Caught him in a small lie - discard?

So super low stakes but I don't know if I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.

been talking to a guy from OLD for a couple weeks, not met up yet but have messaged alot and had a few phone calls (not video calls)

he sent me a selfie earlier of him at the gym....except he already sent me the same selfie a few days ago.

I asked is that from today, and he said yes. But it can't be!

it's really stupid thing to lie about, I hadn't asked for a picture, but it's just the needless lying. Why say it was from today when it wasn't? Just seems so bizarre?

shall I just discard? It's such early days I think that may be the way to go

‘Discard’

Is this the way we speak about human beings now?

I hate liars. Move on.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 26/09/2025 21:35

Casual lying seems to be the norm these days. It would put me off him completely, but it appears I’m in the minority. If you’re not going to dump him over it, then at least call him on it and see how he responds to that. Either he’ll be really embarrassed and apologetic and promise to not do it again, or he’ll try to make out it’s not a big deal. It’s up to you if you think it’s a big deal or not, it definitely would be for me.

Why did you ask him if it’s from today? Is it because you’re already feeling suspicious about his honesty?

Bobiverse · 26/09/2025 21:33

Chuck him back. Stupid pointless lies for absolutely no reason are a massive bug bear of mine though. I just can’t with that.

I have zero tolerance for lies. "White lies" are lies all the same. You give an inch, they will take a mile.
