Boyfriend has described himself as “pussy whipped”

I don’t know if im just being extra sensitive because im on my period and feeling crap in general, so I want some perspective.

my boyfriend and I have been together for about four months. We’re both 26. He’s sent me a screenshot of a conversation he was having with one of his friends this evening, where he agrees with his friend who says he’s “pussy whipped” and he shoots back and basically says the sex is so good I can have whatever I want.

this entire exchange has just made me feel really
grossed out, because I think that’s something I wouldn’t discuss with anyone else. AIBU to feel like this?

Yuck. Leave before you end up stuck having kids with him.

Shellyash · 01/10/2025 21:33

It's fine. Stupid expression but if he's generally ok just tell him that's not your choice of words so don't use it. And move on.

StrawberrySourpatchKids · 01/10/2025 20:45

He’s, okay. Certainly not amazing, not awful but he doesn’t do a lot to make me feel special

You deserve better.

KeenGreen · 01/10/2025 21:29

Yuck… no just no!

Then throw him back. You can do better.

I spent far too long in a similar relationship that I ended last year. I am exactly twice your age and should definitely know better than to spend my time on a man who doesnt make me feel special. So as I didnt learn that lesson until too late, I hope I can pass that on to you in the hopes you dont make the same mistake.

In his head it was "I said the sex was so good, thats a compliment, she will like that!", because thats all that matters to him. Find someone who keeps his brain in his head not his pants.

hyggetyggedotorg · 01/10/2025 21:26

Ewww. I’d be removing the “pussy” from the equation forthwith.

shuggles · 01/10/2025 21:25

@OwlBeThere man: yes she’s hot as hell, but more importantly she’s funny/kind/intelligent/not a piece of meat for you to objectify.

Is it not the opposite? The implication of "pussy whipped" is that the man has ascribed a queen-like or goddess-like status to the woman.

FrauPaige · 01/10/2025 21:24

@DollydaydreamTheThird

Bird????? You sound as bad as OPs boyfriend!

Yes, that's the point. I was giving an example of what he could have said to his male friend in his voice at 26 without being too vulgar.

It would have been totally irrelevant to OP's situation if I had suggested that her 26 year old boyfriend should speak like a woman in her 50s from the home counties that is old enough to be his mother

shuggles · 01/10/2025 21:15

This is the dilemma, of course.

Men are expected to be intensely attracted to their partners... but for some reason, just aren't supposed to verbalise it. Which all seems a bit odd to me.

Edited

Of course they can verbalise it

friend: dude you’re pussy whipped
man: ew that’s a gross expression. Please don’t talk about my gf like that.
friend: don’t you fancy her or something?
man: yes she’s hot as hell, but more importantly she’s funny/kind/intelligent/not a piece of meat for you to objectify.

It’s not hard.

Pistachiocake · 01/10/2025 21:20

suburberphobe · 01/10/2025 20:18

You deserve so much better than a man talking about "being pussy whipped".

What does that even mean?

I'm old

There was a clip on Big Bang Theory that explained it well, if you want to search it.
Not to my taste, but some people use it in the "Who's wearing the trousers now" sense, meaning they're happy that the woman is the boss in the relationship, not meaning it nastily. Personally, I'm not keen on it though, but I'm old.

Comtesse · 01/10/2025 21:19

Why would he want to forward this stupid comment to you? I sure young guys say dumb stuff to their mates, but why does he need to tell you about it? He sounds a bit dense to me…..

OwlBeThere · 01/10/2025 21:18

It’s more the fact he believes this to be a compliment for me.

Get rid .

There are definitely more respectful ways of getting that across!

Dontitalwaysseemtogo · 01/10/2025 21:15

He sounds immature.
It also sounds like him and his friend have been slagging you off as he’s told his mate something that makes him sound pussy whipped. He’s then not denied this, he’s made out that’s fine because of the good sex. Rather than sticking up for you and saying ‘no I’m not’ etc etc.
Also he clearly thinks it’s a compliment!

TheHateIsNotGood · 01/10/2025 21:13

Oh jeez - "pussy-whipped" is an old American expression which doesn't seem to translate very well into UK English. It's not actually about anyone's 'pussy' or even sex, it's just the same as that old UK saying about who 'wears the trousers' in the house.

You actually might not be that great at sex OP but your boyfriend loves you anyway but his friend thinks you're a bit of a bossy bitch that keeps his friend (your boyfriend) under your thumb.

Just as George Bernard Shaw was to have said: "England and America are two countries separated by a common language".

Pussy-whipped illustrates just what this adage was highlighting.

@StrawberrySourpatchKids I think telling his friend that he is happy with his girlfriend and the sex is amazing isn't problematic.

His choice of language is not to my liking and it should have been obvious that this was not share-worthy with his girlfriend. He just wanted to show you that he is into you and the guys teasing him does deter him. The execution was poor.

I don't think it automatically follows that he will be talking about the details of your sex life.

If you don't like him saying to his friends hat he "can have whatever he wants", you should tell him that.

"Pussy whipped? Absolutely mate, 100%! Have you seen my bird? Why would I go elsewhere!?" or words to that effect would have been better.

Bird????? You sound as bad as OPs boyfriend!

@StrawberrySourpatchKids go with your gut. This doesn't feel right to you because it isn't right. I used to go out with someone like this in my 20s and I stuck around far longer than I should have done. Obviously your decision but don't ignore the massive red flag he is showing you. Total lack of respect but he's trying to pass it off as a compliment. Be aware that a lot of lads your age watch all the Andrew Tate shite and see us as sex objects that they own. You are so much more than that. We all are. My partner now would never do anything like that and he cares about my feelings and making me happy not just the sex I'm giving him.

thereneverwasacloudyday · 01/10/2025 21:08

Forget about the messages, it’s a red herring really.

The real issue is that you’ve only been with him four months and he’s just ‘okay’ and ‘not amazing’ and ‘doesn’t make you feel special’. Why are you with him? At this very early stage of a relationship you should still be in the honeymoon phase where you’re smitten and get butterflies every time you see him! If you’re not really into him at this early stage, things are really not going to get better. You really don’t need to settle someone who isn’t amazing.

blankcanvas3 · 01/10/2025 21:00

Gross. I just asked DH and he said he’s never commented on our sex life with anybody and wouldn’t dare

JillyGiraffe · 01/10/2025 20:58

I don’t think I’ve ever said ‘ick’ before, but this one would definitely give me the ick. I’m not sure I could have sex with him again.

Tammy295 · 01/10/2025 20:58

StrawberrySourpatchKids · 01/10/2025 20:15

I think so? He sent it with just some laughing emojis and a heart!

And they say romance is dead....
He sounds very immature OP.

Househassles · 01/10/2025 20:57

he agrees with his friend who says he’s “pussy whipped”

So, he doesn't understand that his friend is insulting him (and probably you, and belittling the relationship), and has agreed with the friend and is sending the convo to you thinking you'll take it as a compliment? Is he actually dumb, or do you think this is some elaborate joke or psyop?

Either way, yeah, using the term at all is pretty vile.
