this.

Bonkers is a word from the 40s and started in the navy or army and was sued to describe someone slightly drunk or acting silly. It was never a derogatory word use seriously against people with mental health issues. It’s always been a tongue in cheek word. You can’t just subscribe new meaning to a word that’s been used lightheartedly for 80 years.

No one is calling some poor suicidal teen bonkers.

The whole thing is utterly mad. They are a bonkers “African tribe.” Because they aren’t a tribe at all!

(I was born in Africa btw, have all sorts of connections to it. I’m pretty fucked off at this criminal couple trying to use “tribal heritage” as an excuse for grooming and trafficking and enslaving.)

They've refused all offers of help. After they were released from jail they were given a property down south but preferred to live in the woods.

For anyone who doesn't know the background and thinks they're harmless, do some background reading about the young Texan girl, the mysterious death of their last 'handmaiden' slave and what happened to their 8 children.

The problem is that their handmaiden claims she is there of her own free will. Unless her family can provide enough evidence to get her sectioned, which is rightly very hard to do, she is an adult and free to live and consort with whoever she chooses.

Anyone saying these guys are not doing harm - they are trashing the land they are on (I mean, do you think they have a sanitation system and rubbish collection?) and they have been very aggressive to the locals. As PP have pointed out, it has already cost private landowners thousands to evict them and God knows how much it is costing the council. It's struggling for cash, like most councils and the local police force is already under staffed and overstretched.

Because its not a pejorative. Those of us who have been clients of and working within MH services dont see it that way. At the end of the day it is bonkers. Theres no rationalising the behaviour of people at times.

As someone who lived in Glasgow for a long time and " mental" being part of the Glasgow patter I actually quite like "mental". Billy Connelly and his " pure dead mental" springs to mind
But I wouldn't use it about someone who had mental health issues.

Before i opened the story I wondered “is the woman in her 40s?” because as perimenopause crashed down upon me, effing off to live in the woods and tell everyone I am a queen sounds like a master plan!

and the mother of the american woman, has talked a lot about how she was groomed online by them at 19.
It very much sounds like the pair are grifting abusers, trying to run some kind of cult and the american woman is vunerable and has been caught up in it.
