Reports that NATO are now in Ukraine

I am seeing reports from Asian media in last 24 hours or so that NATO is in Ukraine, in Odessa. Is this right, or are they on the border?

This is apparently to do with important elections in Moldova on Sunday which are linked to whether Moldova has its future in the EU or with closer ties to Russia. The president of Moldova is keen on the EU; there have been protests which indicate that there is support in the electorate for closer ties with Russia and some reports are saying it is a close race; there have apparently been nearly 300 arrests of people who are suspected to be organising protests who are pro Russian; the EU is saying "we mustn't let Moldova be lost". In some respects it is looking a bit like the Maiden Revolution in 2014 in Ukraine following which there was a change of government to one which was pro-EU and a trade agreement signed between Ukraine and the EU.

Why is NATO there, in what is essentially a war zone, after we had been told that it wouldn't be? Or is NATO on the border and not in Ukraine?

In relation to Moldova it is currently neutral, not a part of NATO (according to google), no other country is threatening them (afaik), they are not currently a part of the EU, so are the reports that NATO are there false?

Or is NATO there but temporarily and just as some sort of gesture?

Will NATO being in the area significantly increase the risk of direct clashes with Russia? What is the situation vis a vis Transnistria?

The trade agreement signed between Ukraine and the EU in 2014 had been being negotiated since around 2008, there had been a lot of funding given to Ukraine by the EU and the US in the intervening period - is it the same situation with Moldova? Ie has a draft agreement been negotiated?

@Notonthestairs And are you accusing me of lying incidentally? Are you saying that I didn't see any reports?

And @Notonthestairs why are you all asking for links when normally you say you won't look at random youtube videos?

You are entitled to your opinion, but I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about.

You are basing your question on reports that don’t appear to exist.
YABU.

What is your AIBU?

If nato is there, why are they there, what else is going on?

(Just to repeat with bold for those who are struggling to understand this:

If nato is there, why are they there, what else is going on?)

I'm talking about your original post saying that NATO are in Ukraine. There's absolutely nothing anywhere saying that they actually physically are.

I wrote, amongst other things:

"I am seeing reports from Asian media in last 24 hours or so that NATO is in Ukraine, in Odessa. Is this right, or are they on the border"

So just to repeat that with salient bits in bold:

"I am seeing reports from Asian media in last 24 hours or so that NATO is in Ukraine, in Odessa. Is this right, or are they on the border?"

Someone else said "Russia says they are, NATO says they are not"

I say "can you link where NATO says they are not?"

I am not sure whether Russia has said they were at that time in odessa or not, but I think they have said that if they are there it will be seen as a provocation. I haven't googled that specifically. I had not and have not seen anyone deny that nato are there, in response to what Russia has said.

So this is how the discussion stands, but you really want to see the Asian media I was talking about? Really? It isn't central to my post tbh.

The other points in the post - the democratic process, the opposition in Moldova and what they are saying, whether or not there is a EU draft agreement in place, the arrests - none of this is of interest to you, just the Asian media?! Which I actually asked for confirmation about, as opposed to asserting it was truth?

I give up...

Sorry about the rant, but this is just above and beyond.

Link to the Asian reports you’ve based this thread on! Surely you wouldn’t start a thread without them.

My post was not just about the asian reports, notonthestairs.

Agnes, you want a link to the asian reports too? You are all huddling around your screens wanting to see asian reports?

What are you talking about, the reports on the election, accusations that Russia is meddling, the democratic process or about nato being there?

Agnes, seriously, which bit are you referring to, what do you want evidence about?
As I just told your friend, even the BBC is reporting on the election and various perspectives on it.

If it’s been widely reported you won’t have a problem providing a link.

a link to what?

What's been reported is what Russia has said, not what actually has happened.

Links saying it has happened please or you're just sabre rattling.

If this is a genuine question, just have a look for yourself about the election and the issues, it is being widely reported. I haven't had time to look for good links but you will see quite a few both mainstream and not mainstream, it is worth looking at them all to get all the perspectives.

I would like to see links saying nato aren't there.

I would also like to see links about whether or not there is a draft EU agreement ready to be brought out and signed.

Do you have any reputable sources. Ones that are trustworthy?

I notice still no link from the OP to the supposed Asian reports.

But the OP is demanding other posters produce links showing NATO denying OP's claim...

I have responded to the post asking for links, actually. And I asked posters to provide links because they said categorically "NATO have denied it" which was one of my questions and I asked them to link their source. I asked questions rather than making categorical assertions.

My takeaway is that you are just trying to shut down conversation. The fact that food and fuel prices have sky rocketed in the EU and UK does not entitle us to question what money is being spent on and whether we can trust decisions, in your view.

Would you honestly vote to be part of the EU if we had a referendum in the UK today? And if so, why would that be?

In fact I alerted MNHQ last night as this is an "interesting first post" by this username.

However MNHQ have now told me it's a namechanger.

I couldn't possibly comment on whether the poster is genuine...

Perking, MNHQ have made it clear in the past that posters should not attack posters who have different political opinions from them, or call other posters "bots", and that doing so will be interpreted as troll hunting and will get you banned.

Your posts may not be interpreted as troll hunting but from my perspective you are just trying to cause trouble for the sake of it, reporting my post as an "interesting first post". It is because of posters like you that other posters like me have to change names.

Of course Russia are totally playing by the rules here themselves. What with all the drones and accidentally straying into other countries' airspace. Totes legit 🤔
