Caught him in a small lie - discard?

So super low stakes but I don't know if I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.

been talking to a guy from OLD for a couple weeks, not met up yet but have messaged alot and had a few phone calls (not video calls)

he sent me a selfie earlier of him at the gym....except he already sent me the same selfie a few days ago.

I asked is that from today, and he said yes. But it can't be!

it's really stupid thing to lie about, I hadn't asked for a picture, but it's just the needless lying. Why say it was from today when it wasn't? Just seems so bizarre?

shall I just discard? It's such early days I think that may be the way to go

Ha yeah he is sending same pics and messages on repeat to loads of women. Being honest he probably took that pic about 7 years ago at the gym too and uses it as a 'lure'.

RoamingToaster · 15/12/2025 21:25

Any update OP?

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 26/09/2025 23:02

Is it possible he sent the original picture from the future?

I’m so curious to know how you knew it was the same picture, was there a tv screen with the news in the background or something?

Um, if someone hands you a photograph of someone and then hands you the exact same photograph again, you can tell it’s the same by looking at them. Really not all that challenging.

Same everything. Same clothes. Same pose if its a picture of him. Same things in the picture. Same exercise/ equipment.

NCF?

SheSaidHummingbird · 26/09/2025 22:16

I hate when guys send unsolicited selfies. Why? Life is busy, fun, stressful, chaotic - do you really have nothing better to do than take photos of yourself, browse them, choose one that you think is casual/ candid enough that it seems like you didn't take loads, and then send them out to your various contacts, and await approval and compliments? Really??

Big no

Have you ever used online dating? You really need to open your eyes to how the majority of men using OLD treat women.

Then you’d understand why we say discard and trash.

That’s how I met my husband.

And I still disagree with you. ‘We’ don’t all say those things.

RedLeicesterRedLeicester · 26/09/2025 22:11

I’d be suspicious he’s on a date he’s not telling you about and saying he’s at the gym

Bobiverse · 26/09/2025 22:09

GoodTimesNoodleSalad · 26/09/2025 21:46

I just think it’s vile. Just as ‘wading through trash’ is.

He’s chatting with so many people he’s lost track of who he has sent his gym selfie to and when - most people do this OLD til they meet someone and start a relationship.

100% this

twobabiesandapup · 26/09/2025 21:59

Sunflower459 · 26/09/2025 21:49

To be honest, the fact that it was a gym selfie would ick me anyway, but I know that’s a subjective thing.

Oh god yes and this for me too!

twobabiesandapup · 26/09/2025 21:58

I wouldn’t like this at all, it screams of “I can’t remember who I’ve sent what to because I’m sending so many people so many pictures”. Sorry OP I’d knock this one on the head… after I’d screenshotted the original picture and sent it back to him!

I agree with this. He's probably chatting to several people and forgot who he'd already sent it to.

Sunflower459 · 26/09/2025 21:47

I’d call it a day and I’d tell him why.

When it comes to online dating? Yes.

I met my now long term partner through OLD. But you have to wade through so much trash to find the good guys.

If he lies about little things he lies about big things. People are either liars or they are not.
And liars can't be trusted.

RuffledKestrel · 26/09/2025 21:40

Send him a screen shot of when he sent you it before. Watch the squirm then ditch him.

Walk.

White lies are never a good thing.

YumYa · 26/09/2025 21:37

Chuck him back. Probably not even recent.
